Greetings. I have a 2010 Tundra regular cab with the 4.6. I absolutely love this truck and every time I sit in it, I got a smile. Every year I get a big frown. I am getting ready to replace the power steering hose again, this would be no 8.
I live in the north and right from day one I have been concerned about the long and high revving after starting, even if it is warmed up. Apparently nothing can be done about it.
For a bunch of years I was replacing the power steering hose in January. The last one I replaced I used synthetic power steering fluid and I got 26 months out of it.
Toyota price in Canada is over $1000 plus installation. The ONLY hose shop in this area will not work on automotive hose citing safety issues. Rock Auto (God love them) has them between $160 and $360.
In my mind, this is issue is of no sense.
It is always nice to get some comments from others who just might be able to point out what maybe happening and help me from getting more frowns !
    TIA

    Welcome from NorCal!
Is this a cold weather related issue? Does it crack and start leaking or something?
I’m sure I, and many others, have yet to replace that hose.

Is it rubbing on something from a vibration causing it to wear through? I'm in AB and had an 08 and never replaced that hose.

Can you not just buy a different brand or even go to a commercial hydraulic hose shop and have them make you one. Then use zip ties to anchor/support it in open air so it doesn't rub anywhere. You could change the length and or route with a custom made hose as well. Another idea is to put it inside a bigger hose or other armor. I keep old hoses to use for shielding rubbing all the time. Cut off a piece, slit it, pop over, zip tie closed. Works great.

I agree! How is the hose failing?

Be careful with buying products from Rock Auto. I got a power steering pump and ps pressure line. Both were the wrong type.

I have no clue why the line itself would go out. I'm assuming you've tried using OEM lines.

Rock Auto lines for my Tundra were too short. The new line is silver and the old one is black. Not trying to make this about my issue, I just wouldn't want you to go through the process of getting a part and it not matching. OEM is expensive, but if it has a warranty on it, just replace it when it goes out. Easier said than done

It seems like it's related to your truck, not all Tundras. If I had to guess I would say the pressure regulator might be bad in the PS pump and the hose is under too much pressure. But that's just a wild guess without seeing the broken hose. If it is putting out too much pressure sooner or later you will damage something else in the steering system.

Started again. I do live in a cold area, Labrador, but so far this year we have very little cold but I had to again add fluid. I have tried several brands of hose as I have been replacing it every winter for at least 12 years or so. It just leaks out around the fitting, not the connection. I didnt realize that there might be a pressure regulator in the pump. I asked my mechanic and he believes it is not the pump. I will not use the OEM hose as it is $1100 plus installation. We have no dealer near by. No shop that makes hoses will fabricate one for me citing legal reasons. I am seriously looking at replacing the pump. Now, all comments are very much appreciated and for those that got back to me already, a very sincere thank you.

Maybe try Driftmotion 1 piece power steering hose for the SC400??? I'm replacing my SC400 one after 30 years since its leaking... I tried a few hydraulic hose repair sites, they said 4 to 500 to rebuild it, but it may be noisy, or thats 1 of 7 excuses they gave me.... Would've been happy with him telling me to go f myself.... long story short he told me go OEM... so I went driftmotion. I can share what it looks like, since I haven't replaced it yet.
