Anywhere to buy grill insert shell only?

I have a modernized TRD insert for my 2012 TRD Tundra, however I want to just switch out the chrome surrounding shell. Online I can only find both the shell and insert sold together.

 

I have a Gloss black one that has the center cut out from when I was going to put mesh in it. I no longer have a 2nd gen so it was never installed.

I did this on my truck. You need a white or black non textured grill. Chrome won’t last.

Spend the money with a GOOD body shop. Mine peeled off after a month. When I tried to dismantle the grill to get repainted it cracked. 300+ bucks down the drain…….

 

If you zoom in on this photo you can see how shitty the body shop did on it. Loved the look, hated the work.

 

yea the body shop I went to told me he wouldn’t paint over the chrome bc it wouldn’t last. Recommended buying a new non chrome grille and getting that painted.

Now I can see why, although some have rattle can jobs that they say have held up well enough over the chrome

 

Pictures would be great, is the grill insert cut out or just removed? my TRD insert will require the clips/mounts. Thanks!

 

I am definitely looking for Black, I really don't like any chrome at all.

The center piece of the insert is cut out. The outer ring of it is clipped in. You can remove that and snap your insert in.
