Always liked Kubota, but parts are killer expensive for them.

 

This job went from kickass to pushing rope quick. The good news is the job market is red hot, strike while the irons hot and upgrade. Eagle Scout that shit Noah!

 

T2, you’re at the age where i wished id roamed around for somewhere to settle down. Not really chasing a job, but a lifestyle. Tx is fine, the good stuff is illegal, but available. The scenery is great in spots, but the weather sucks. If i’d done some small town dishwashing gigs for passing through money, i coulda ended up somewhere nw of houston and traded temp extremes and rocks for humidity and mosquitos…nvm. I done good. I’d rather live in commy china instead of moving back to mosquitos.

 

Building off what Sir5 said, one of the two things I'd tell younger Chris, given the opportunity for a chat, is to move. I've seen 43 of our 50 states and I live in one I don't love. Worse than that, I live in a part of this state that I truly despise.

 

I’ve been to 40ish states. I wouldnt miss the oceans. Hell knock out my teeth and put me in a singlewide on the hills of NC.

but im stuck now. The hoard is too big to move. And i like having the clean part of a river nearby.

but, @Tundra2 whats the furthest you’ve ever driven from home that was off the clock?

grand canyon? Key west? Yellowstone? Niagra falls? Might notta stopped at road atlanta, but didja visit the georgia guidestones? Been to noah’s ark near you? Load up your gf and head to destinations, but dont be afraid to go out of the way for distractions.

i’ll recommend garden of the gods, and flaming gorge, and all of the gulf coast (winter trip).

the museums in the NE were interesting, but everywhere was crowded and expensive. I got to enjoy some mountain backroads in pa, and the people in virgingia were great, even the cops (since i was sleeping at an abandoned grocery store, charging my phone, and had lost my paper tags).

There's no better way to see this big, beautiful country than by car.
Set a destination and sail away. You'll see so much stuff along the way.

My nice house, nice truck, sports car, income, wife's income, etc don't make up for the fact that I wake up every day disappointed that I live 20 minutes from Indy.

 

been to the indy car museum? Im really looking forward to a trip to the daytona museum.

 

I parked there last year when we went to the track to buy a car for a friend's customer. I've somehow managed to never get inside the place tho.

 

When i get up there, you’re driving me there in the porsche.

 

So the 285/75/17 (33.8) are making me miss the 275/70/17's (32.2-4) a bit. I lost my quickness and braking suffers some. If I was buying tires today, I think I would split the difference with 33X10.5 for a go.

On the upside - they are rad tires. and they are bigger. The frame lock rub is bugging me although I know where it's going to touch based on the steering wheel. I haven't cut or hammered anything up around the wheels yet because of limited time this week and I haven't rubbed anything body.

I really wanted to try some 1" Bora spacers, but I can't get those anytime soon. So I'm going to test some 1.25" Spidertrax - see if that takes care of frame rub and just how much body rub that brings. I think I'll be able to do some work Sunday...Maybe just raising the front depending on if the spacers show up. Maybe some utility blade, cut off and hammer work...hmmm

Spacers will get the tires off the frame, but it'll put it much closer to the body/bumper as your scrub radius climbs.

 

I'm on 33x10.5x16 (255/85r16 33's) with 1.25" spidertrax and don't rub at all.

 

Yup, seems like the trade off. But, trimming and bashing is OK if that gets me some freedom.

 

Does that put your tread under the flares? ever up travel and bash there?

 

Barely any rubbing for me on 285/70/17. A proper alignment helped a lot. I rub even less after this last alignment than I did when I first got these tires in 2019. I only rub in reverse and not enough to bother me.

 

I'm sitting at +4 caster, the other numbers are in the middle of the range. I do have an 8.5 wheel at 0mm offset. I think my rub is very minor, but with big lugs on the tires, feels like bump bump bump bump

Ah, s man, and you are 4.88 so that means 32.4 for me may feel slow? But then again I am slow so maybe a good match?

No 4.88 and 32.4 is very quick. The 33.8 at 4.88 feels stock.

 

Yeah, that's where I'm stressin' now. Your 4.88's are 7% lower than mine so if we scale down 32.4 by 7% wussier gears we get 30.2 as equivalent for my truck? Which is stock size, yeah? Or if we go 33.8 and scale down by 7% we get 31.6 ish which is way smaller than 32.4.

Maybe I should be doing the math on circumference rather than diameter though? Since that's what matters for each revolution. I bet that's probably where I'm going off the rails?

Actually, if we just multiply by pi and divide it out, it's irrelevant, or in other words diameter is proportional to circumference so either way works.

Maybe it's less than 7% difference? But 4.88 to 4.56 feels like at least a 7% jump.

 

It all seems like a range. I had those 32.4s with stock gears and it was fine, a bit slower off the line. Added 4.88 and got a race car feel. Jumped to 33.8 and back to where I was with 32.4 and stock gears. That's why I suspect a 33" would be a nice middle ground. But both ends work, they are just different.

 

You guys are over thinking tires way to much!! The answer is always 35’s!
