Did the 2015 SR5 TRD Off Road crewmax I just purchased come with a lift?

Like I said- I picked this up in December and immediately fell in love. Shortly after, I found this website and immediately developed something bordering an unhealthy obsession. I had a Tacoma previously, but I just wasn’t as in to it as I am with this.

There’s a million different ways you can mod these things and I’ve considered most of them.

So far all I’ve done is chrome delete a few emblems and added some black ecological shells.

That said I’m moving in to phase 2: “new tires and lift”. I know where I’m headed (285/75r18 on stock wheels or 35x12.5x18 stock wheel) but I don’t really know what I’m starting with.

I’ve added some pics and even have measurements. Any help is greatly appreciated.

[IMG][IMG]This is in the front (shes a used canada truck too with a lil bit of a scary patina)[IMG](yikes
    again)

    FROM THE BACK:
    [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
-All the blue splatter is from me trying to learn how to use a polisher. The truck came with fender flares {bushwackers with the chrome to be specific}and man did it leave some wicked scratches. Ill save that for another post.

    Lastly Some Measurements I took.
From the center of wheel, to beginning of body/Fender

Driverside Front: 25" Passenger Front: 25.5"

Rear Driver: 26" Passenger Rear: 26.5"

I really appreciate any help or discussion you.

    Thanks,
    Daniel.

Definitely some blocks back there. Cant go out and snag pictures right now because I dont have a garage, annnnd that could potentially freak some people to see a man with a flash going off under a truck in Burns, TN at 10pm. In all the measurements i took, back was consitently 1.5" higher. The truck also had one of these deals (pic included) so i imagine the guy was doing a good bit of towing and wanted the back to sit up more because of that, possibly?

From ground to fender both passenger and driver sides were 40" and the back was 41.5

maybe a 2" spacer and 2" block. ill get pics when i can.

    thank you for the help

    -Daniel.

Nice looking truck. Definitely a spacer lift in there. It might just be the angle of the photo but the angle of the shock absorber boot doesn’t line up with the angle of the hardware attaching it to the frame in one of the rear photos. I’d imagine there would be an immediately noticeable performance issue if it was, but it might be worth looking at closely.

tell me about it. The quality of the photo is hittin hard. Definitely some rust issues I’m going to have to address with this truck. It only has 60k on it. Not too bad for a 2015 but it was a Canada truck sooo yeah

Thanks man- that’s some really good info. I thought it looked a little funky myself, but I’m no mechanic by any means. I have noticed some issues I thought might be transmission related, I.e. a little jumpiness from stop to start. What type of performance issue should I be looking for?

Welcome to the club! Definitely a spacer lift. Also willing to bet whoever had it before you had aftermarket wheels and beefy tires considering the front fender liner is cut out. You should have no issues going to 35x12.5 or 285x75 with those factory wheels. Caution on the 35x12.5 though. Only certain brands will fit without using wheel spacers. The width of that size puts it VERY close to the UCA and sometimes hits it, again depending on the brand and model.

Negative... that fender liner being cut out is the handy work of me. I installed ecoological shells myself... and it was, shall we say, a learning experience/trial by fire BUT... the shells are on and the front fender line was cut to pieces. How important is that thing? Should I be rushing out to replace it?

Oh believe it’s bothering me too. Just been putting it off for a little because when I lost the fender liner, I also broke the little clips and other parts that I’ll need to remount. Shells have been on about 2 weeks now

Well I guess you made room for big tires then! I’m with T-Rex though. It would drive me crazy seeing that big hole in there.

Personally I would remove the Spacers and blocks and replace the Shock sets with Bilstein 6112 up front set at 3rd or 4th ring and coachbuilder shims 2 driver 1 passenger along with 5160 in the rear with Coach Builder or toytec shackles depending on the amount of lift you want. This setup is a good value plus performance

Not a mechanic here either. But I'd expect you to notice handling problems, a lean to the bed, bed bounce (more than the usual that tundras are kind of notorious for), alignment, tire wear, etc. If you don't have any of that, I'd guess it's probably fine.

If you're looking for new suspension, you can have a really nice "entry level" setup of new front coilovers (which are a significant improvement in ride to the spacers you have), and new rear shocks with shackles for about $1200. Certainly no more than $1500. Toytec, OME, Fox, Bilstein... It would maintain the 2-3" of lift you have and 285/75r18 tires would fit your stock wheels without the need for spacers or new Upper control arms. Moving to a 295/70r18 tire while being able to fit on your wheels, might give issues on the UCA and front sway bar depending on the tire brand.

Fluid Film. ESP under seat storage. LED interior lights and cargo lights swapped. Rear USB charger port swapped for 12v port. Remote start. Leather wrapped steering wheel kit. TRD shift knob. Powerstop z36 drilled slotted brake discs w/ceramic pads.
Typically for the jumpiness/jitter/hop from a stop to 5-10mph in the rear end, if you go over 1 inch (sometimes you even need it with 1 inch) of lift in the back you need a drive shaft carrier bearing spacer to align the universal joints up correctly. this can be trial and error as to what size spacer you need but you can temp do it with washers to figure out the thickness. its pretty easy to slide under undo one bolt partially and undo the other completely and add washers etc. you can also buy a cheap electronic angle finder on Amazon. that will help with the finding right angles of the driveline, they should match at each joint and there is good information on the forum about correct angles. there are also axle shims to angle the pumpkin up slightly. although you shouldnt install those on a block lift and they are really more for new leaf packs. I would start with washers on the carrier bearing for this specific issue. you may be able to find a local 4wd shop that can help if its something you dont want to mess with. I had a tacoma that it took me 5 or 6 tries to get the right angles as I was learning what I needed to do after the lift.

I stuck a go pro under the tacoma and saw the axle shake.

These are the two systems ive been torn between. I drove around all day today for and many of the issues seemed more pronounced. Definitely seeing the lean in the bed. ALso I noticed that the tire where the out of place shock absorber is, is much more worn down than the other tires.

Ive jumped all over the place, but i definitely know I want the blocks gone and replaced with a leaf of coachbuilder shackle (ideally 1" gained.)

For the front ive been looking at these upload_2022-3-25_21-28-6.jpg

The lift and the current shocks/uca/suspension all look like shit.

My issue has been trying to prioritize what to do first.

Seems lift (like one above or the others mentioned), tires, shackles/leafs all need to be done simultaneously.

Could I replace my current set up with the more cost effective toytec THU3 with cb shackles on the back then come back later and add new shocks? Seems like that wouldn't be too big of a deal.

The issue is just the money. I am married with 2 young sons and a girl coming in July. My wife is very pregnant and very unamused/interested in "sweet tundy mods" at the moment... but this battle is a noble one, gentlemen and I will prevail victorious.

Ultimately I want the truck to look like this guys

    upload_2022-3-25_21-49-48.jpg

But I really like the look the look of this one on 35's and stock wheels- would just want the set up to be more like the ones you guys mentioned earlier.
