2022 Skid Plates Coming SOON from RCI!

Hey everyone just wanted to post some teaser pics of the new 22 Tundra Skid Plates that will be launching in the next week or two! These are pre-production pictures so there will be some minor tweaks but we are extremely happy with the overall product. Also, note this set has optional Catalytic Converter Guards installed. More details coming soon, let us know what you think!

PS. Rock Sliders, diff skid, and fuel skids, are just around the corner...

1. can you give an estimated cost for what is shown.
2. will it need to be removed for oil change
3. will it use existing holes or will we need to tap new holes

 

Are those carriage bolts on the cat shields or just hex heads?

 

Pretty thin for skid plates, no?

 

Crazy if you’re thinking 10ga steel is thin. I’m sure it’ll be the same material as the 2.5 gen Tundra skids.

@RCIoffroad for the 2.5 gens engine and transfer skid, are you guys going to do an addition to protect our cats with the transfer skid?

 

Oh steel! I thought it was aluminum and that looked pretty thin for aluminum.

 

They are already working the cat plates for those that already have the tranny plate. It will be a bit on addition.

 

Approximately $800 for the set pictured above which includes the cat guards that are roughly $150. There will also be an identical looking 1/4" thick aluminum option starting around $800 W/O cat guards.

Will not need removed for oil change. Filter is accessible via front access panel, and drain plug accessible through a hole on passenger side of front skid plate.

Entirely bolt on into existing locations and compatible with OEM electric air dam

 

You weren't supposed to see that The production version is carriage bolts but we made a mistake and cut round holes in this one, so had to use hex bolts.

 

Cat guards are already designed for the 2nd Gen and will launch hopefully end of next week. They will require drilling holes to work as a retrofit on existing skid plates, but starting in a week or so we will begin cutting the holes into all skid plates so it is a direct bolt-on.

 

Yep, these are 10ga (.135") steel in this pic. There will also be a 1/4" aluminum option.

We use 10ga steel because it is a good balance between strength, weight, and cost, and drastically tougher than OEM skids (if present). A Tundra can certainly dent and ding 10ga but for 90% of buyers they are the ideal solution and won't weigh the truck down.

 

So the skid plate will work fine if you already have a cat guard in place (unbolt the front of the cat guard, line the holes up, and rebolt?)?

 

Do you mean a different brand cat guard? Yes you should be able to overlap them with our front skid plate

 

Are the Cat Guards compatible with the TRD skid plate?

 

Yes they should have no issues at all with the TRD engine skid

What do they weigh including cat shield. Steel and aluminum?

 

Approximately 90lbs for the steel set with Cat Guards, 65lbs for the aluminum set with Cat Guards

 

Hopefully I can order a set with the current sale once you guys cut the holes for the cat shields and they are a bolt on! Guessing the site will be updated when you guys are doing the holes before you ship them or when are you able to buy them with the cat holes?

 

From the photos it looks like you can still access the rear passenger cats. Or is that just the angle of the photo? Waiting to see how the coverage will be for the 2.5 gens

That's what I am waiting for so I can either get the full rci or just rci for the engine and vahalla for the rest.
