Took the Tundra to the dealership for its last complimentary oil change and bought out my lease last week. This morning I come out to find this!!!!

I’m not sure if the service department overfilled the fluids or if I have a more serious problem on my hands. I have done some research and the fluid is either transmission or coolant. Thankfully I did purchase the extended warranty when I bought out my lease. Any advice would be great!!!

Looks like it could be coolant overflow.

you have a pic of the coolant container?

I was going to say that is what I usually see following me every time I work on my truck. Without fail I will slice my hands or arm on something, it is one of my talents.

Ha! I usually do too. I’ve tried gloves but sometimes they seem to be more of a hassle or get caution something.

    Yup. Coolant came out.

not sure if there is a leak or what? Fill it and see if there is a leak. If not have it running and see.

just my quick hit problem solver. I’m sure there are more thorough things to look for

It’s definitely leaking and not from being overfilled. I don’t see anything from the topside of the engine compartment. Oh well time to call the dealership. Don’t want to cause anymore damage if there is any. :annoyed:

Water pump might be leaking. There’s a weep hole towards the bottom of the pump, have it running and shine a light down towards the bottom of the pump. Just be careful around the clutch fan…

I’ll check it out. I’m mechanically challenged and usually brake more shit than I fix!!! So maybe it is best to have the dealership look at it and fix it.

There is a lot more buildup in that area. It seems to be coming from higher up and running down and collecting around that area. I just turned on the truck to see if the coolant levels rise and if I can see anything.

That’s leaking from underneath the intake manifold. Heat exchanger plate more than likely. Uses silicone sealer.

I just idled the truck for about 15-20 minutes and the coolant container started to fill. Not all the way full but much better. Would you suggest I just let the dealership deal with it @Toyotech170891 ? Thank you all for the help.

Just a side note: Did you check the oil level after the oil change? I'd make sure they filled the oil and that's not what might be causing overheating. Not that it's leaking oil, but hopefully them not adding oil is not the cause of your engine overheating condition. Way way outside chance but I'd check that. to rule that out.

Online mechanic advice .... "So, if your car is low on oil, possibly due to an oil leak, it can lead to engine overheating. Oil lubricates internal engine components and makes sure they move smoothly. Lack of lubrication causes friction, which will generate excessive heat, and potentially cause the engine to fail."

It does look like there may have been some long term coolant leaking going on and you didn't mention the overheat idiot light coming on or temp gauge getting pinned.

Oil is at the second dot of the dipstick so it appears to be good there. Who knows??

    That doesn't look good

Hopefully it's not a head gasket failing

If your head gasket is going. It'll make heat/pressure from the combustion chamber will get into the cooling system, then cause the overflow to spew coolant.

Your engine is done at that point

Did you get an oil change when it was out of oil?

Neglecting oil changes and not keeping it full and topped off, will cause very expensive problems

All the service has been done by the dealership and it up to date. I only drive about 6,500 miles a year and check my oil level every 2 months. No issues there. I hope it doesn’t end up to be an endless problem. At the end of it, at least I purchased the extended warranty when I bought the lease out. Figures crossed!!!

Service advisor called me back today and said the leak is coming from underneath the intake manifold. They took the plate off and re-siliconed it and let it sit for 4-6 hours. They conducted a pressure test and it failed. Service advisor said the shop foreman is involved and may need a new engine block. Craziness for a Tundra with 27,000 miles but I understand that all Toyotas are not perfect. This is my 3rd Tundra but first time I have ever had something like this happen. Picking up my loaner car today. I’ll keep you guys posted.
