"Hey Toyota" (pun intended) if you are monitoring these forums and reading this post please get rid of the chrome moustache and offer the front end colour matched to the body colour. The majority of owners want a cleaner looking front end, early adopters are already looking for a chrome delete to improve the look, this should tell you something. Some dealers are offering this service! Better yet change the front end of the Tundra to match the 2023 Sequioa (same drivetrain and presumably the same cooling requirements), it just looks better. Also remove the chrome handles on all trims, make them body coloured and change the window trim to black.

I currently have a 2021 Tundra and I really would like a 2022+ Tundra from the TNGA platform, I have faith that Toyota's heritage and mantra of quality, durability and reliability will continue with the redesign but fix the front end and other chrome accents or at least offer a factory solution. I can't understand why a factory lift would be offered to consumers as an option but you can't order a body coloured front end beyond the TRD Sport. Offer chrome as an option (front end moustache, door handles, and window trim) and body coloured door handles and front end with black window trim as standard equipment.

This is just my 2 cents but honestly it's what's holding me back from ordering a 2022/2023 Tundra. Fingers crossed the 2023 includes these changes????

Bravo, couldn't have written it better.

Suspect that they aren't listening, we shall see.

I would add that for those of us who already purchased. They should offer a free swap out with a paint match or black mustache.

who ever designed the mustache and color should be reassigned to another department.

I feel like they are offering the factory lift because the 22s look as though they sit lower than previous generations…saw a Platinum 4x4 in the wild today and thought WTF happened here? This will really drive aftermarket lift and wheel sales for the 3rd Gen.

I'd add tow hooks for, at least, off road packages.

Also, subscriptions for connected services and YOUR navigation system for a truck costing north of $50K is bullshit.

And if you're going to design a rear bumper in the jacked up, useless way you did, bed steps should be a standard feature, not a $340~400 (per side) accessory.

When you refresh the Gen 3 with the 3.5 in 7 to 10 years, consider designing a truck instead of a luxury SUV with a plastic truck bed slapped on it.

(Keep them coil springs though; the ride is pretty bad ass.)

Yeah they look weird stock. Saw a 1794 in person and it just felt off.

Oh and the chrome EVERYWHERE was hideous. +1 on replacing the department head who approved the truck styling.

Surprisingly some like chrome accent (not me). I think they use it as a way to guide you to higher-end, more expensive models. The pro will have no or minimal chrome. For those of us that don't like it or don't buy the models without chrome they still got you cause you already bought the truck.cwe'll spend our own money to fix the problem.

Dude it was everywhere. Even in the stamped lettering in the tailgate.

Looked awful especially at high 60s low 70s $$$. There has to be a better way.

Landover aren't plastered in chrome and you know that's money just by the styling.

You can tell which auto makers are disconnected with some old dude hanging on to 1980 styling ques and who isn't. Just my .02

Auto manufacturers are stuck in the past in surprising little ways.
    • Toyota: Completely updates a 14 year old platform with new drivetrain & interior technology.
    • Also Toyota: "Let's add a $hit tone of chrome because, as everyone knows....chrome means 'expensive' and 'luxury!"
Like the 1794 as amazing luxury but all I see is the chrome...everywhere. It's also another reason why I opt'd for the SR5 OR over the Limited OR...fewer places to de-chrome. Grill & bumper...that's it. No chrome pillars, badges, or door handles to contend with.

That being said, the chrome-stache doesn't bother me as much as it used to. Spending the $400 to wrap the 'stache & bumper has gone from being "this must change this immediately" to "eh, I'll get around to it soon enough." I'm going to wait to see what bumper options hit the market by the end of the year. No sense in spending $$ to wrap something that I'm just going to chop off anyways.

I actually love the chrome on my 1794. To each their own.

My biggest "beef" with the styling isn't really the chrome vs body color. It's the shear amount of mixed material finishes on many of the trims.

The Limited is probably the worst offender:
    • "Brushed aluminum" (aka matte plastic) front grill stache - This is the oddest choice. Why mixed this finish & the chrome???
    • Chrome grill Toyota "T", badges, handles (including tailgate handle), window trim, rear bumper
    • Black fender trim
The Platinum is the least "mixed" (TRD Pro excluded) but you can't get it with the TRD OR package, sadly.

Although I agree with OP. It's irritating that most manufacturers equate chrome with luxury trim models. Maybe I just want the nice leather heated/cooled seats and upgraded stereo without the rest of the vehicle looking like it drove through a box of Autozone clearance rack add-ons?

I mentioned to the Toyota I don't not why I hate the chrome so much.
He stated it was because I do not have a vagina and I'm under the age of 90 as the reason I do not like the chrome.
I guess Toyota is marketing the chrome package to overly effeminate men. ;)
I just wish they made the chrome as an add on, not a standard package.

I'm thinking more and more the only way I'll buy a 3rd gen Tundra later on down the road is if they offer a heavy duty payload package like Ford and GM do on their half tons. They both have 4x4 crewcab half tons with over 2k lbs of payload. Here we are with 1300 lb of payload on 4x4 crew cab door jambs, when FOR 15 YEARS this was the second biggest complaint of the 2nd gen Tundra (behind fuel economy).

It could have 3 mustaches, and I'd still buy the new Tundra if it has a heavy duty payload package that allows it to compete with the one-ton capable domestic 1500s.

I really, really, really hope someone at Toyota reads this.

What I learned from this thread:

    1. Don't buy a 3rd gen Tundra (already knew this as soon as the turbo turd v6 was confirmed)
    1. Chrome is awesome, and some people just can't handle the shine
    2. The 2022 is ugly, lower to the ground, terribly designed in just about every way, and is barely still a truck with its rear coil springs, tiny payload, and plastic bed.
    3. Some folks think color matched bodies are not common, boring, and don't blend into the background of every other lame ass vehicle on the road.
Whatever makes you happy, you all do you :hattip:

Clearly you anti chrome guys are in the vocal minority as they focus test most of this stuff and the vast majority of us like it.
It does NOT look like it drove through the plastic chrome section of autozone. (but that is funny )
Just like your color matched every body part doesn't look like common boring blended into the background low class every truck.

    I'd rather we focus on things that actually matter like;
    Poor engine choice.
    Poor mpg.
    Poor Q/A
    Poor payload.
    Smaller interior/rear leg room.
    Poor/no backseat storage.
Subscriptions to use the truck you "bought".
    Awful styling all around.
Useless panoramic sun roofs. (This is not an aquarium its a truck, we do truck shit, we don't need more useless heavy glass that does nothing of value)

Chrome or no chrome, "Hey Toyota, can you tell us how many trucks are/will be affected by the wastegate issue?" would be more meaningful.

    It's alive!!!

Turns out they ended up replacing the engines and not the chrome.

Who would of figured the Baby Duramax 1/2 ton was the overwhelming superior choice:anonymous:

Just think of all the people who have purchased the 2022 to 2024 Tundra already and spent money to change the front end look (myself included). Now in some cases that is making Toyota some extra cash in parts that they would not have sold otherwise. Some bean counter may have figured this out in the beginning.
