Hello all, long time (30+ year) toyota truck/tacoma owner/tinkerer, first Tundra.

Picked up an 07 TRDOR/Limited 4x4 recently. Truck is low mile (127k) and came with a whole folder of dealer service records from date of purchase.
Is in pretty good shape save for blown clear on the roof, bad belt moldings (already ordered) and yellowed headlights (giving the Cerakote stuff a try on those).

Looking for a couple of things and running into dead ends.
I would love to modernize the look of this thing a bit by getting rid of the chrome.
Trying to find color matched grille surround, door handles, mirror caps and blackout emblems. A lot of the chrome bits are starting to delaminate, especially the grille.

Most of what I have found is either OEM parts for 2.5 gens or is ebay/china. Anybody have a source for this stuff for the early 2nd gens or am I just kinda out of luck?

Also, what are the problem areas on these trucks? I know many/most of the issues with pre-tacoma and 1st/2nd gen Tacomas but know little about these big guys.

    Thanks in advance.

Amazon has black badges that I swapped out. It's easy and cheap to Plastidip the chrome bumpers. Many of us have replaced the grille; there's a couple of threads on it.

Might be better to replace the headlights; I've heard that repairs are temporary because the protective coating has worn off.

The 3M kit I used on my Tacoma has held up pretty well. They were retrofits so buying new wasn’t a viable option.

Curious to see how the Cerakote holds up, currently drying. Looks good so far.

    Before and after shots.

You can get good results with just a rubbing compound, but it removes the coating and they fade pretty quick. I just repeat after every wash.

    Welcome, from Wisconsin.

Get original stuff from a Toyota parts dealer for the best quality. Like McGeorge , Cool Springs Toyota or other online toyota parts stores

As far as headlight fading and yellowing,
I've used this and had pretty good success.
The thing that makes it last is the UV coating.
I was able to do 3 trucks with 1 kit, and its still not empty.

Any of you guys own an early limited?
It has power folding mirrors but when I go to fold them in, only the passenger side folds. Driver’s side does nothing.

Are both mirrors supposed to fold or just passenger?

If they are both supposed to, I would love to fix that, docking this wide bitch in my garage sure would be easier.

Belt moldings showed up and I found this guy on ebay at a salvage yard.
1F9 (slate metallic) grille off an 07. Always sketched about buying body parts over the internet. But it looks to be in decent shape, albeit dirty. Gonna hose it off and see what I have to work with. If nothing else, it looks to be a good candidate for getting repainted, I am considering having the roof re shot anyway.

Found two more issues I would like to resolve. Truck originally had a JBL system in it, it has had at least two aftermarket head units and amps over the years. Current one (rather nice Alpine) was installed last year. Problem is, the factory sub doesn't seem to be working. Can the OEM sub be powered by a conventional amp or is it some funky proprietary unit?
(JBL and Bose systems can be some times).

When I put the truck in drive, all 4 doors lock, when I put it in park, all 4 unlock. Is this normal behavior for Tundras? If so, how do I make it not do that? Because it is really annoying and kinda unsafe (noticed it when I was hitting the drive thru of my favorite burrito spot that is in a not so nice hood) . Truck apparently had a dealer pre-installed alarm system that was removed upon request by the PO before he took delivery of the truck and I just have the standard issue Toyota keyfobs.

    1 or 2... I lost count
Welcome! Can't help with the JBL system, but, the door locks is normal behavior. If I remember correctly, it can be configured by the dealer with techstream to be, when you shift, when you hit 15mph (this is how mine behaves, you shift to drive and the doors lock when you hit 15mph and stay locked until you shift back to park), or I think it can be turned off.

    Thanks!
Was hoping it was some artifact of the aftermarket system that may or may not have been fully uninstalled or it was something that could be turned on/off with some button sequence (like the seatbelt beeper in my Tacoma).

Well, sadly the grille was a bust. The dust/dirt was hiding a lot of damage, many broken clips, frame is bent and it looks like it got battery acid on the insert at some point. And to add to the fun, just about every bolt on my existing grille is rusted and spun out, looks like I am going to have to destroy it to get it off. Just gonna bite the bullet and order a new one.

Belt moldings went in without a hitch.

Off would be the preferred setting. I am pretty habituated to locking my own doors when I drive and I for sure do not need them unlocking for me whenever I park.

There is a thread with all the info for this Sequioa TRD grill.
Also another thread on a color matched grill.
Search a page or 2 back on the main 2nd gen area.

It is a good look for sure.
Was looking at that and the Alibaba TRD Pro grille insert (I might be able to salvage the shell from the color matched one I got off ebay).
I did go ahead and order a complete, color matched grille from Sparks, waiting to see if they can actually find one (as of now not in stock and no ETA, we shall see). Kind of not trying to make this truck into too much of a project, just trying to clean it up some. A fist sized chunk of the chrome on the factory grille has separated and makes an otherwise pretty clean truck look like ass.
Already have 4 other project cars/trucks all conspiring to keep me broke.

In case anybody has an older limited and wants to change them, the door lock/unlock settings can be changed in the information center in the cluster under “setup US/M”. No Techstream or dealer visit necessary.
Who knew that manuals were so informative.. :D

Congrats on the 07 Limited. Your thread poses questions on several issues I have dealt with over the years. Here’s a few:

My chrome grill started peeling too so I ordered a black oem. If you’re doing the order online I think I had to choose the rock warrior option(?) to get to the colors but don’t remember specifically.

    634946D4-C327-402C-8A3D-4FED64C0EC5C.jpg
    C1196EF1-56E7-4097-91B5-D2489A11216A.jpg

    Replacement was super easy.

On the side mirrors, my driver’s side would not retract either and was a little floppy. Repairing the motor assembly looked like an unholy nightmare so I was just going to replace the one mirror, but replacement on the oem folding mirror for the limited was almost $700. I decided to replace both with oem towing mirrors. They manually fold and it required quite a project to wire it so the running lights would work (Toyota didn’t run a wire to the harness for running lights on the limited and platinum trim lines), but I enjoy the much greater visibility and was able to get 2 new oem mirrors for around $350. The re-wire project for the running lights is on another thread on this site.

I recently discovered where mice were getting into the cabin and pooping on the cabin filter. Super disgusting and could not stand. I covered those openings with 1/4” wire mesh. Also on another thread on this site.

You might also want to look at catalytic converter skid plates since the tundra has 4 cats and appears to be a desirable target for the cretins involved in this particular criminal activity. I went with desert eagle mid point plate and a Valhalla’s shield to cover the rear cats. It’s all pretty straightforward but it could be a little intimidating at first because some fitaments require cutting slots into the steel plates. There’s lots of threads re: catalytic converter plates on this site.

Bottom line is this site contains a wealth of information and is always the first place I look when I have an issue or want to do something. Welcome and good luck!

FYI this is only an option for those with a limited, or more specificly, the optitron cluster. Installing an optitron cluster in an SR5 will "unlock" these settings too.

Brand shiny new OEM grille showed up this morning thanks to Sparks (no thanks to Fedex...).
I believe this is a Rock Warrior grille. Was surprised to see it include the emblem, gasket and the guide pins (that I forgot to check to see if I needed to order). I did order new nuts as well.
Now for the fun part, trying to figure out how to get the chrome one off. 8-10 of the nuts spun when I went to try to take it off, this should be fun. At least I can be a bit destructive if needed, it is not going back on.

    IMG_0303.jpg

In regards to the folding mirrors, I have found that the driver's side one will manually fold if I push the button (passenger side works fine). Good enough for now, there are some used ones on Ebay, I will probably revisit it later. I do want the power folding thing to work.

Thanks for the heads up on the fresh air intake. I had no idea Tundras had the same issue (did the hardware cloth thing on the air intake on my tacoma). Rats are a real problem around here, had some very expensive rat damage repairs prior to building my garage. Fortunately the truck lives inside.

As a Tacoma owner in an area full of meth enthusiasts, I am well aware of the cat theft issue. Probably going to opt for a skidplate if I can find one that covers the cats as I probably will wheel this truck.

you might need some brackets to mount a rock warrior grille to an 07 though. search the forum. It has been posted in the past.

    Thanks.
Was under the impression that was only to do the conversion to the later model grille.
This one looks identical to the one that is on the truck, just not chrome.
Hits all the mounting points right and the top trim fits (haven’t tightened it all the way down yet, trying to find my anti seize).

FWIW, it was fun getting the old one off. Managed to do it without utterly destroying the old one. Having the junkyard one here as a off the truck reference helped. Was able to use a plastic pry tool, some plastic wedges and a screwdriver to get the shell off and then a pair of vice grips to hold the "bolts" to spin the nuts off. Two just snapped instantly.
Tip: If you ever do this, put something in the hood latch before you take the underhood release off. I dropped the hood with the grille half off, thank God I put a screwdriver in there or I would have been pretty locked out.

Feeling the old scope creep setting in on this thing.
