That wasn't directed at anyone specifically. I have seen some posts on here (several by some forum members) absolutely admonishing this truck. I just don't get the obsession. If I absolutely dislike something, especially something I have no intention of purchasing, I make it a point to avoid any thought of it.

Psychology would tell us that it comes from either jealousy, or sexual frustration; but that's just science.

Correctly used: Joke, bad joke, items along those lines.

Incorrectly used and included with the words ‘no’ and/or ‘intended’: all sorts of things.

I will clarify what I meant above in case the correct usage of the word/phrase is the issue …which I know it isn’t: To the OP…he doesn’t need to worry that his review offended me and my answers were to vilify him or anyone else. As he posted his honest review I posted my honest experiences.

It's going to take a long time for 4 mpg (or less once you mod your truck some more) to make up for the $60k purchase price if your previous truck was paid off.

I moved up from a 2000 4RUNNER SR5 to my 2021 Tundra SR5 TRD. It got caught up in the steering recall so I was unable to take delivery until March 8th. My dealer called and offered me a 2022 SR5 so I could get into a Tundra a bit earlier and I turned him down. I’m not interested in all of the high tech features provided in the 2022, in fact I don’t use everything in my 2021 which is light years better than my old 4RUNNER. I wanted a solid reliable truck and my aversion to the 2022 is simply that it is too complicated for my tastes. Both are great vehicles and not everyone obsesses about hating the new look. I’m just not sold on the twin turbo V6, 10 speed auto or all of the new technology in a pickup. In all likelihood the 2022 will be more reliable than any of the other domestic pickups. Just get what you like and enjoy the ride.

It's definitely a "beauty is in the eye of beholder" situation. Personally, I have never owned a Tundra because I thought they were ugly and the interior was decades behind the competition. I loved the 22 first time I saw it. I've had it on the road for a couple weeks and get a ton of compliments, clearly many would disagree with you. Not saying either of us is wrong or right, it's just funny how different people see the same object.

That can't be a serious question. It's a truck forum. Specifically for Toyota Tundras. The biggest news of the last 3 years has been the insanely long buildup and long-awaited release of the 3rd gen Tundra. People are going to talk about it, both positively and negatively. I don't think anyone is obsessed either way. It's an impressive truck in some ways and a "really, that's it?!" truck in other ways.

I think what he and several other are getting at are the staunch opponents of the 22. I couldn't care less if someone likes my truck or not, but if you hate it, "will never own one", etc etc just go away. Why stay in the Gen 3 area to just bitch. They aren't contributing anything helpful and by their own words aren't looking to be swayed. Whether they own a Tundra or not, if you just keep popping up in threads to be negative, you are just a troll looking to get a rise from people. I think the other gen Tundras are ugly as hell but you won't see me in any of those threads.

Because, again, the build up was so ridiculously long, and lots of people are very frustratedly scratching their heads at decisions Toyota made with the new truck whether that's styling (why the mustache? why the TUNDRA chin tattoo???), shrinking the interior, doing away with a 6-seater option, the tiniest bump in payload imaginable when that was the 2nd biggest complaint of the 2nd gen behind fuel economy and arguably one of the top considerations when purchasing a truck, etc, etc. The 2nd gen debuted out front of the pack and has 15 years of extreme dependability under its belt whether anyone likes the way it looks or not.

I agree some are trolling. Trolls are best ignored. But some are just disappointed to the point of incredulity.

I hear ya, can't please everyone. I'll agree, Toyota certainly doesn't produce everything buyers would want, but don't like it, don't buy it and move along. Granted I'm new to the forum, but it hasn't taken me long to figure out the group of names I'll see bitching in every thread. All of them hate it and wouldn't own one if it was given to them, great see ya later

Take from a 2019 TRD Pro Owner whose 2022 Limited will be here within the next week.

    Pros of the 2019:
-Suspension - the Fox suspension is so damn smooth. I can take railroad crossings at speed and it won't knock your teeth out.
    -Sound - who doesn't love a V8?
-Looks - mine is black on black, and looks super nice when it's clean
-TRD wheels - I did not get the off-road package because I see that as money I don't need to spend. I have a lifted 2003 V8 4Runner for those off-road duties.

Cons of the 2019/advantages of the 2022:
-Suspension - this may seem odd as I just cited it as a "pro", but I also have a boat that weighs about 7500lbs including trailer/fluids/gear. It's soft and has negative rake due to the unloaded level stance it has. I've noticed a pogo affect at speed when hitting bridge crossings, bumps, etc. The 2022 having stock rake and hopefully stiffer suspension than my Pro should do better towing and not require aftermarket airbags.
-Black. Paint. - I'm personally a fan of white vehicles. I detail my own vehicles and black paint shows scratches and dirt so easily.
-Tech - I don't even have heated seats in my 2019. Not only heated, but ventilated seats are in the 2022, PVM camera system, wireless carplay (I won't lie, I have a Kenwood carplay unit in my 2019), rear seat under storage (wasted space in the 2.5 gen), and app remote start are a big plus.
-Power - torque. I need it. The V8 in my 2019 doesn't "struggle, but the combo of more torque and the 10 speed trans will be much appreciated.

All in all, I could keep my 2019. It's a CPO with 43k that has powertrain coverage until 2026. My main reasoning for the 2022 is the powertrain, tech, and suspension.

    .

This is exactly my point. It seems some here have made a hobby of complaining about this truck. I had an ‘18 Limited TRD Off-road CM that I loved! There are certain things that were far superior with that truck, and many things that are better with my ‘22.

The fact that you bought a Pro to tow and don't off road with it (and are now complaining about the fact that it's leveled from the factory) tells me what your opinion on trucks is worth.

The frustration and negative comments comes from us wanting the redesign to fulfill all of our hopes and dreams, and then being utterly disappointed in many regards. Oh how we wanted to love it. Might have been the first time I’d buy a brand new truck. The 3rd gen has definitely improved on many things such as fuel economy, power, comfort, and technology. Arguably not enough for the hype, but regardless they’re improvements. It appears to have given some things up in the truck functionality such as no tow hooks, a more shallow bed, a smaller cab, larger turning circle and having strangely integrated car-like front and rear bumpers. Looks are polarizing.

It’s hard to beat the reliability good old V8 for high stress truck duty as well, but no point in even arguing that since they’re a dying breed due to the emissions regulations and fuel economy standards. I hope the new ttv6 proves to be reliable over the coming years. I’m sure due to all of our whining Toyota may address some of the issues on future refreshes.

I'm hard pressed to believe someone high enough in Toyota to be able to modify the design peruses this forum or cares what a few thousand enthusiasts think about the truck. As long as they keep selling as many as they can build and ship, what's their incentive to change anything?

Had a chance to do a side by side comparison with my 2017 TRD pro and a 2022 Platinum with the TRD package.

General consensus between myself and the other owner was that the body and stance and exterior look of the 2.5 gen was overall better than the 3.0, but the new generation has a much better interior and dash layout. What was very surprising was the backseat of my double cab did not seem that much smaller than his crewmax.

Depending on the grill and color scheme the front of the 2022 is not all that bad. But I felt the same way about the past generation, the only front end I liked was the TRD pro.

Seeing the truck in real life I really do not like the way they pinch the body work in above the wheel wells. I like the fender flare but when I don't like is how the top of the wheel well pinches in from the body and then out to the flare. Very unappealing. I also think the tailgate stamping is dumb.

I hope this new Tundra will draw more into the Toyota family and many people will love and enjoy their trucks, but I'm 150% satisfied with my 2017 TRD pro and will keep it without a second to throw it or ounce of regret.

I've also decided that I'm going to upgrade the audio system to a widescreen. I already have a new center console you know that silver Wing thing. I'm going to paint it matte black and then install the new head unit into it and probably swap them out this summer.

Just have to look up those threads I've seen a couple units that look excellent retain all the functions with adapters, and fill the entire section.

Well some of them are dumb.

Consider all the stupid shit they do to a truck after buying it:

Big stupid wheels that increase rotational mass, killing acceleration, handling and fuel efficiency, while also sucking a bag of dicks off road. Looking cool is more important!

Leveling kits to take the carefully engineered functional stance of the truck and change it for looks. It squats the rear end down under a load and takes some weight off the steer axle so the truck is less safe, but hey it looks cool according to some.

Lift kits. Sorry most of them are pointless considering the truck will still spend 99% of its time on the road not off the road.

The list could go on for days. A lot of truck buyers do a pretty good job of making their trucks worse than the factory built them.

Well there are a few reasons.

1.) They know deep down they settled for an inferior outdated product because they lacked the self discipline to wait. This would be the 2020-2021 owners who are haters. They need to run down the new truck to justify buying an outdated product in their own minds. The 2022 Tundra gets to live rent free in their heads until they can afford to buy a 3rd Gen. Since they’re bad at money and buy impulsively this will take them years to not be upside down in the 2.5 Gen’s they paid way too much for.

2.) They’ve been waiting for 10 years for a new Tundra and don’t like what they are being offered. These are the opposite of group 1. Most of them can pay cash for anything they want, and they wanted to like the new Tundra but don’t. So they’re pissed off, and are working through the stages of grief before buying one anyway or moving to a different brand.

No one who is truly happy with their 2.5 Gen is even giving a second thought to a 3rd Gen or the existence thereof. They’re just living life and doing their thing. I was the same way when the 2.5 Gen came out, totally ambivalent. My 2007 was still more than keeping me happy, and I had no specific thoughts on the 2.5 Gen aside from noting a change in the sheet metal. I drove my uncle’s 2.5 Gen last year and it drove the same as my 2nd Gen, no complaints but also no lasting impression.

Maybe you’re right. As a consumer all I can do is choose not to vote for Toyota’s ignorance with MY money. I will not.
