Then you have to take it up with the dealership. It's not Toyota's issue. It's between you and the dealer since they guided you the wrong direction due to timing with a recall.

Sounds like you're just worked up over this and taking it out on Toyota and saying they suck when it should be "XXXXX dealer SUCKS" Even then, just bad timing and bad suggestion on their part due to lack of knowledge of a larger issue.

The thread says Toyota is reimbursing people who put LEDs in their trucks to (not) solve a wiring issue? Seems like a poor precedent to set on Toyota’s part if so.

I think that's the exact reason why they're being so difficult with OP (avoiding setting a precedent because that makes others want to make the same $$$ request, like with the LED headlights). Nobody in that thread is buying the headlights and then telling the dealership to reimburse them AFTER the fact.

That's EXACTLY what they are doing...(not the dealership but Toyota Corp)

    https://toyota.custhelp.com/app/ans...id-for-repairs-to-your-vehicle-for-a-specific

Problem is, there was (or still is) no fix for the headlight issue. There is a fix for the weak turn signals.

That is also a separate issue that involves the truck potentially burning to the ground, right?

Don't take it the wrong way, Toyota is in no way saying there is a fix. Only my opinion, based on general knowledge that says nearly everthing can be fixed, it's a matter of is the cost justifiable?

Wow, $170 for turning signal led!

Makes be embarrassed for thinking twice about spending $10 each for quality Lasfits leds over the cheaper Amazon options that others were using on the "dim turning light" thread.

How much is *your* time worth with all of this? I'd hope a lot more than $175.

    This^^
I was going to use an example of "you noticed a paint chip on the roof of your truck and you went and installed an aftermarket sunroof and expect Toyota to pay for it," but the suspension one also works.

That’s what I mean. The OP is expecting reimbursement for not fixing a different issue at all because Toyota reimbursed people for fixing their completely different issue that had a much higher potentially catastrophic outcome.

I just googled and sounded like they were replacing wire harnesses for the headlights as a "fix", might have misread. Or maybe a quick "bandaid" to a still unknown.

Some have more time than money! I say phukit, and I will not go down easy if I feel someone owes me even just a nickel. I will intentionally use $500 worth of their time and enjoy every last second of it just because.

How is his issue not fixed at all if the light is now bright enough? I get it, the wiring may still be wrong, but does it function or not? More than one way to skin a cat sometimes.

I could be wrong, but in Toyota's eyes, its not fixed. Its still on the Vin that the recall has not been performed.

If he sold it, the next guy might have a bulb burn out and replace it with a halogen light. Now its back to dim, the pins have to be changed around still for it to be finally fixed.

I vacillated between leaving this alone & jump in guns blazing. I'm taking the middle ground:

I'm sorry there is an issue, I hope Toyota resolves it to your satisfaction.

I need to say they don't owe you 175.00 LEDs

Toyota sucks is inflammatory and unnecessary, I'd suggest Toyota did not do what I wanted.

A brief breakdown of my Toyota history:

1982 Celica "GTA" (Ca dealer Supra interior in a regular 2 door Celica) drove through college and sold for 50% of MSRP with 120k in 1994.
1994 80 Series LC, driven 325k had a defective HG that was replaced at 17x,xxx, running like new today
2000 Tundra, drove back & forth to Mexico until 2004, traded in for 45% of it's MSRP at 95k running perfect.
2006 Camry Hybrid. the 5,000.00 battery failed 6k or so outside warranty and Toyota good willed it, I paid 500 labor.
2010 CrewMax Tundra, bought used at 16xk no issues until I r&rd the trans fluid & I had to install a transmission
2015 Prius, going strong at 52k
2017 86, no issues except it was freaking uncomfortable and only fun at redline
2013 Sequoia, bought used with 126k a year ago running perfectly.

I have had issues with dealers (they are franchisees) but Toyota has always made it right.

In conclusion, I disagree that Toyota sucks, I think for a gigantic company they do a decent job of delivering quality products and service.

I'd suggest to any American that thinks customer service sucks here going to Mexico or elsewhere. I used to think our customer service sucked until I was literally told suck it up, get lost if you don't like it by Mexican phone, electric & water companies (as well as hospitals and other institutions)

    Good luck.

True, but OP did the right thing and approched the dealer for a fix. He was then told to replace the bulbs. He proceeded to do so with a bulb that even though may have been a band aid, still fixed the problem to the best of his knowledge. He and the dealer both didn't know the wiring was at fault. Toyota owes the guy and should pay him.

He followed directions from the dealer. So, okay then we'll just say the dealer owes him. Fair??

There's no way Toyota owes you $175 for LED's. Sorry that's just how it is.

Should they fix the pins/harness/etc...absolutely. However, IMO the OP is overreacting thinking he should be reimbursed for LED's.

Unless the dealer put it in writing on what to do, OP is going to get denied.

This title should read "My Toyota Dealer SUCKS"

    Let's see...
Turn signals that work, but are dim. No fires, no failures, switch the pin out on the harness = fixed.

1 complaining customer who on his own, spent $175 to brighten the turn signals after 1 dealership said they "never heard of it"

Customer rants and sees it as big corporate shitting on the little guy, when in fact they don't own you anything.
You spend thousands of dollars on mods and shit you will never get a penny back from, yet you demand a reimbursement for aftermarket parts that you choose to install...
Toyota is probably using you case as a laughing stock meme within CS.
They don't suck, they are trying to fix much bigger and real problems such as the turbo issue. Your snowflake has melted and you feel entitled to blame Toyota for your tears... Grow up. If Toyota SUCKS so bad, sell your truck to someone who doesn't mind the little things and doesn't need a box of tissues for a $175 mod that you want your money back from. If I missed your point, I don't care.

OP, pour the coal on this fire and get the claim paid. After doing so post up some evidence to prove it.

    2014 MGM DC SR5

When I dropped my Tundra off at the dealership on 11/16/2021, they said 6-8 weeks for cat replacement.
    I'm going week 19.
But at least they gave me a free loaner to drive, so I can't complain..

SO why would they pay for your VLEDS?
I can't see Toyota reimbursing for bulbs that weren't needed to correct the problem.
BTW: I've been running $30 Sirius front and rear LED bulbs for years with no problems.

According to the OP, the dealer suggested replacing bulbs, yes. Did they suggest $175 aftermarket LEDs? Nope.

I’m not sure I’d take “You could try replacing the bulbs. Here’s the OEM part number,” as “do whatever you want; it’s on us (or Toyota).”

Hopefully OP will post the ending for all to see how it is resolved.
