I thought your “wastewater” was a joke so didn’t comment on it BUT “in correct” should be spelled “incorrect”.

Apples and oranges. Read up on the chicken tax for light duty trucks and domestics vs. foreign owned.

Supply chain and workforce is most of what a cad company is. Those are not minor components they can just write off and keep taking customers money.

Some are saying they are worthless. Some are saying they should get a pass. Neither is correct.

You said US based manufacturing is the only option for non-domestic automakers. But it's not. Mexico is an option because of NAFTA. For reference, see the Toyota Tacoma.
    Agreed.

Looks like latest Turbo failure on FB is still February build date.

Sure I’ll bite on that hypothesis. Maybe they did make the decision to lower training standards and skip quality checks to hit their numbers. Continuing on your hypothesis that what we are seeing is in fact is the result of those changes on November-February builds, but as you said that time has now in the past.

So if the pandemic is now past, Toyota NA has reversed those changes and we are back to the normal standards please answer me why is there zero and I mean absolutely zero effort being expended to identify and fix the problem builds. Endless posts about “don’t worry engineering is surely all over it.” At this point I am questioning if there is any real attempt to solve it. We are seeing failures at hundreds and thousands of miles. Yet I am not seeing any evidence of engineering making a serious effort to identify and fix the problem builds that could fail today or years from now or anywhere in between. Toyota NA apparently doesn’t want to know when. I think those saying that some massive investigation is underway, are likely doing that on blind faith in the brand.

Sadly I suspect you might be right that these early 4-5 month builds will be known forever as Covid Tundras with glitchy turbos, missing window seals and god knows what else that Toyota NA consciously chose to write off along with the long term resale value of customers that own them. How else can you explain how they are treating those who are waiting weeks or months for parts, no warranty extensions, no loaner trucks, no payment assistance, no TSB to QC, no recalls, etc. etc. Those decisions by Toyota NA all continue today. What’s their excuse today?

I think it’s more of a valid reason than an excuse. It’s this: we’re not, in fact, back to normal. Not by a long shot. There are still insane delays across every industry. Pent up demand still exceeds lagging production. Pandemic restrictions are still in place in various places across the world. Toyota and automakers in general (and pretty much every other company in the world) have been forced to use different suppliers or even forgo entire systems in their vehicles in order to keep their doors open and keep offering their products. We are still in an obviously very far from ideal situation.

New model hiccups that would have been mopped up quickly in 2019 are taking FOREVER now. Did you see the guy whose ‘22 has been waiting on a front coilover long enough to be lemon law’d? Does that sound like the effects from the pandemic are over to you?

Exactly, ignoring the pandemic and/or pretending prematurely that it is over instead of taking common sense precautions is precisely what got us into this mess. Or more accurately keeps us in the mess longer than we should be. Things surely are better but the supply chain is not normal yet. Not even close.

Less than 2 day supply right now for everyday cars - forget about a low volume seller like a Tundra

Toyota's day's supply of vehicles in the U.S. now stands at less than two versus an historic rate of 40 to 45 days. He expects that to recover to 30 days as the supply chain recovers. "The vehicles are being sold literally before they are built,"

    https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/toyota-cuts-22-u-car-155706543.html

I think its going to take a good long time to see even this 30 day supply mark.
Thinking of going to a dealer and finding a new Tundra for sale on the lot ?
Its worse if you are looking at buying a used vehicle.
As the guy down the street from me looking for a used SUV is finding out.

Explain all this to someone who just spent $60-$70k and before the first payment is even due their truck is sitting in the shop for a month......personally I wouldn't give a damn about any of those excuses. The lack of communication from Toyota is unacceptable and poorly handled at best.

Every day a new set of goal posts for Toyota NA. It could be Christmas 22 and you folks would come up with something.
In the interim, Boeing is cranking out planes that fly, Sherwin Williams is making paint that dries, SpaceX is launching thousands of satellites, and Pfizer and Moderna are on their way to vaccinating half the planet. Somehow the rest of us don't get a pass. Some of you appear to want Toyota NA to exist in consequence free fantasy world were they get to keep people's money for a truck that can't move. Oh poor little Mike Sweers and his engine plant in Alabama. They must be super duper special people. We need to give them extra patience and special understanding they have really really hard problems unique to them. Maybe if we are all patient little boys and girls, Santa will fly some elves down to Alabama to help Mike and the gang fix the broken tools.

Yeah, personally attacks anyone who doesn't agree with his opinion......how forward thinking of him.

This is the same person who washed his travel trailer floor with water then was surprised that the crappy MDF cabinets got water damage.....YCFS

To the people who just spent $60-70k on a brand new truck that needs work at the tail end of a pandemic when it's nearly impossible to get parts on any kind of reasonable time frame, I guess I would say, I'm really sorry. The delays are worldwide. Nearly every industry is lagging. Every manufacturer has extra issues or made huge concessions to keep things going on a scale that even attempts to resemble normal. If you have tried to buy nearly anything aftermarket (or even OEM) for your previous truck, then you knew this going into it. If it worked out for you, great. But you took a really big chance. If it didn't, I'm sorry. I hope your truck isn't lemon law'd because it's sitting at the dealer waiting for a coilover (as is the case with a forum member).

When did this issue first rear its head? Is it possible they are still in the "documentation" phase trying to collect data to narrow down where things went astray and exactly what trucks were affected? Certainly takes time (more time than a month for your truck to be fixed) to put out a blanket recall statement that XX number of trucks built in this time frame need to be recalled and have a part replaced.

Sorry "insert alternate analogy here" The question still remains. Why does Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama, Inc. (TMMAL) get to a pass to take money for a flawed product while the rest of us have to maintain standards and maybe sell a few less? Please answer?

    I was being facetious.
For those of us who don't buy what billionaire manufacturers want to push on us (flawed products) and can't understand why people line up for more..... yeah, not a terribly incorrect analogy!

Looks like mid to late December were the first reports on FB of customers reporting dealers telling them the code was the stuck wastegate or bad wastegate sensor. Earlier December reports of Check Engine/Reduced power, not certain it was wastegate, but likely.

I would think that 2 years of supply chain issues in multiple facets of life due to circumstances none of us has seen in our lifetime is enough warning that in the relatively unlikely event there is an issue with your brand new truck, it may take longer for Toyota to resolve than it would have in 2019. :notsure:
