This made me realize I need to start changing the oil on the Rav4 every 3k. I normally do it every 4,000.

Wait..what?!? I think I'm screwed with my 5 mile trek to work and back. My oil doesn't really get dark until about 4-5K though.

I should claify. It’s more of an issue with oil you get from quick lube places or the dealer

I plugged the stake pokey holes in the bed. Less wind getting in now. Also helps with the dust.. need a tailgate seal still

Cover was in the way of my fitting on the ARB, so that’s gone now. Working on this rear skid / tank mount. That shot is a tease, doesn’t show much.

Been soaking the two snapped valve cover bolts in Kroil, and also hammering them here and there. Gave it a shot with some free time I had last night and failed. Hit it with a map torch today a couple of times, and to my amazement these things will not budge! Either going to have my bud weld a nut on it, or chop it off and drill it. Really trying to avoid the drilling it route, bc I don't want to mess up the threads .

Also, finally installed proper clamps to the cap. Less shit to hang up on things.

Much better @FrenchToasty , that's something I'll be sad to miss. Unless the wife lets me take the 4 y/o. Then again, probably no chance I get my shocks by then, lol. The long long long wait continues.

I will keep trying, I don't know that she trusts me to handle the food stuff but I honestly think the 4 y/o would be way easier than the 6 and also his school is far less important vs real life experiences.
My 6 y/o is the animated one though, just that he has events towards the end of the week and semi real school.
The wife also thinks I'm dumb. "Why would you take your old POS truck camping and risk breaking down when you have a newer truck". I don't think she realizes that we're creeping up on an inflection point of new parts outnumbering the old ones...

I have the same sentiment about school vs real life experiences. My mom is always like your taking him out of school for that? Whats he doing that week; He is gluing rocks to paper, yes I’m taking him out

It’s like R&D, sometimes you have to start all over. The underwriters laboratory didn’t like the color of the wires next to the contrasting contractor, visual safety reasons……..

Sucks about all the problems man. Wish I had a suggestion, but if you've busted out the MAP and got that red hot, then hit it with penetrant, and it's still not cranking out after a couple of cycles.... that's insane.

The accurately identified "piece of metal" by @shifty` is starting to take shape. Needs bushings, 2 more pipe clamps, some better sized bolts, some radius/corner softening and some other things. A fair amount of drilling but mostly cut-off wheel grinding today. And tapping.

The drivers side with the offset license plate was fine because I ran the plate lower to catch the frame for the lic plate. The hitch plate was holding the passenger side down - needed a relief. Not as much as I put it turns out, but it's good.

Added a maxxair fan to my shell. I havent been able to camp much, been busy with work but figured Id treat myself to some decent airflow when I do hopefully get out camping more this summer. Seems to move a ton of air and is pretty inconspicuous having a white cover on a white shell. Barely fit though with my solar panel being up there as well.

When I did my valve cover gaskets at 212k miles, the valve train and covers were all
Shiny and clean. A little heat discoloration by the drivers side rear cylinders. Conventional oil tends to discolor internals like that. I’ve run full synth at 10k intervals since 100k miles. Not sure what PO ran. What oil are you running?
