    Hi All,

    Per chatting with Colton (Hotshot Offroad) here are some sources to tap into to get the backlight wired up, with Violet being his first choice and Red being his second.

    Red = DRL high (+)
    Violet = Parking (LED DRL dimmed side) (+)
    Blue = High beam (+)
    Green = Low beam (+)
    Black = AUTO high beam ground (-)
    White = Main Assy ground (-)

    The functionality I want is to have the backlight on pretty much all the time. I also like to keep my light control stick in the AUTO mode pretty much all the time. Which one should I choose?

    Really excited to install these, just want to tap the correct wire and do it right once.

    Thanks,

    I used a mini “add a fuse” on the IGN fuse under the hood for mine. They come on any time the truck is on.

    Thanks Beau - can you provide instructions on how to do that?

    it would be nice to be able to turn off the backlight if you wanted to, but yes most of the time id like the back light on.

    What year is your truck? Mine is an 08, so it could be different.

    It's a 2021 Limited Crewmax.

    I think in general I'd just like to know what options I have to power the backlight on the DD SS3 Maxes and how to do it since electrical ain't my cup of tea.

    If I end up going the recommended route of tapping the parking or DRL wires, I just want to know what the differences would be considering my intended desired use stated in the initial post.

    Thanks for helping.

    Here's the add-a-fuse

    Basically allows current to go through both fuses from one port to two accessories (the original fused accessory + your added accessory)

    Yep^^This and just use it on the IGN fuse in the box. Basically, just wire both SS3 backlight wires to this add a fuse and your set. Its an easy job. You could add a stitch inline but that would require a bit more time, since you'd need to run the wire into the cab. Hope this helps!

    How did you end up wiring the backlight? I want it to function the same way you wanted.

    Did the "add a fuse" and plugged it into the IGN fuse. Worked perfectly. Backlight comes on anytime the truck is on and the fogs aren't. Love the fogs but the SS3 MAX's are so bright that people bright me quite often even though I have them angled down as much as possible... Still not sure what to do about it, until then I've been trying to flick them off when I see oncoming headlights like you would with brights but that is getting annoying.

    If you've got them aimed properly you shouldn't be getting flashed by oncoming traffic. The maxes have a pretty sharp cutoff up top so they shouldn't be blinding oncoming traffic. Take a look at this guide for proper aiming of those guys!

    If you are struggling to get the lights to aim down further try sliding them "back" a little bit. If you loosen the allen screws on the sides you can slide the SS3 back in the bracket which will give you more vertical flexibility.

    So, if we tap into the IGN fuse then the only way to turn the backlight off would be to pop the hood and pull the fuse out of the "add-a-fuse" accessory, right?

    Well, I installed them to the IGN fuse for now. I put a quick-connect under the hood in case I needed to quickly disconnect them for some reason.

    I got the DOT pro instead of the max...these lights are absolutely amazing. They light up the road so well, and the amber backlight is perfect. Shoutout to Hotshot Offroad for having a great sale and DD for the awesome product.
