Hello, I have a 2020 Trd sport now, I plan on hitting some trails now and again as well as heading to northern maine and nh for overnight camping. I’ve had a built (at the time) YJ in the past and I’m well aware the tundra is not a hardcore off road machine. I also tow with the truck and use the bed.

I was sold on dobinsons IMS 2.25” until I found out about the Eibach protruck 2.0. Seems to be solid, and cheaper, but I’m hung up on the size of the front, seems small for a full-size pig of a truck vs the dobinson setup. I keep buying tundras because of their quality level and don’t want to put anything low quality on it. I had the 6112/5160 combo at 1.9” on my 19 and wasn’t blown away by it.

    opinions??

I run eibach pro truck 2.0, the adjustable threaded, not the clip setting ones. I have them set a 2 inches, and a run RAS heavy duty in the rear which gave an inch lift. Nice setup for the $. Similar, but better than the OR package shocks they replaced. Would be good for some off road work, handle nice on the road. Bit firmer than the OR shocks, eliminate nose dive with braking. They are easy to live with for a lifted suspension.

You should also look at OME, especially if you plan to off road more. I have run OME suspensions on several vehicles, very tuff, reliable- install and forget it. OME runs high, so expect .25 more lift than advertised. They also have several choices on load, light, medium, heavy....suggest you run the "light" version unless you have heavy bumper/winch or run around with lots of weight in the truck. Even the "light" setup will be about 10% firmer than stock. Have that suspension on a 06 4runner, about 80k miles on the OME setup and it still rides as good as when it was installed. Came close to getting OME for my tundra but was sure it would lift the truck 2.75 to 3 inches, and I did not want to mess with UCAs or changing out the rear leafs.

I looked heavy at dobinsons, but they have had issues with coil bind, there is a thread there discussing the lift. Hard pass on them due to that. Not sure if they ever got those issues worked out.

OME, Dobinsons, Eibach Pro truck 2 are are close to the same $, around $1100 or so.

Toytec has some offerings that may interest you as well. And any of these should be better than 5100s.

Lastly, Bilstein has their 8000 series out for a while, may also be something for you to look at.

I'm going Dobinsons twin tube (teal and yellow), not the IMS. Everything I've read about that kit has been positive and I like that it comes with a new set of leaf springs for the rear. Doesn't make sense to me to lift in the front and not the rear. And I do not like the block or shackle lifts so many people seem to be fond of.

Depending on how much lift you want the falcons seems to get high marks as well. I was going to go IMS until I scored some Fox TRD units.

I believe the Eibachs have a million mile warranty so they are not low quality. I had them on a 4Runner and they were great for the time I had that vehicle.

I’ve though about that as well, just getting the standard lift. Mainline overland is about 15 minutes from me and sells dobinson so that’s why I was leaning that way. Nice to have a dealer so close.

The Falcons have been falling apart according to the megathread. Eibach seems like a good choice but man I wish they made a 2.5" version. 2.0" just looks rinky-dink, IMO.

Like an idiot I passed on a complete 21 Trd pro takeoff set for $1800 locally. If I could turn back time.

If you’re patient they come up here fairly regularly. I absolutely love mine. It’s hard to beat factory parts for durability.

Brand new TRD Pro suspension is $2,891 from Sparks. I personally would not pay a penny more than $2,000 for a used one. Probably closer to $1,800.

Check out OME BP 51, get a full 2.5 kit with new leaf packs for around 4k. Add a Roadmaster HD kit for another $700. Be set for years.

I’m running the Eibach stage 2 with 295s. Only a couple months into it and pleased with the bang for buck. It’s firmer than stock but soaks up bumps at speed nicely.

Previous truck had 6112/5160 setup and I feel like it’s over rated for the current prices and lead times.

Would toytec boss kit be an improvement over 6112/5160 setup or pretty much the same?

The 2.0 units are threaded adjustable on the truck, 0 to 2.75 lift. I just have mine set at 2inches. You can set them at 2.5 no issue and if you need more height use some top hat shims for another half inch lift for 3 inches, will need UCA that high however.

2.0 refers to the diameter, not the amount of lift.

Bilsteins have lifetime warranties... til you read the fine print.

Also, based on feedback from others, it seems the Eibachs are a lot like the 5100s (size and design), but with softer valving. That makes a lot of sense for people who want a soft ride on the road. Just depends on what you prefer. 5100s would handle a bit better on and off road, but the ride will be firmer.

2.5 might be "better" but likely not; 2.0 less. This pertains to the design (all are gas charged monotube), and the amount of oil. The more oil and surface area, the better the shock can supply damping on rough roads before it fades... or blows a seal. The 6112 fronts are bigger than even the 2.5s and the rears are all the same size, but the 5160 has an external reservoir. If you need or want the ability to adjust the lift on the front easily, Bilstein doesn't give you that though.

We need to understand that for an on road daily driver, the OEM Tundra shocks will probably give the smoothest ride and good service life. Most aftermarket upgrades are designed with higher damping and offroad performance in mind. You do not need big or expensive or fancy shocks at all, if a smooth ride on the road is your preference. So you need to know what you are after before you decide what is "best"... for you.

So glad I lurked... I haul dirt bikes every weekend with my 2012 4x4 SR5. It's got 170k and shocks are shot so need to be replaced anyway. I also live 10 minutes from this place: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYMBkND9QrI

Pretty set on the Eibach's because of price and adjustability (bed access). I see they have a set with reservoir's coming soon but are reservoir's really helpful doing rock crawling kind of stuff?

I doubt they'll overheat doing that. High speed on rough roads is where they really get tested...
