The 22 Tundra is that nice pair of workout pants you see at a store, but when she turns around the face is just horrific.

Side profile of the 22 is nice, the grill kills it

Regarding whether Toyota is out of touch for still offering chrome (which, if you’re going to make that argument, it needs to apply to all the other trucks as well), the way I see it is this: new truck buyers skew older. Guys with families, guys with grandkids, retirees pulling campers to the next KOA. Older guys tend to like chrome accents. Or, even if they don’t prefer it, they don’t care to go out and paint match everything right away. For the younger bunch who doesn’t like chrome, congrats! There are options for you, too.

“Truck does truck stuff. Who cares about chrome?” I would argue that is the attitude most prevalent in the demographic who buys the most new trucks.

I, too, offer no data @Donas @GODZILLA . Actually, one data point: Toyota is the most profitable automaker in the world and generally knows what they’re doing. It’ll become an issue when it starts to affect their market share.

Yes, you are correct, that statement would apply to all truck manufacturers. Perhaps the original statement is being taken out of context. To like or dislike any item or feature is merely referring to that, not the brand. One would really have to despise chrome to avoid a vehicle or on a larger scale manufacturer. I wouldn't think something of that nature would affect one's purchasing of a vehicle or not, therefore the bottom line will never be affected. A poll of the general automobile purchasing public would be interesting.

For the record, I'm close to the first group you mentioned, the retired guy, chrome not my favorite but not enough to put effort/expense into covering it.

I guess I am the old guy now. I think the blacked out stuff is okay, but I think it is a trend and will eventually fade away. Much like patina is the big thing in the classic truck world right now. It all changes and that's good. The fun of owning a vehicle is making it yours. Who cares what grills others like? You pick what you like. I don't understand the guys that don't own a 22 and come on here and bash how ugly they think they are. Really? Geez, why bash other guys trucks? Does it make you feel better about what you have (or don't have). I see lots of cars and trucks at shows around the country that I am astonished someone built, but I don't go bash the guy for doing it. Have an opinion, but don't be tool about it. Oh, and the 1794 has the best grill ;)

ahh..ok.. I had a 19’ and side by side said the opposite. Personally I disliked the previous grille ALMOST as must as the 22! The new grille on platinum isn’t half bad for me against the black and having it painted. Obviously each to their own taste but overall no regrets.

I agree. Enthusiasts are a very small market share.

Speaking only of 2.5 gen, for every 10 I see on the rode, maybe 1 has swapped to color matched handles, mirror caps, hood bulge, TRD Pro grill, etc.,…all others are stock, regardless of the amount of chrome. Yet, on the forums/FB groups, it’s probably close to 50%. Hell, there’s a whole thread just for people to reach out to @Roman

That is my standard response to anyone making an “ugly” truck argument or observation. I declare their truck to be ugly as well. Strangely they get their feels hurt.

Since the subject of truck grills was on my mind, saw a Silverado in a parking lot today and you wanna talk about ugly grills...
