I get that it can be frustrating if it seems some people are only looking for problems, but if they’re regularly finding those problems, you should maybe be more concerned with the problems themselves rather than the messenger, despite your perceptions as to what the messenger’s motivations may be. Making informed decisions is a good thing.

I’d be extremely hesitant to buy a ‘22 right now. Just like I’d be hesitant to buy a ‘21 which was built within the range of steering rack issue dates.

 

I've been saying that you should wait for the second year before you buy any new design. Especially with all the issue from the past two years. Add on top of that they replaced an abacus (old tundra) with a super computer (new tundra) and now you're getting the blue screen of death. Yes, there will be first year issues. Early adopters get to beta test them. If you want reliability, wait. Just because it's a Toyota doesn't mean it won't have growing pains.

 

Yep, and the steering rack issue with the later '21s seems to be more of a cut-and-dry fix. If they have the parts, you can be in and out in one day. The same may be true of the waste gate issue, but Toyota hasn't revealed if they've fully identified the problem or narrowed down exactly when on the production line that it happened or issued recalls to anyone who may have a truck built at that time or expanded that to anyone who potentially had any work done during that time.

Their handling of the steering rack issue is classic, overly cautious Toyota. Their apparent silence regarding many questions with the turbo waste gate issue is not very characteristic of Toyota.

 

LOL, speaking of "too high," this could come with a new Camry XSE for FREE and STILL be way too high!!

 

i can appreciate someone sharing a possible issue or maybe a problem, keeps me on the lookout and aware. However, you have owners of the later model tundras saying be careful buying a 21 (steering issues) and be hesitant of buying the 22 (multi issues). However, many many have been down the domestic’s routes and have had such an unfavorable experience with them. Repairs, quality issues, chinchy etc…… which raise their ugly appearance even as the truck is under 80,000 miles. After those experiences many loath the idea of going down the domestic route again. So they choose Toyota Tundra or maybe even a Nissan Titan … seriously if you recommend not buying a ‘21 or ‘22 Tundra what exactly are you recommending ….
I am not giving up on Toyota !
I believe they will work with the new owners and make it right whatever the issues.

 

We get it, first year truck has issues that need to be ironed out. CHECK I have faith that Toyota will make it right, maybe you don't have faith in Toyota? Maybe you are jealous of the attention 2022 trucks are getting? Who knows at this point lol

I don't but I will buy one in a year or 2. Literally just bought the wife a new Highlander a month ago and want to pay that off first.

 

This is the way. Sucks for people who have big issues and Toyota has no ETA for replacement parts. Bound to happen with a completely new vehicle and supply chain issues worldwide though, hence why I plan to wait a year or 2 so the details can be ironed out.

 

Leer has the 100XR available for the crewmax 6.5’ FYI. Just ordered yesterday. 2-3 week eta.

 

And there seems to be many that are implying 2014-2017's had zero issues, which is far from the case - and that's on a 7-10 year old platform (at that time) with old proven technologies. Heck after 14 years they still had cam tower leaks - and they knew the cause and had a perfectly good solution, but there weren't enough failures from the factory to warrant changing the material at the factory. Then there's rusting under the bed issues, soy based wiring, and leaky differentials.

Is the 2022 having issues - absolutely. Most of which look to be solvable with simple solutions or software patches. But it's an all new truck - only major component that's carried over is the name. Expecting an all new vehicle to be perfect (or even just small minor issues) is unrealistic, no matter who is making it. Once these vehicles have millions of miles with the hugely varying uses then we will see how Toyota has done - reliability wise. Until then expect new things to keep popping up.

 

I'm a fan of the 122 or the 180. Cab height is sleek looking but extra height is what I look for.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not a Toyota hater. Not even a 3rd gen hater. But if I were in the market, I would hold. At least until the world gets its shit together and it doesn't take a month to get a coilover. A simple thing like this has become so hard to actually do that this dude is in danger of having his truck lemon law'd. Unreal. Replacing a coilover would have been in-and-out, no problem pre-2020.

 

You are correct but this supply chain problem is in every facet of life right now. Ask anyone building a house. Also Toyota is not the only car manufacturer with supply chain issues go to any body shop and they will tell you some parts are Weeks if not months out it sucks but it affects everyone not just Toyota

I have a 2021 Nissan Sentra that been sitting on the lot for 3 months waiting for a window switch at my work place. Still no ETA. Same with a 21 Jeep Wrangler for steering damper for over a month now. Both Nissan and Jeep part under warranty.

Rental fleet car. Can’t send it out to rent with broken window switch. Window switch works intermittently, and window got stuck down.

I think that is bullshit to be honest, we are taking about 50-60-70K here and this guy just wants a "oh well, Toyota will fix it". I get that but this isn't just one problem here. if it was just the unfortunate turbo problem or one of the others then ok, but from a QC standpoint, its a shitshow, too many problems to list.

I don't hate it at all, actually, I like it and wanted to buy one, but Im leaning much more to waiting until 2023 tundra or until I don't see all these stupid rattles, leaks, etc.

 

Same. Happy to let others be the guinea pig for a totally brand new truck. I still think it's asking a lot for ANY company to develop something completely new, complex and expensive and expect there to be very few problems. That's just being realistic. Ebb and flow...
