Any company that will have you bring your truck in, take it apart, and place it on a new frame is a seemingly stand up company to me; whether it be government enforced or not. You would think they want to do what's required, but not give away the store.

If they find the root cause and it is widespread, there will be a recall. Let’s wait and see.

Agreed 100%. All the more reason the current wall of silence situation is so odd.

I don’t think they were being cautious it was a real safety issue NHTSA requires it. That being said it was affected and it took about five minutes to check.

Complete apples and oranges to 4 to 6 weeks out of service.

I think this is the 4th buyback I've seen mentioned on FB. Good on these dealers instead of keeping the truck off the road for weeks or longer.

That is a select few and they know the issue. Turbo issues? Eh haven't heard or seen the root cause... because they aren't sure.

OMG! Don't say that! What will the naysayers have to pick on next? The JBL system...nah, they haven't heard it yet but they know it sucks.

Why are you equating the stereo system with the drive train?

    Ongoing thread developing on FB.

Two soon to be ex Toyota employees arguing this on the owner's FB forum in front of 50K+ followers, no doubt many of them Toyota owners.

Well if any good comes of this, maybe Japan will come take out the trash at Toyota NA in Texas that let it come to this.

100% agreed. I won't be in the market for a significantly long time, so I'm confident the 3rd gen will be a fairly attractive option by then. Especially if Toyota offers a heavy duty payload package. (If I keep saying it, maybe it'll happen) :frusty:

To be fair, there are some 2nd gen owners repeatedly hi-fiving each other over how much they hate the looks of the 3rd gen. Personally, I think having strong opinions on how a utilitarian vehicle looks is lame. If you cut through that noise, you'll see there are a lot of people on here who are genuinely interested but hesitant.

I was in the market, I do like the new Tundra. I chose a used 2.5 Gen because I like reliability. It's proven. The 22 hasn't proven itself yet. All new with almost no carryover. First year problems are real. Everyone wants to believe they made good decision with their $50k (or more) purchases. They will psychologically defend them.

See, I am a 2.5 gen owner... I love the look of the 3rd gen, but as said above.. I DO NOT want a truck I have to worry about. I had a chevy once.... I don't want another.

I love the looks of all the Tundras. 2000-2022. At the end of the day, it's a truck. I can't even imagine giving a crap about how a tool I use for towing and hauling looks. If a PT Cruiser could tow 100,000 pounds and haul 10,000 pounds, I'd snatch one up in a heartbeat.

That being said, the turbos are definitely an issue, but the car hasn't even been out for 6 months yet. They're obviously trying to find a solution, and it's also affecting such a small number of trucks that writing off the 3rd gen as a piece of crap and that Toyota has lost their way is a moronic mentality to have. Shit happens. Get over it. At least they're not ignoring the situation as Nissan did with their CVTs for the first couple of years.

I was one of them. I was 100% getting a 2022 Pro when it was revealed.
Loved the look, loved the interior, loved the 583 lb ft of torque @ 2400 RPM.
    I am no longer interested.

But Toyota has been historically so good at taking care of problems- especially those under warranty, coupled with any lengthy repair job most likely coming with a loaner I have full confidence in my purchase and their ability to take care of issues. If I have an issue I will either take it in for service or have it towed in on their dime.

I’m fairly sure most on here can say something similar

it truly doesn’t matter how good any company is at taking care of problems when the problems persist like they do. People have jobs and lives and are too busy to deal with the tedious problems that are arising.

As others have said, this is not just a new gen issue, this is a QC issue.

Depends on where the truck breaks down. I plan on using my truck for family road trips, and would hate to be stuck somewhere 1,000 miles away from home regardless of how well they take care of the issues.

Now that's true. Being a fair bit away from service would be less than ideal putting it lightly.

New model issues are expected, even from Toyota I guess. But the weird QC stuff? It almost feels like a different company is building the 3rd gens. Seems that Toyota is being affected more by supply chain and workforce issues than any of us thought.

If I was going to be building a super hi tech engine I'd want the factory to be located in a place with an educated and motivated worker pool, not the cheapest place to build and hire, which is apparently what they did.

“Our team members in Alabama recognize the confidence and trust Toyota places in us since we are the only assembly plant selected to build engines for the all-new Tundra,” said Jason Puckett, president of Toyota Alabama.

Well, the workforce has been severely de-motivated everywhere. And I’m not sure I agree that building a factory on US soil and paying US workers was the cheap option.

How many of the issues we see can be traced back to the Alabama plant? What does that plant have to do with the wastegate (which as I understand it is a supplier part)? What does it have to do with badges falling off, only one side mirror having auto-dimming, or the rear wheel hub looking like it just fell apart from not being tightened together?

It doesn’t seem that the issues I’ve read about (there could be others I’m not aware of, sure) have to do with how that engine is assembled.
