I inspected my spare wheel/tire yesterday and have decided to replace it. Since I am upgrading to big brake kit up front I will also be upsizing to 17s with 285/70/17 tires. My question is will a 17" wheel fit underneath as a spare? If yes, what is the largest size tire that you have managed to fit underneath? Were mods required?

 

I should have mentioned that I have stock exhaust system.

 

Yes, 17" wheels will fit underneath as as spare. 17" wheel size is what a lot of these trucks had as a stock spare. 285/70/17 should fit as a spare with no modifications. I'm running the same size (actually 1/10" bigger) and it fits just fine. Have the BFH (big friendly hammer) just in case, doubt you'll need it.

 

Send him a postcard of Dick Van Dyke and just write under it, "unsolicited Dick Pic".

If he's sick or hurt at least he'll get a laugh out of it. Don't even put your name. Make it a mystery.

OME 2885s on a stock AC after a 2" lift. Shouldn't be rocket science.
The shocks are harsh. They're valved much too stiffly for a stock truck. And I've been running these E-rated Coopers at 35psi so I know it's not rock-hard tires beating me up.

Our service manager tends to scoop up all of those. One of the techs has a friend with a broker's license and they go to the auction every few weeks. I'm going to try to tag along next time they go.

This is very similar to the experience I had last night at a little lot that has a 128i on the lot. I parked in the middle of the lot in the Tundra and then looked over the car for 10 minutes and no one came out.
I left w/o talking to anyone. Fuck em.

Those little fill pieces are for badgeless grilles. Not sure WTF someone was thinking putting it over a badge. Just take out the fill piece. It's likely held in with two tiny screws.

Oh, I know. I nearly went that route with mine, debadge, boser hood, etc. It was all in the works, then I sold the damn thing.

You know, I remember very distinctly reasons for getting rid of almost all the cars I've owned. In hindsight, I don't fully remember why I got rid of the MKIV. Damn car was going to be a helluva money pit, for sure, but I really enjoyed driving it. I remember listing on fleaBay at the end of '08 for $5,750, got $5k from a guy named Kenny in Tallahassee FL. Picked him up from the bus station a couple miles from the car, handed stuff off, chatted with him a few times after. Maybe I ditched it over being a gas hog, or I was enamored with the steering wheel controls on the 4cyl manual MKV Jetta that replaced it?

And hear-hear on the VW stupidity. There's a reason - a laundry list of reasons, actually - I don't post on Vortex anymore. Cesspool.

 

I mostly regret every Toyota truck sale I’ve made (2 so far in my life). I have zero regrets on every other vehicle sale (two F150’s, one Corolla, one Prius, a gf’s Jetta)

I fixed one of the two regrets and I figure that 2000 Tacoma MT offroad xtracab got some hard miles out at ocotillo, not that I’ll ever be able to track it down. Plus I only had it 2 years and I always wanted a RC instead because the xtra was so small and the turn radius a bit more than I wanted.

I made a deal with future me to never sell a truck again without thinking long and hard about the decision.

I’m actually planning the next home purchase specifically for the ability to store more vehicles.

 

I believe "SHOITS" is more of a Long Island dialect.

"Cah keys" is best pronounced with a New England accent.

 

Honestly, the only vehicle I ever regretted selling was my '68 pickup, my 1st major LS swap. It's the only project I've ever sold unfinished, and I sold it because the 1st kid arrived and I made the mistake of massive project scope creep at a time when I was heavily understimating just how little free time I'd have with a newborn around. Roll that in with substantial depression at that time, and ... the rest is history. Only added insult to injury when the guy who bought it from me, someone I trusted at the time, tried to sell it back to me completed for more than 5x what I sold to him for, and I learned the father-son story about it being his son's 1st truck, and they were going to take it on the nat'l hot rod tour was totally fabricated, and I spent quite a while kicking myself after.

Smart man. I'd love to have more space for stuff. I think Noah can attest to the lack of space on our postage-stamp lot in the city. I don't love it because it's not conducive to having a boat nor any significant projects laying around, but it'll be a windfall eventually that'll pay for a property that'll offer all the things I lack today. Just gotta survive and be able to wrench for another 10 years....
