    Hey guys,

Use this process to track your build/VIN accurately without going through a dealer, this will work for other Toyota models as well. My salesman called me immediately after I told him my truck was loaded onto the transport vehicle today, puzzled as to how I knew before his sales manager notified him. I kept this page open on my laptop and refreshed it every morning for updates.

*This only worked on the desktop version of google chrome for me.

    1. Open google chrome and paste this into the address box: https://guest.dealer.toyota.com/v-spec/JTMB6RFV5ND522881/detail

    2. Replace the VIN from step one with your VIN and reload the page, you should see a render of your vehicle (note: if the last six of the VIN contain a letter, it is a temporary VIN and will be replaced by a new VIN after assembly). This process works with both the temp VIN and final VIN.

    3. Right-click the page and click inspect. This will open up a page on the right side of the current page.

    Screen Shot 2022-03-16 at 9.02.37 PM.jpg

    4. At the top of the page that opens up, Elements will be selected, to the right you will see two arrows. Click the arrows to open a drop-down menu and click Network.

    Screen Shot 2022-03-16 at 8.46.47 PM.jpg

    5. Paste your VIN in the search bar on the Network page

    Screen Shot 2022-03-16 at 8.50.38 PM.jpg

    6. You should see the box below populate with several lines. The second or third is the one you want. If nothing populates reload the page. Click line two or three (they are both the same).

    Screen Shot 2022-03-16 at 8.53.26 PM.jpg

    7. Once you've selected one of those lines, all of the information you have a hard time getting from your salesman will be at your fingertips and refreshed daily by Toyota.

This worked great for me and I hope it can help some of you too

    Cheers

    Thanks for posting this.

I can confirm this works. Tried on a random inventory that was listed in-transit. Shows the estimated ETA.

It does not work on some cars or trucks likely eta being too far out.

Yeah. This process has been floating around on Reddit for awhile. I know a bunch of RAV4 fans have used it to track their RAV4 Prime allocations. That thing is crazy BTW (for a crossover).

It only works once the vehicle has been assigned it’s actual (production) VIN. Temp VINs that are just allocation “placeholders” for dealerships don’t work with this system.

This worked with my placeholder VIN all the way up until it went into assembly "A" status. Once it had been built, it disappeared from the Toyota website and the dealership website. Once the dealership website polled (usually overnight) I then found the production VIN back on the dealer website, (search for the exact same build/dollar amount) pasted it back into the Toyota site where it remained in "A" status until it switched to freight "F" status.

What does dealercategory "A: mean? Allocated? or Assembly?

I believe it stands for assembly based on how mine went through. What is your ETA date range?

Do you still have a letter in the last 6 of your VIN? If so, it should update early next week, you'll be assigned your final VIN and the ETA will update as well. For reference, my trucks ETA was moved up several times throughout the process which was not what I expected.

*This is all coming from watching my truck go through the process. Other trims could be facing delays that I am unaware of.

Yes, I still have the temp VIN. So, you are thinking I am in assembly status now? Mine is a 1794. It was originally scheduled for the first week of March and has pushed twice to the third week. I'll be excited to know it is being built this week. Thanks,

Yep, we're tracking my wife's 2022 4Runner TRD Sport as it makes its way here. Is in 'F' status, and ETA is currently 5-11 April. :)

How do you get the final VIN by having only the temporary one?

I don't think I did; I believe my wife was given the final VIN by our dealer.

I found mine on the dealer website roughly 24 hours after I couldn't track the temporary VIN anymore using this method, searched for my exact build/MSRP. Once the vehicle is assembled it will be assigned its production VIN and will be back on your dealers website by the next day.

Did you just search their new inventory and it shows up there? I see a lot on dealer websites that show "this vehicle is in transit", so assuming that's how you're finding it?

Yea, mine disappeared from my dealers website for a bit then I found it again the next day (exact same price/specs) with it's production VIN.

Where do you get your VIN from, I put my order in back in January (2 Vehicles Tundra and RAV4), haven't heard anything back.
The sales guy said 3-4 month waiting period. Do you think I should stop by the dealership and talk to the guy or give it another month?

"Where do you get your VIN from, I put my order in back in January"

You didn't order a truck. You can't. You can take a truck the dealer had or will have allocated. May be the reason you haven't gotten a VIN by now. You were mislead if you thought you custom ordered a truck.

Are you able to find your exact builds on the dealers webpage? If they've been allocated they should certainly be in the system by now.

I've been visiting the dealer's website and haven't seen the exact truck I "ordered", is this something I should be doing, checking the website until something I requested appears?

Your dealer is just hoping they get an allocation that matches your requirements or comes close enough to them to land you on a vehicle they get allocated. The ETA they gave you could be a lot longer depending on how specific your build was.

That's awesome, thank you for this. Mine shows as "A" with no ETA and had a build date of 3/24. Guessing that means assembly.....

My truck had a build date of 3/14, had been showing Dealer category "A", no ETA for the last month. This afternoon the temporary VIN is no longer valid.

I’ll be checking dealer web page for the truck to appear, then track the permanent VIN for delivery. Hoping the dealer delivery is 2-3 weeks.

Exactly.....the dealership has to have an equivalent allocation to swap for a build. They trade Toyota the allocation for the order.
But even then its not exactly what you request, (it can be), but its the closest truck Toyota has on their list that matches what you want.

Nice! You are close, keep us updated. My truck was little under four weeks from assembly to delivery, I’m in the PNW.

I know there's "A" for assembly and "F" for freight. I'm curious what other category codes there are...

More specifically if it switches from "F" to another code once it's loaded on a truck after it's unloaded from rail.

I was surprised I couldn't find all of the category codes online somewhere. There's the two you mentioned and then "G" for ground once it's been dropped at the dealership and invoiced.

The truck shows up on the dealer website now, with permanent VIN. The dealer stock number is actually the last 8 digits of the temporary VIN.
