Most pumps have a sticker indicating the % of ethanol. At least in South Carolina

Some QT gas stations sell non ethanol gas. Indicated by a red pump. I always use ethanol free for my lawnmower to keep the carb happy

Will those pump stickers be updated as the new gas comes in? Especially at high volume places like Costco? Fortunately my 2020 SR5 5.7 says I can use E15 safely, I don't know that my 35 year old race car can...

This is another unfortunate case of the taxpayer subsidizing oil corporation profits.

I used the pure-gas.org app to keep tabs on where to get ethanol free gas for the 70 SB El Camino that I used to have. I also use it when I travel on my motorcycle although that is rated for E10.

Not saying I am pro ethanol, but E10 vs. E15 won't make a bit of difference in any modern vehicle.

More broadly, if fuel cost is your concern, you should never have bought a full size truck then turned it into a bro dozer that gets 11 MPG. Anyone going broke at the pump right now and also rolling around in a gas guzzler on 37s should have bigger concerns in their life.

So we have used E15 quite a bit in our house. Never in small engines. Between a Sequoia and a Tundra we have hand calculated mileage quite a few times.

We have never lost mileage in using E15 vs E10. Around here the price difference is not much, normally 5 to 6 cents a gallon cheaper for E15.

    E15 runs 88 octane E10 87 octane.

Now the people wondering about food chain issues. A by product of ethanol production is either a wet or dry distillers grain and syrup. Cattle, chicken and hogs all love Distillers grain and the syrup. Both products are added to regular feed or lower quality feed to get the animals to eat.

This also creates more trucking and brokering jobs, and an entire industry on its own. Distillers grain is even shipped over seas for feed additives.

So yes producing ethanol is not as efficient as regular Dino fuel, but when was the last refinery built. where as its pretty easy comparatively to build ethanol plants for a fuel additive.

I too live in Iowa and like my spark plugs way too much to try e85. I use 89 with ethanol and have been using it as long as I’ve been driving. Farm roots here too, but fine without e85.

I doubt many will see a mileage difference. It takes a lot of alcohol before it starts really going down. The way the Tundra pulls timing like crazy below 2000 rpm on regular fuel it may be an even wash. The ethanol has a very high knock resistance. Heck my first tank of E85 this year was a 17 gallon fill (truck has 26 gal tank), probably still 60% alcohol from the pump so figure 40% in the fuel tank after mixing, and that tank averaged 13.9 mpg even with the italian tune ups to burn out the winter carbon.

Might not want to run that engine oil to 10k/1y though when burning E15.

With all this E crap! Is anyone running a fuel additive on a regular basis? (Like every fill up) To clean fuel ejection etc. I have seen a lot but is the additive snake oil and really serves no purpose.

I will happily run E-15 (88 oct) in my 4.6L. I actually see a slight increase in fuel economy.

So I watched the news when this was announced. Said it was going to be authorized during the summer months during summer gasoline season basically. Hmmm. Wonder why in the hotter months we are gonna put lighter molecules in the blend that evaporate and try to sell it like you are helping someone out. And like already mentioned the energy release during combustion sucks so your mpg go down. Ridiculous.

I started using E85 recently for cost reasons.. 1 tank and already my check engine light came on and my traction control will not come back online.. Probably nothing but its a little suspicious that its already messing with the electronics..

    Anybody else having this issue?

Poor quality fuel can throw the check engine light (MIL) but it won't have anything to do with your traction control. Really hope this is a joke but it's hard to tell in text....

Ok, well the traction control has nothing to do with the fuel. Unrelated issues. Try running a couple of tanks of non ethanol (yes it's expensive) and see if the MIL clears. I had truck that hated diesel from a specific station. Once I ran a tank of better fuel it all cleared up.

The truck has burned about 20 tanks of it in the last year or so without so much as a hiccup. Not for the environment, it's not a positive return with corn. I'm just addicted to the added torque.

You have confirmed the truck is a FFV? The only ways I know of are the VIN, gas cap, and sale sticker on the '14-up. The '07-'13 models also had a fancy emblem on the tailgate.

There's also the engine designation of 3UR-FBE for the FFV versus 3UR-FE for the non-FFV. I believe that there is a decal under the hood somewhere. FFVs weren't available in 07-08, just 09+.

At least half of my tank at any given time is pure gas. Even if I get E15 for the other half, which I will try to avoid, I’d still be okay at E7.5.

I've been using E15 88 octane off and on over the last year, can be anywhere from 10 to 40 cents cheaper a gallon from 87 octane. No appreciable difference in MPG from E10 87 octane, the ridiculous wind gusts are the major factor in my mileage variances around here. My owner's manual and gas cap say E15 is acceptable.

Maybe it's psychological, but I feel like I hear less pinging under low rpm, light acceleration that is common with this engine.
