With all the new gen issues arising, is anyone locking down the Toyota Factory Extended warranties? If so, what is everyone seeing as the going rates? These factory extended warranties seem to be some of the final negotiations that occur after locking up a new deal/price on the purchase.

I wanted one, but best my dealer would offer was 2800. I will call some other dealers.

I purchased the Toyota Extra Care Platinum, with Zero deductible, eight years, 100,000 miles for $1,255. Since Jerry (a salesman at a Toyota dealership) and I are both in Kansas, I had to pay $107 in Kansas sales tax.

The dealer I purchased my truck from could not touch Jerry's price.

For your information, had I gone to 10 years and 125,000 miles, the price jumped to $2,070 before tax. The ten-year 100K seemed like the sweet spot for price and coverage.

Glad you got a good deal.
Did you get the whole list of options?
    Could you share via PM?

Just want to see how much it has gone up when I purchased mine.

    Thanks

You can cancel it within the first 30 days and receive a full refund minus a $50 processing fee, after that you can cancel it and receive a pro-rated amount back based on time/warranty claims (which would still be almost 100% of the initial cost). Just call your finance guy, they may give you the run around because they’ll get a chargeback on their commission but don’t let them bs you, they have to cancel it if you ask them. It’s super easy and only takes them a minute. If you financed the warranty the refund will be applied to your principal balance.

2nd On a waitlist for a platinum. Would like to get an extended warranty. Do you have to get it on the spot when you purchase your tundra? Are there places you can shop around for lower warranties?

A lot of finance managers will try to make it seem like you have to do it on the spot but that’s not the case. You have a lot of time to purchase it. If you want to finance the warranty then, yes, you have to get it when you finance the vehicle. If you’re paying cash for the warranty you have tons of time, for Toyota I believe it’s within the first 3 years or 36k miles (someone correct me if I’m wrong).

Do some google searching and you’ll find some very reputable finance sources online that sell these warranties at cost. I cannot post the information here but if you can’t find it, PM me and I’ll point you in the right direction.

As you can see, service contracts are a high-profit area for the dealers. @AZTundra gave me the contact information for the dealer where I ultimately bought my Service contract. I am also happy to PM anyone if they are shopping for a service contract.

I even offered my selling dealer a chance to meet the price I received. He took the quote to his manager and said that it was lower than their cost.

The finance person I worked with said that it was 'illegal' and Toyota has cracked down on this type of selling. In the next breath, he advised me to buy the warranty at that price from the person who provided the quote. No need to ask me twice!

I always considered purchasing at the time of vehicle purchase, I guess assuming it was the best time and you’d get the best leverage with that transaction. I didn’t really know some dealerships where in the business of selling warranties, great to know!

That's awesome! My fear and desire for the extended warranty is the way unproven (but loved) electronics on the truck!

    Hi there,
Just thought I'd share my experience on extended warranty. Summary is: SHOP AROUND!
I was waitlisted 5 months with little hope of my desired Tundra on the horizon when I happened to stop by the dealership to schmooze and there was a red Limited sitting on the showroom floor. Apparently a couple hours earlier, the guy that had been waiting 5 months for this truck turned it down. When I got back from test driving it there were three other buyers waiting checkbook in hand! Red was not on my preferred list, but my wife liked it so I said let's do it!
Anywhoo, we doing the deal and of course the finance guy is doing his thing on ext warranty - which I have never bought on any previous vehicle. But this is a first model year and with all the electronics, turbos, etc.... seemed like a decent bet. The guy offered 10/100 or 7/125 for the same price... $3,600. But when I balked he quickly dropped $1K "in light of my loyalty." right. I asked him point blank whether I could buy this warranty later and he said NO - (turns out he lied to our face.) But I did not know that at the time and in the heat of the moment I signed the deal.
After I got home I did some checking and found that you can buy this warranty at any time up to 3yr/36K from any dealer in your state! I called another dealer and confirmed this was true, and while I was at it got a quote from them and it was $2,195 for the same contract...$400 less. And they were willing to sell it over the phone!
Needless to say I emailed my dealership and told them to cancel the contract. The guy did at I asked and sent me an attached receipt that showed my refund of 2,600 as the total refund... but it also listed a "dealer refund" of $1,175.
My interpretation is that the dealer bought this ext warranty from Toyota for $1,175 and was pocketing the entire difference. I support businesses making some profit, BUT...wow.
Anyway, I think this explains the wide range of pricing of these warranties. Please do your homework before purchasing!
For now I have decided not to buy any ext warranty and will see how this goes the first couple of years. Right now I am thinking I may only keep the truck a short while as I really regret not getting the crewmax.... and I'm not sure I can get used to this red!! ;)
    Cheers

Ok I totally got screwed then on my extended warranty, I financed it with the loan and paid upwards of 5k for 0 deductible, full coverage, 5yr plan. I thought at the time it was worth it, but after reading the prices you all have paid I feel like a fool. I know I can cancel and get reimbursed, but damn.

Toyota allows the purchase of the Platinum warranty up until the basic 36K mile warranty expires. What are the advantages/disadvantages of waiting until you are near the end of the basic warranty to purchase the platinum warranty?

In this day in age INFLATION is a reason to buy early. Prices generally never go down.
