What Annoys You About Your Truck?

It annoyed me that I didn't have cruise control or intermittent wipers, but they were easy to add and quickly addressed. It annoyed me to have to reach all the way across the truck to lock or unlock the passenger door. That wasn't all that easy to address, but it's fixed now. It annoys me that I can't adjust the bench seat. I used the seat jackers to tilt it back and some washers under the rear mounts to remove a little bit of the extra tilt. Now I need to pull the washers out and take the corresponding amount of lift off of the seat jackers to lower the whole thing a little bit while keeping the angle like it is now.

 

All the same stuff. Rattles annoy me. Dash rattles and window rattles. The door check is annoying. The rear seats folding the wrong way is annoying. Great truck though. Love the powertrain. I wish the rest was as tight as my T-100 was.

 

What annoys me is that I can't buy the same truck new right now. I'd love to buy a new first gen with the exact same quality and parts from back in 2004.

 

And I like to buy a 1972 Chevy Cheyenne 3/4 ton, with a 4 speed, new today. I had one once and that was a very simple, capable truck. With a BB 402, it was a torque monster, and I could repair and maintain it easily. Since I'm dreaming now, I may as well put a BMW r75/5 and a Suzuki GT550 in the 96 inch long bed as well.

 

Yeah, I’m a tiny bit annoyed I can’t buy a v8 RC QS 4x4 Toyota truck with 8’ bed. But that annoyance is offset by having one which is as close as I can get for now. I could always paint it in 20 years.

 

Not really an annoyance against the Tundra, but coming from other older trucks that don't make you push down further on the E-Brake to release it, I've finally stopped popping the hood to release it.

My dad used his, in his automatic, so much the light burnt out or the switch wore out under warranty with his 1st gen Tacoma DC

 

Only thing that annoys me is that I haven't paid the truck off. But that's coming.

In all my years of owning an automatic truck, I've used the e-brake in my trucks exactly zero times thinking that it really didn't matter. But in hindsight, just keeping the parts in motion seems to be the smart move for keeping thinks working properly. I use this same philosophy on my knees as well.

 

If you read the manual in your 2019 I think somewhere in there it says you are supposed to set the parking brake anytime you exit the vehicle. Probably just for them to cover there ass if it rolls away in park.

I use mine anytime I'm on a slight incline. Is it necessary? Probably not but it makes me feel better.

 

I only use mine thinking a magical brake ferry actually “self adjusts” my rear brakes……..

 

In the good old days, you could back up in reverse and hit the brakes hard and the shoes would adjust, remember that?

I thought I heard somewhere long ago that this is due to if your truck is hit while parked, the brake will stop it from rolling in park and theoretically saving the transmission from a lot of damage. Can't remember where I heard that but it seems to theoretically make sense

 

There's a slight vibration that I can feel in my steering wheel between 60km/h and 80km/h. I can't find it. My regular mechanic can't find it. 2 of my buddies who wrench on race cars for fun can't find it. Everyone can feel it though.

No power seats.

The mirrors aren't great. Not bad, but not great.

There's a exhaust leak somewhere, probably near the manifold but the exhaust guy I took it to said it was fine there. No idea. I'm not chasing it down at this point.

The paint is paper thin and shitty.


I'm really looking forward to getting my new '22, but I'm also hoping to avoid needing to sell this '05. It'd be nice to have both in the driveway.

 

Different strokes for different folks. I've owned an 07 DC, 14 Limited CM 4x4, and a 17 Limited CM 4x4 that I added tons of TRD pro parts to. Sold it due to the crazy market and just bought an 04 DC. If a genie said he would grant a wish of a new free '22 and I couldn't sell it or guaranteed my 04 would reach 500k miles I'd pick the 500k miles in a heart beat.

 

That's why I'm hoping to keep the '05. It will be a perfect truck for hunting, fishing, chores and having a proven reliable platform. The '22 will fill the needs of a larger, more powerful, more comfortable truck with modern amenities and safety features for The Woman to drive while I'm at work and for family trips.

 

You can't wait until 2023? The 3rd gen section is depressing right now. All kinds of issues popping up. I wouldn't buy a first year unit for a new model.

 

Get a '20 or '21 model and enjoy the safety features and tech while at least getting a reliable power train and larger cab.

 

I've already got a deposit down and The Woman wants a new truck asap since our kid should be born this week. My truck won't be here until the end of May or early June at the soonest. From what I can tell, most of the issues of the '22 are from Feb and earlier builds. From what the 2 techs I know here are telling me, the turbo failures are a really small percentage and they haven't had any at their dealer or know of any elsewhere in Canada. Anecdotal, but it's something Either way, I'll be going over it with a fine tooth comb before accepting delivery and I'm getting the top tier extended warranty. I'm not going to be too upset if it's delayed a little bit though.

Yes and the door trim is already peeling along with a host of other issues. Not the best look for Toyota.

Sorry for the late reply. It's a 1988 R100 GS. I've put about 100K miles on it over the years. Every year I think it's time to replace it and then I ride it and realize nothing will ever replace it. I love it.

 

Exactly my thoughts. Nobody makes a true mid-size truck anymore (what Toyota called full-size 15 years ago). What they call mid-size today is an over-bloated body on a compact frame and interior.

 

Did it come with the triangle windows up front? I love those things.
