Hey guys for the past couple of weeks I have notice a leak coming from my truck in the mornings. Later in the day, the fluid evaporates. The fluid is slick and I can't ID the color. I've been trying to trace out where it's coming from and I think I found it. Can you help me ID this part?

The circled part is a bolt that I think its seeping out of and the squiggly lines is running down the oil pan.

    Thanks

    Crankshaft seal?

Be very careful if you start messing with that bolt/ harmonic balancer so you don't screw up the timing.

The more I think about it and the more research that I'm reading. I think it's coolant coming from the water pump. Maybe coming from a weep hole?

The water pump does have a weep hole, yes. You could pull the serp and remove the timing covers and take a look inside for any signs of fluid. Might have to disconnect a cooler line though.

The truck is going into the shop for a timing belt and etc. It was done 10 years ago at 92K. I feel pretty confident its the water pump. Oil doesn't just evaporate.

I wanted to know what that area is called so I can have the mechanic look at it. I'll just have him inspect it, if possible.

I thought of you when I was replacing my water pump the other day and took some pictures. My water pump didn't have a leak, but there was some dried up coolant built up around the weep hole. Even though you said a shop's looking into it, this might help you visualize what's going on without tearing the truck apart:

Note, the water pump was not actively leaking.

Here's what shot looks like with the harmonic balancer off and black crank cover removed:

Dropped the truck off at the shop today for a timing belt. The mechanic said it was leaking from the water pump. I should get the truck back tomorrow.

Got the truck back from getting the timing belt done along all the other goodies that comes with it. It was leaking from water pump weep hole.

Valve covers are done, rear main seal is done. What else should she need?

They have enough of my money haha. I'm still waiting to hear back from them to make me a fuel tank for my Tacoma.
