I would say no there’s plenty of documented Toyota tundras with over 400,000 miles

3rd million miler Tundra, this one with the 5.7
700k 5.7 truck same guy as first million miler
Last four links are YouTube videos...more high mileage Tundras in the comments.

TL, DR; it's not extremely rare to see high mileage Tundras. The ONE THING Tundra owners don't exaggerate is long term dependability. There is absolutely nothing special about the 3 million-milers or the trucks at 400/500/600k. Just do the maintenance. If you drive enough, you could get there, too.

so here’s individual trucks to defend against me saying the 5.7 has become mythical since the 22 was released. Toyota sold what almost 1.8 million Gen 2s? Yet you’re claiming superiority over the 22 without a sample set and anecdotal evidence at best. Are there 5.7s as reliable as you claim? Yes, but that’s not the norm statistically. 500 and 600k are white buffalos and most owners will never see it without major repair. I’m excited for my truck and pissed off everytime a Gen 2 owner is here claiming unicorn and doom for QC while claiming theirs is perfect.

I am pretty certain there’s more than a few domestic 3/4 and 1 tons that have made the 1 million mile mark, particularly the Dodge/Cummins combo pre-emissions idiocy.

My question was how many 2007+ domestics have done it since we're talking about the 2nd Gen Tundra.

THIS is a claim with no evidence or support. Where are all the 200k and 300k 2nd gen trucks that have had or are in need of “major repair”? What is this big repair that everyone just knows most Tundras will need to make it past 300k and beyond? There are a ton of them on the road still, and they still command a pretty high price for 300k miles. The reason most 2nd gen owners don’t see 500k+ is that they don’t drive enough miles before selling the truck. It’s the longest lived half ton, period end of story, and there is—again—NOTHING unique about the trucks that clock that high or higher. Every single owner will tell you the secret is only BASIC maintenance. Not “well I rebuilt the entire engine at 150k and 300k” or “yeah it’ll keep going as long as I keep feeding it transmissons lol.”

I would have assumed that this heritage of dependability and extremely high miles is at least part of why you chose to order a Tundra yourself. Will your 3rd gen be capable of that? Who knows. Isn’t proven yet. It’s a LOT more complicated which your average Toyota enthusiast probably isn’t exactly thrilled about.

But I would argue it's still more likely to go 300k miles+ without major repairs than any of the domestic halftons, based both on Toyota's pedigree and the other trucks that are available on the market right now.

link above shows 4% to 200000+ So more evidence than you’ve provided.

yes Toyotas are reliable but 96% of you aren’t seeing 300k yet alone the 400k-600k you claim.

That number was pulled from looking at mileages of vehicles available for sale in 2019. 2.9% of Tundras available for sale in 2019 had 200k miles or higher on them. That's the only conclusion you can draw. Not that they only had 200k. Not that they're only good for 200k. It's not a rigorous study into the longevity of vehicle drivetrains by any means. Look at the other Toyota 4.7 and 5.7 platforms (LC, Sequoia). They made the list, too.

The error you're making in interpreting that data is that you're inferring that 200k is all those trucks are good for. There is no basis for this. Where are these mythical repairs that 200k and 300k Tundras need to keep going??? All the links I provided show basic maintenance. It's not like an older Cummins that is too strong for its own transmission and it eats them for lunch.

The error I’m making is a dataset of 14mm cars sold but your hand full of one off examples is empirical proof and in no way exaggerating? Cool. Wish you all the best with that.

Haha. Yes, that study was of 15.8M cars available for sale. How many Tundras do you think that includes? 25k? It doesn't matter because that data set doesn't support the conclusion you took from it anyway.

My data set is the set that actually made it. If you want to make a claim like "they can't go past 300k without expensive repairs" like you made, you have to look at the set of trucks that are past that mileage and what they have needed to reach it. Not the set of trucks that haven't been driven enough. And of that high high high mileage set, virtually none have needed expensive repairs (one of the million milers lost reverse, and another million miler lost 3rd gear). Basic maintenance only. They weren't babied. They weren't driven empty. Nothing special about those trucks. Conclusion: your 2nd gen can do it too, if you drive it enough and maintain it. Any major repair needed is largely mythical (as you put it).

Hope the 3rd gen continues that legacy. I'm out. :hattip:

If a 600k truck is what’s most important to you why you on a Gen 3 forum putting them down when you won’t even need one?

Maybe because they haven't gotten there yet? Your stats seem good but math ... not so much. Let's go with the lowest number thrown around here, 200,000 miles. If you drive 15,000 miles a year (average to a LOT for many people) we're talking it taking over 13 years to get there. So that's almost 27 years to reach 400,000 for a vast majority of people (quite possibly the 96% number you keep babbling about). So now we're already well past the amount of time most people keep the same vehicle. Hell, were well outside years the Tundra even existed and I didn't even go to your highest mileage figures. How many people drive that many miles? VERY few. How many high mileage vehilces on the road? VERY few. Hmmmmm. LOL!

You’re correct. But this started as tender claimed the 5.7 is proven to go 500 or 600k regularly. I called him on the exaggerations the gen2 trolls use to put down the 22’s. We don’t know either but let people enjoy their trucks on a gen 3 forum.

Well yeah but hey, this is an Internet forum. Reading comprehension is rarely practiced on these things, especially when vehicles are the topic. You'll break most of your fingers before getting a point across to a mob like this, especially a fine point. Didn't you see Lord of the Flies? There are no rules or logic here!

Who knows? Maybe a few, maybe none.

On any given day I’ll be driven around in a Suburban or Expedition with 400,000 to 500,000 miles on the clock. They see a ton of idle time on top of the miles, and are not maintained particularly well.
