Drove an extra 113 miles after the light came on, just filled up and it took 35.3 gallons. That was with an average fuel economy of 17.5 MPG so that's another confirmation that the low fuel light comes on with 6 gallons left or 32 gallons of fuel used from full.

I think for research purposes of this thread, someone should volunteer to run their truck out of fuel to see if the full 38 gallons is truly useable.

I know tonight & the time it took 37 gallons my butt was puckered hoping I didn't run out in the middle of nowhere.

There was a brave soul that did it a while back. I’m sure the post is still in the thread a few pages back. They got 38 gallons in

Trust the low fuel warning light... it comes on with 5-7 gallons remaining.

The Range calc is worthless. It is not dynamic in how it calculates your range. It uses a past average of ~X00 miles. It won't add miles when going from city miles to sudden highway driving.

I will say that the 38 gal fuel tank and the extended range is one of the most underrated features. Being able to go into the backcountry, drive to cheaper gas stations 20-30 miles down the interstate, etc... really pays dividends. One of the primary reasons I don't plan to move to the new gen anytime soon. That and turbos...

100% on the bigger tank. I lucked out when mine came with it, I didn’t even consider it until after signing papers. I really like having a realistic 32-36 gallons of usable fuel on board from the factory.

I love the 38 gallon tank. Just back from a trip to Gatlinburg TN and enjoyed making the trip without having to stop to fill up.
But now with gas going up like crazy, and the pumps around here shut off at $75 I have to start the purchase process over again to finish filling. I hope stations will up the max purchase so we can avoid this two purchases to fill the tank.
I'm in Ohio. Gas hit $3.79 a gal yesterday. It will be over $4 before we know it.

So far I haven't run into any pumps that wouldn't let me go over $100. I think my max has been around $110 so far. Regular here is now $4.69 to $4.99.

I'm rollin with a tank full of $3.59 from Friday. Everything is $4.19 tonight.

Anyone seen any "Buy 25 gal, get 5 free" deals lately?

I keep telling myself, "its nothing a little OT won't fix"

Also, I've really been taking advantage of the $10 off $50 gas card deals Publix runs occassionally. Got $200 worth of gas for $160 the other day. Last week that was two tanks, likely to be one here pretty soon.

I was told it's the debit/credit card that limits the total, not the station.

My credit union debit & credit cards allows $125
yet my regular bank debit card stops me at $100 at the same station.

    $119 this morning.

To add: with a 17.1 mpg average, the low fuel light came on just over 22 miles before I filled up and it took just over 29 gallons to fill. This was a first having the light come on at the 10 gallon level.

Hadn't thought about that but I know in my situation that isn't the case. Typically I always get gas at Costco except when we are traveling, during our last trip 4 weeks ago as gas prices were rising we got gas at a Costco before coming home and spent $111. The next day during our drive we stopped again at a BP and the pump stopped at $100, started it again and put another $10 in. Both times were with the same credit card so the only difference was the gas station. Since then I have put another tank of $117 in at our usual Costco without the pump stopping.

Costco might be in a different category according to your bank; not recognized as a gas station like normal gas only stations.

I actually asked the attendant at Costco about this. They told me if you use a debit card the pump shuts off at $100 but if you use a credit card it doesn’t shut off. I always use a debit card so I tested this and with a credit card the pump kept going beyond $100 and filled my truck up.

Never thought I'd see someone say they're happy to pay $3.67 for gas lol

That said Sam's has a great credit card that gives 5% back on gas anywhere.

In all seriousness gents 38 gal is basically a 31 gal fill up. However, filling up regular in our thirsty 3UR FE even at $4 gas compared to 93 which is around 4.70 or diesel at $5. So you get 25 percent better MPG while paying 15-20 percent more at the pump. This works when comparing against the new tundra, Chevy ZR2, Ford F-150 or F250 diesel, and the one outlier may be the GMC AT4 with diesel. Factor in the maintenance and reliability of the Tundra. You’re light years ahead in your 2.5 Gen if you can deal with dated technology. I prefer knobs and don’t really care about the touch screen or nav as I use my phone for that.
