Meh. The 2007-2021 standard stamped steel skid plate doesn’t hold up to much punishment, and weighs more. Good riddance.

At least this one won’t be as cumbersome to take off and replace.

His thoughts on the standard engine vs the hybrid are interesting and confirm my earlier predictions:

1.) The standard iForce 3.4L TTV6 is filling the shoes of the 1UR-FE 4.6L V8 as a base engine.

2.) The optional iForce Max 3.4L TTV6 Hybrid is the true replacement for the 3UR-FE 5.7L V8.

The detuned SR variant of the iForce TTV6 would, to me, be the replacement for the 4.6L V8 base. All other trim variants iForce TTV6 would be the direct 5.7L replacement. I'd say that the iForce Max would be the equivalent of a supercharged 5.7L V8. That being said, I've never seen/driven/etc. the iForce Max. But, having had the 5.7L and now the 3.4L on my Limited, the 3.4L has more power.

    That's what I was thinking. I wish my 5.7 made over 500 ft-lbs at 2400 rpm.

The SR poverty spec variant is the new 4.0L V6 that no one bought back in the day, and no one is gonna buy today.

SR is de-tuned but not THAT de-tuned haha. I'd be plenty happy with the SR spec power levels, I'm not trying to win races or tow heavy loads though

If it were up to me, the SR would have 6 vinyl seats, vinyl flooring, a column shifter, the workhorse iForce Max, a respectable kW generator with bed outlet, and a heavy duty payload package.

This would be my offering to the American work force, since I absolutely refuse to enter the HD market. And I'd sell every single one I could make. :frusty:

If they put features people want in the lower trim levels, they wouldn't make as much money. The big 3 have been employing this strategy for years.

Yeah but my SR would have a tiny screen and no seat heaters, bsm, premium sound, or cool wheels. I’d actually build a workhorse that has the GVWR and payload numbers to back up its capability.

    4 thing I hafta say:

    1. The transition near the beginning was pretty cool
    2. The window trim piece gap was pretty funny
    3. I wanted to hear more truck/off road noises
    4. because it was drowned out by the awful music (I do admit, it was pretty awful)
    5. They go too far to keep these trucks clean while shooting them. The army green one went through a huge mud hole and was pristine! The white TRD Pro had no sand stuck to its side. We want to see them dirty!

Haha. Wouldn't put too much into the "The Hybrid is the true replacement for the V8" crowd. Suddenly the 5.7 has developed mystical powers since it passed.

If by mystical powers, you mean the ability to go 400-, 500-, 600k+ miles on routine maintenance while being used above its stated ratings, then I agree.

That’s its one advantage compared to the rest of the half-ton world. If you are looking to stay put with a truck for 10 years and value your time more than your gas bill, it’s your best choice by far. By all other metrics, it lags the competition. But the one place where it excels is most important to me. Hopefully in time, it will become apparent that the 3rd gen will continue that tradition.

If y’all intend on keeping your truck for 600k miles why you so butthurt about the changes? By mystical I mean suddenly it’s comparable to a vehicle with much more power and torque. It somehow magically wasn’t the most outdated truck in the market or was even selling well without massive discounts. The power of a truck that was only resold to existing tundra owners who like a ram with a bit of hair lip But they last for 1 billion miles so why would they build you a new truck?

I’m not butthurt about the changes. I wish the new Tundra had payload comparable to half ton Ford and GM crew cab 4x4 trucks that are each over 2k lbs. That’s my one big gripe with the new Tundra. But it’s a gripe I have with my truck, too.

My truck's superpower that I mentioned before is a direct result of it being an old design. For me, the fact that it's a dinosaur is a feature, not a bug. Hopefully, by the time I'm ready to buy another truck, the iForce Max will have proven itself.

And the Tundra had the smallest discounts in the segment, not the largest.

According to Tim in the video, the big 3 payloads are not any better than the Tundra's unless you are looking at the Maverick.

Is that anecdotal like the 600,000 miles? Or real only based in made up mystical world that you couldn’t in fact get a tundra for less than most other comparable model trucks? Tell me what percentage of Gen 2’s made it to 500,000 or 600,000 miles? Even 400k is fine. But no fabrications right?

That question is probably why your new member do some research. There is plenty out there on the first and second GEN Tundras or Toyota for that matter.

i have and know both are exaggerated. Like towing capacity. That’s my point. He called out my comment on gen2 becoming mythical and follows up with 3 examples of how it’s done.
