How much over MSRP??

I was about to pull the trigger on a tundra when I got this message:

“Good Morning, I haven’t gotten a number on your trade yet but we can start with out the door pricing on the Tundra. Local customers pay $7,500 over msrp. Anyone south of us to New York pays $10,000 over. South of New York to and Including the Carolinas $15,000 over. South of there $20,000k over and anything further than that $25,000-$30,000 over. I can sell this truck all day long to customers at any of those prices. If you aren’t interested in paying $15,000 over that is fine I will have it sold by noon today.”

 

Salesman seems pretty cocky for a thief. My first instinct would be to tell him to GFY, but if you need the truck, assume the position.

Reply with:

"I can purchase any vehicle I choose by noon today, but food being on my table doesn't depend on it, so the out the door price I will pay will not be over MSRP. There is still extensive profit in the vehicle at that price, and I don't care how the paperwork is written so long as the MSRP from Toyota's official page is the OTD price. When you are ready to sell it, let me know."

 

If you aint keeping up with the Joneses then no need to ask about the Tundra. At least that's what Toyota told its customer base during Super Bowl this year. To be honest I wouldn't pull the trigger on anything at or above MSRP. Unless your going to be vehicle-less and have to buy one, then so be it. But just to keep up with the Joneses, hell no.

 

OP you should post the email on all of their review sites (it seems to be a big deal for them corporate wise) and ask if anyone should do business with these scumbags. Unbelievable…

 

I wouldn't deal with that guy if it was a good price; car salesman are a dime a dozen. Finding a Tundra at MSRP isn't that hard, just make a couple calls. These dealerships charging over are shady as hell. I left a negative review on Google for one and the owner replied spouting all sorts of lies as a reply to my comments. None of which were even remotely true, not even exaggerating the truth.

I would be less expensive to look out of state and fly when it comes time to pick it up IMO. I paid MSRP and no rediculous accessory mark ups either. I worked with Mankato Toyota in MN. Small dealer one hour south of MPLS. Gave me top dollar for my 16 CM. Ask for Lee Dady. Great guy and super resonsive. Another great outfit is one of the Luther Toyota's. I originally had a refundable deposit with them but ended up with a better match of what I wanted with Mankato. I have purchaed many Toyota's from them and they have been great. Many MN dealers not charging over MSRP or adding mark ups on accessories.

 

Email that to the guys over at TFL Truck mailto:ask@tfltruck.com. Make that thief famous

 

I paid MSRP across the border in Vermont. Tell that dealer to Get FKT.

 

I paid MSRP for a platinum 4x4 last week in South Carolina…

 

Leave the trucks on the lot when the dealers starve they will start to deal.

 

"Good morning. I can find a salesman at any Toyota dealership to the south, north, east or west of me. If you aren't interested in selling me a truck for MSRP, that is fine. I will have one purchased by noon today."

Just call him after noon and when the truck is still there ask if he's willing to pull his head out of his ass. You can even reassure him that his ears will only be cold for a minute, but he'll survive.

 

Good grief. All fun and games until the auto industry catches up and this dudes out of a job.

 

What’s the dealership and truck. I would like to call Monday to verify it’s been sold already.

 

There was a long time when vehicles were sold for $7-10k under msrp. If they can get it I wouldn’t fault them for it. But his attitude sucks. And if he could have sold it by noon he wouldn’t be wasting his time responding to just a “potential sale”.

It’s just a game. Some are better than others. I bet if you ignored the email and didn’t respond…in short time you’d get a “just checking to see if you’re still interested…”

 

Whatever you do, get your preapproval first. Lock in that rate if you're getting a loan before interest rates jump way up (if it does). My Navy Fed pre was good for 90 days if I had decided to back out, which I did for the first truck I had reserved.

 

House recently sold for $1.5 million OVER asking here in town. Largest over asking I’ve heard of in town but many went for several $100k over asking.
