I think the dirty secret is that Gen1 guys torque for value most of the time and impact with feel or lower settings occasionally. Excluding me of course.

If you bring a bike to the salton sea, I'll ride it (not that you would let me), but I won't run it downhill in ruts. That shit can hurt.

If you come and camp at Ocotillo Wells next year after San G we'll see :D

Okay, so here's my experience riding bikes directly near Salton Sea. There are some seriously soft sand dunes that will cause your front end to sink to the forks, this isn't normal of sand in the area and it's scary. The dunes look tempting to play in, but I will stay away from them from now on. One time, my mom got her SxS high centered in the area and it took us a bit to dig her out, that was fun.

Here's a picture of actually both my bikes at the Salton Sea in 2012. The one on the left I purchased from pops in 2014 and at that time we sold the 450 on the right. @FrenchToasty Peep that MSR sticker

    bike.jpg

Here's my truck at that same point more recently:

    truck.jpg

Some of the dunes in question. This looks like paradise but it sucked us in the one time we tried to hit it, and we love sand.

I still can't say other than I have no complaints. I'm running the same tires, so no change there. No problems. I went from around +3 caster to about +4.5 and I'm not sure I love that. It's good but different when the front end gets light. I don't know enough about caster, but I might have them try for +3.5 next alignment. It's a guess, because I might want +5. The arms are tight and perfect so far. Although Solo swears there is no ride height change, I'm cranking two turns before next tire up-size. That's coming soon. In general - they are sweet and I'm confident in my tire up size. I think that's where the money is at for sure. If you need more caster, they get it.

What do and don't you like about the feel?

More caster = heavier feel or more pressure for the steering wanting to return to center.

Less caster = lighter feel and more prone to wandering and being vague at freeway speeds.

the added caster will help with larger tires. if you dont plan on going soon, 3.5 should be better

Fair enough. Last bikes I rode were a KX250 and my buddy's CR450. I know what you are talking about with end stuffing and loose/silt soil. I will camera the shit out you.

There is another spot with silt that builds up near some train tracks; every time I've been down it on a bike, I have laid the bike down and fallen. There's a route I take to avoid it... It's fun in the truck though.

Great question because I'm not sure.
Drives great at 70MPH. Also feels ready to jump left or right only if I steer slightly.
On rough terrain, under power, feels loose, but kind of like - which way?
I guess the best way to describe it - perfect, until I am on it dry or loose ground, then, more loose than I anticipate.
    I'm at +4.5

I have no idea what that means, but I tried like hell to get a time on the way home today. I was thinking of you. Traffic had different plans, you might see my meager times tomorrow. :)

Tank slapper: (usually happens right as the front end gets weightless, almost wheelie)

Death wobble: (probably loose steering bits with a solid front axle, dunno)

Completely different but exactly the same thing happens to skateboards when bombing hills with loose trucks. Known as the ‘speed wobble’. Ironically it only happens when you’re going too fast to jump off and run out of it, but you still try. Every. Single. Time.

In all the time I’ve spent in ocotillo, I’ve never made it out to the Salton Sea. Don’t know why. I see your bikes are plated. Baja kits and then jump thru hoops to register street-legal? Can’t tell what the bikes are specifically but they don’t look like dual sports.
Also I need to learn more about this San G trip you speak of but if ocotillo is part of it, I’d be interested. I’ve got a few friends with properties out there.

I went by my buddy's shop yesterday to discuss them working on my truck. They had a ZL1 they were fixing a hack water/meth install someone else did. They went for a test run and I decided to follow just to see if I could keep up(I'm on the Aprilia). We get to i-27 and get on the access road and roll from about 30 and I actually keep up! Then, outta nowhere, this beast of a car just flys by me as I'm doing 120-130. Good God that thing is loud. We roll from 30 again and it's the same story so I'm feeling good about the bike.

We pulled over so they could switch drivers and Ryan tells me, "damn man, I was only doing about 25% throttle. I couldn't get any traction!" Well fuck. I just thought I was fast.

So now I guess I need an Aprilia tuono 1100 v4. I need a liter bike.

put your cab on an access cab frame.
Might take a little fab work - but what's not fun about fab work?

yes, but you can diagnose beyond a code reader.
The guys at my dealership, the diagnostics stop at the code on their reader.

I woke up this morning to a wrecked first gen Tundra in front of my neighbors house. The house was on the market so I hope it's new owners.
