TRD dual or aftermarket dual exhaust for SC/TRD CAI

Anyone has a magnuson superchager and TRD CAI in there 3rd gen Tundra 5.7? If so what exhaust and if duals are you running? Looking for an upgrade in performance but really just for the SOUND & FEEL of a superchaged V8.
Currently I have already placed and got the work order for a 2017 magnetic grey 5.7 Tundra crewmax Platinum edition 4x4, with factory installed TRD CAI and what ever comes with the Platinum package. Also working with Intense Maui Motorsport to do my custom build. What I have decided so far was:
*Magnuson supercharger
*12" bulletproof suspension lift
*2.5" Icon front coil overs
*(6) rear Icon resivor shocks with custom fab shock mounts
*BP billet clamps
*Fuel Moab 22x12 rims
*Nitto trail grappler 38x13.50x22
*AMP electronic steps
*Ruff Riderz fender flares
*T-Rex Billet grills
*Spyder front & rear HID lights
*Aries removable rear mud flaps
*Spray on bed liner
*Thule truck bed rack system
.....big question is what dual exhaust to run? I was quoted a Flowmaster Force2 dual exhaust rear exit. Looking again something with a little BALLS but not
irritating. Any help or advice to make my dream truck compete. PS. I had a TRD duals on my last 13' tundra and really liked it no issues at all, but seeing if theres anything better. Mahalos for your expert advice.

 

What did you end up doing? I had the TRD dual installed for about 2 weeks. It sounds awesome and is noticeably faster at WOT but wanted it a little quieter at highway cruising speeds. Since it is straight through mufflers with no baffles (two 6"x24") it seemed to lose a little low end torque from a full stop. It seemed to have to rev a little higher and be a little louder every time I started from a stop which REALLY annoyed my wife. I'm back to stock but am considering just changing the mufflers with some magnaflow with two mufflers (7"x24" or 6"x30") to lower the decibles at highway cruising speeds. Hopefully, that will not dampen the WOT giddyup that I enjoyed with the TRD dual mufflers.

Any opinions on my draft plan of attack?

 

Got the TRD dual exhaust and in Month installing Magnuson SuperCharger with BullyDog tuner. Also doing my BP 12" lift and the rest of my mods. I plan do do a muffler dump and use my TRD exhaust tips. Try to see if I can put 38" spare tire. If not plan "B"
As far as the noise mines is not loud but is noticeable, then again I only have less than 400 miles so far.

Yes I was thinking of using them. Ill run my TRD 1st and if not happy I can always switch

 

I ran the TRD Exhaust with my SC. You might want to speak with Keith at Dirty Deeds before you order anything. I know you didn't ask but I will say I have serious doubts the stock drivetrain will handle that lift/tires and SC. I predict bad-fantastic things happening. If it's going to be a trailer queen you'll be ok.

 

What are you going to do with your duals ?

I'm undecided if I'm going to sell them or alter them with the larger baffled mufflers locally. It is quite the delimna. Give up and sell them, cutting my losses...or spend more $$$ and see if I can alter them to make both me and the wife happy. Hmmmm

I'm wanting to keep the exhaust a true dual exhaust if possible, but that Flowmaster is a possibility.

 

@walter93, I'm not running a SC but I have the TRD duals. I didn't like the small amount of drone or the helicopter sound from the TRD exhaust. I had a local performance exhaust shop install a cross over pipe and it took care of all of my complaints. With the cross over it's pretty mellow until you get on it.

I would check into this if you want to keep the TRD dual setup.

 

Yes!! the helicopter sound of the exhaust resonating through the floorboard under the driver's feet! I've added 10mm foam sound deadening under the carpet and it lowered it a little bit, but not enough. Where exactly did they install the cross pipe?

 

I'll take a look and post some pics later this afternoon.

 

On other forums it is stating that an H pipe added to TRD exhaust stops the helicopter sound and adds back some low end torque. Is this true?

 

I didn't notice any difference. If there was an increase, it would be to small to "feel"

 

Cross over is between the mufflers and the exhaust manifolds.

 

Thanks. Is that welded into the TRD muffler assembled or the two separate pipes attached to the exhaust manifold?

 

This is welded onto the TRD section. It's only about 12 to 16 inches in front of the mufflers.

 

Thanks. Looks like you welded yours instead of using the flanges. I'm wanting to keep the flanges so that I can return to stock if I'm not completely happy with it. Looking to have a local shop fab the TRD section with an x-pipe and a pair of 7"x30" magnaflow baffled mufflers (not sure if they will fit since TRD is 6"x24"). Of course, this is based on my online research before I talk to the muffler expert. I'm thinking it will quiet it a little more than TRD mufflers and have enough restriction to retain some low end torque while having the ability to increase flow at highway speeds. Yes, I want to have my cake and eat it too.

 

Did you notice any overall reduction in sound with the crosspipe installation? I'd like it quieter overall. My wife and daughters have very delicate ears If this doesn't work I can either install 7"x24"or 7"x30" mufflers while a third option is a dual in/dual out SUV muffler (not my preferred choice).

Went to a local muffler shop yesterday and they said they could install one in the same location for $250-$275. Is that a decent price?

 

This is what is so great about this Fourm. I have been annoyed by that helicopter noise since I got this truck. I read on Tuesday about the crossover pipe and yesterday went to my local muffler shop showed them the picture of what I found on here. Took them about 1 hour cost 75.00 bucks and I feel like I am driving a different truck.

 

I got a quote today for $75 for the part and $75 for the labor. Where is that shop located that did it all for $75?

Also, did the overall sound level decrease? Did you notice any improvement on the low end torque (starting from a stand still)?

 

Had it done at Red Run exhaust in Ephrata Pa. I don't think it is quite as loud but not a whole lot of difference. As far as low end torque can't say I notice any difference at all.

 

Low end torque loss isn't noticed starting from a stand still.

Low end torque loss is noticed when cruising down the highway and your truck shifts between 5th-6th constantly back n forth because you have to step on the gas pedal hard enough to downshift just to keep the truck moving forward.

All tundras lose low end torque with stock exhaust manifolds and dual exhaust. And all tundras downshift back n forth as a result of this low end torque.

To alleviate this loss, we run an x pipe in our dual exhaust. It doesn't give it the low end torque of a single exhaust. But pretty close. And it fixes the helicopter sound you get by not having a crossover.

 

So in your opinion, do you think that running an H pipe and X pipe in tandem together will result in lower losses in the low end? I will be using your trd rep system with the trd tailpipes. I have an H pipe currently and running a dual exhaust with no rear cats. Low end loss is rather big lol.

 

So, is theres a truck that's for sale on e bay that's setup about the same.
