    Hello All,

I am looking at buying a TT, 1st time tower. I believe I have run all the numbers correctly but wanted some guidance from people who have towed before to see if I am missing anything. The TT is a 2018 Grey Wolf 26 DBH, total length is 31' 7" . I have a 2013 TRD PRO Limited Crewmax Tundra.
    Curb Weight is 5625
    GVWR is 7200
    GCWR is 16000
    Tongue is 1010
    TT Dry is 5795
    TT GVWR is 7725
    TT Tongue is 725
TT Paylaod 450 Assumption of cargo, propane and battery.
Truck Payload 700 Assumption of cargo, people and WD hitch.

So if i take my curb weight of 5625 + Tongue 725 +truck payload 700=7050 under the 7200GVWR
Then GVWR of 7050 + TT of 5625 and 450=6245 +7050 = 13295 which brings me under the 16000 GCWR

Does this seem reasonable? Has anyone towed something similar? What I can I expect twoing something like this? Any and all thoughts, ideas, guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Your payload assumption seems low. For example you aren't figuring in the weight of all holding tanks when full. that can easily add another 6 or 700 pounds depending on the size of your fresh, black, and grey water tanks. You also stated a tongue of 725 whereas the TT tongue is 1010. if you add a 1010 tongue to assumed truck payload of 700 you are already over your payload limit of 1575. If the tongue is really 725, then you are just pushing the limit.

Thanks for the reply bobeast. I left the holding tanks empty because I do not plan on towing with them full or actually anything in them. Not doing any sort of camping where there wont be hook ups. Should I do the math assuming the tanks are full to be on the safe side? Also the tongue weight for the TT is 725 and the max tongue weight for the truck is 1010.

ah. ok. Yeah. So you're under the capacities as stated. That said, a couple of points. First of all manufacturer numbers are often...I think the technical term is...BS. I'd poke around on some TT specific forums and see if anyone has actually weighed that model out here in the real world. Most are surprised to find that these back of the napkin exercises aren't worth the paper you wiped your mouth on (see what I did there?)

Second, I've always been a proponent of planning for worse case. Wouldn't it suck, for example to go on a long trip and find you can't get a hookup because all the developed sites are full? Setup your rig so you can boondock if necessary and you'll be able to go anywhere.

Take TV tow capacity -7725=max cargo in the truck. (everything and everyone.) 7725-5795=max cargo in tt. Never exceed this limit or you can damage the axles. The more weight you drop from here..the more you can have in the truck up to the max combined weight.

I would just figure in the weight of the fresh water tank alone. Because, as you are using the fresh water it is either going into your gray or black tank. So when you leave the campground your fresh water tank may be empty, but is divided into your gray or black tank. Hope that makes sense... But most campgrounds at least have a dump station to dump your gray and black tanks, unless you are boon docking somewhere and have to dump later somewhere else.

Since most camp grounds provide water and electric hook up most don't fill the fresh water tank..that's about 300 lb you can free up. For boot camping you gonna need it.

Ah good point. That hadn't occurred to me.

You should definitely have, use, setup the appropriate weight distribution hitch.

Yes. I am planning on using an E2 WDH with Sway Control rated up to 10,000lbs and 1000 lbs tongue Also installing a Prodigy 3 break controller.

Old Man Emu suspension. Brute Force Fab front bumper, rear dual high clearance rear bumper, sliders and headache rack.
We just bought a '17 Limited that I am researching for an overlanding/backcountry rig. Weight is an issue as the Tundra's payload capacity isn't that great. So, yesterday, I took it to the scales and weighed it with me in it (175lbs) and a full tank of gas (minues the 7 miles to the scales) and the truck came in at 5,900lbs. So, that curb weight of 5,625lbs is low. I would bet a real world weigh of your trailer will be much the same......that is to say.....not even close.
