Really not sure how your age plays into this, but about 2.5" of lift with 4x4 is my opinion.

Since you mentioned axles I'm going to assume that you have 4x4. General consensus is that going beyond 2" of lift is where things get problematic.

Worth noting that you will want to look over any and all joints (lower ball joint, tie rod ends, and cv boots) for wear and replace while you are at it if they aren't in good shape. Lifting by this method may cause a worn part to show itself when the normal servicing angle becomes changed.

Also worth noting, if you are getting the Fox make absolutely sure that they have the updated lower coil mount. For years Fox used a short lower coil mount and that comes into contact with brake lines. They recently changed to use a mount from their Tacoma kit, this provides the clearance.

 

I’m still waiting on my fox order. You’ll have plenty of time to decide on new CV axles. I decided yes. Definitely something you would need for a front locker.

 

Was not aware of the Tacoma Kit. I did read somewhere that a low profile banjo bolt was recommended.

 

I agree with this. I've "lifted" my truck twice and some parts I did not replace the first time around. They started to quickly show their age such as LCA bushings.

One thing you'll want to be concerned about with the CVs is the fins of the boots rubbing, both on the inboard and outboard CV. At ride height, the tolerance isn't as obvious, so jacking the truck up and letting the suspension droop will let you see how close the fins get to each other.

You could even put something like petroleum jelly on one fin to see if it transfers over.

 

There is a thread here somewhere from @evilrb where he pointed out that Fox will send the updated lower perches if you reach out to them. I had to reach out to them and they sent a set over.

The banjo bolt on the caliper kind of works but it is more trouble than you should go through. Our calipers have texture on them so the copper washer won't seal correctly. I filed my calipers down flat, but it is VERY easy to mess that up as I learned. Probably better to have a spot machined or something.

Here is the old style of lower mount hitting my banjo bolt. Prior to the brake line mod it was smashing the hard line. The newer mount they borrowed from the Tacoma rises up about half an inch so that this doesn't happen.

 

Does anyone know what the stock height is on these trucks with the "TRD Offroad Package"? If I go 1.5-2" lift is that a big change?

My issue/concern is purely the age (21+) of things like the LCA bushings, so I appreciate your comment. As I precaution I guess I should replace those when my new front brakes go in. I have already replaced the LBJ's (OEM), steering rack and tie rod ends at the stealership. Was not advised at the time that I should be concerned with CV Boots etc. but makes me wonder now. My truck has < 50k miles and has never been used offroad so the suspension hasn't been through those rigors or driven in northern climates. But, the Florida heat is brutal.

 

I'm sure the bushings on the front sway bar and sway bar end links will need replaced as well. I'll likely be getting new sway bar end links from Suspension Maxx.

 

Been shopping tires for quite a while now. Finally pulled the trigger on the best out the door price and called to confirm the appt. Backordered 3-6 weeks. oof. Called my local shop and they can get the 5 I want in 2 days and about 200 less than anyone advertised. Sweet.

 

What tires did you get? I'm still deciding. Leaning towards BFG KO2s.I'm finding most things I'm looking at are on back order. I'm getting frustrated with the shop I'm going to deal with to do my suspension work, brakes, wheels tires etc. I basically had to nag everyday until they finally ordered the wheels I want which are hard to find.

Yeah, everything I do takes twice as long and costs twice as much. At a minimum, twice as long, lol.

 

There are so many choices. Sounds like the Toyos are off the table for me. I've also been looking at Coopers

 

The tire thread on here really likes the Coopers - not sure which ones.

 

Here are a few pics from the paint shop. This place is top notch. My hood and roof were the worst but happy to say only on the surface.

Still haven't started the frame clean up yet.

I'm also torn on paint. Definitely staying with Original color Sunfire Red Pearl but having second and third thoughts about going two tone. My plan was to go with the Ironman look which I like a lot but once it's done, I'm committed. The paint shop said I could always do a wrap for the two tone look which now has me thinking.

 

The shop told me they tried using a stripper (here we go) without much success so resorted to hand tools.

 

It's clear you are not 100% on two tone so don't lock yourself in. Solid color and if you become sure later, do it then

@Outbound would love the levels of Bureaucracy involved to be able to do that. We get charged to pull burn permits, we also have to put in paperwork for shutdowns, and lastly none of the valves usually hold; HVAC dept is in charge of those as well……
So in some situations it’s nice to use……

haha my lead will silver solder braise joints, that regular soldering would have been more than enough

 

My toyos have done pretty well, a little loose in the rain, but my foot gets excited when it’s wet out. Pretty even wear so far, a little bit of chunking, but I do shit like this with them.
