Is there any upgraded head units that look stock and keep the ac knobs and heated seat buttons, etc? I saw the Tesla head unit but I don’t want to loose the factory ac knobs. I also want to maintain as much stock look as possible.

Looks nice but not stock lol. I am not a huge fan of the protruding head units but to each his own. Trying to find a unicorn head unit I guess. On my Tacoma there is a joying head unit that looked stock as if it was made for the Tacoma. Seeing if something exists like that for the tundra.

@OGDark Knight certainly has a nice setup.
Maybe a floating screen would be the way to go..

    But on to indash:
Just about any double din HU will work, I prefer Kenwood.
But as far as looking 'stock' that may be a challenge.

Depending on your OCD, you pretty much have 2 choices in a HU dash kit.
Silver or gloss black, neither really look 'stock'.

The gloss black looks a little out of place.

    5o0oyxmy_zpsz8nuvk48_5cf79857b411bac45db4a632fd00e52158fe389f.jpg niaje0lp_zpszmd5klua_d7f911b3dfe4e4d1b76d1cf9b8f2a1311f468a07.jpg

The silver doesn't quite match the color of the climate control.
It would have driven me up the wall every time I looked at it.

After trying both, I settled for black.
    Good luck.........

I hear ya. I tried the 2020+ upgrade but the head unit was just garbage. This was the best option to look as factory as possible. It protrudes about 1/4”

Just needs some faux button stickers on each side and it’d be perfect.

I've been considering this one. I wish they made it with something newer than Android 10.

Do you have tried the newer head unit and the sound was poor or the screen quality was poor? Interested in this idea for sure. I will just be doing Apple CarPlay most likely.

I am curious if 2020 and 2021 tundras that have these stock in their truck have had issues or if it’s just the upgrade/ pre 2020 models.

No, the stock HU is pretty anemic and leaves a lot to be desired on the 2020/21 trucks. Sure, you get CarPlay and AA, but my 2008 JBL system (and later 2010 JBL that I retrofit into the 2008) was much better sounding.

I just can't fall in love with the look of an ipad jury-rigged to my dash.

Got any side pics by chance? I have the 4660 and it bothers me a bit how far back it is along with the lack of tilt. Not a fan of the exposed ones, but this one looks better

Screen looks nice. Too bad there isn’t a trim piece for this to make it look flush.

Yeah- I need a 3D printer and the world is mine….

If you zoom in, you can see I trimmed the sides of the screen in with adhesive strips of rubber. The right side is a little botched, and I am still considering how best to trim it in to get the look you are describing. If I figure something out, I’ll post it to my installation thread.

I was thinking the exact same thing, 3D printer would definitely fit the bill. @THORYOTA does some wildly detailed work with a 3D printer, maybe we can lobby for his services :D

It's actually secured very well, and has easy access to the adjustment settings (up, down, off). You can also tilt it away from the sun as your driving down the road, and don't have to worry about that garbage resolution (of most standard size HUs) not showing up because of polarized sunglasses. It's not 'jerry-rigged' at all, it's a solid build, and has features for days.

I didn't like the idea of a tablet protruding from my dash at 1st either, as I like to keep a stock look, but the features this had, and lack of supply when I purchased it forced my hand. Go to your local car audio and play with screen responsiveness, and you'll see why.

If you want to replace a potato with a potato, you do you, but I'll deal with the 'unfamiliar look' for the gained utility.

Kenwood cams, the exact info is on my build thread.

Coming from a 2020 GMC AT4, I was still impressed with the quality of the HU and cams. Since the cameras were the only redeemable aspect of the AT4, I am very happy.

I have a 3d printer but the color would be the issues unless someone could coat it or paint it somehow.

the more I look at it the 3d printer idea sounds kind of good however the screen needs to be slightly smaller to make a trim piece all the way around. Do they offer a slightly smaller screen?
