So, Toyota is going to charge you $150 for a part you have to have to mount a $250 part that should've come standard with the truck because of they way they screwed up the rear bumper design?

Once it's installed, do you have to pay a subscription fee to be able to use it?

I'll be installing it tonight. I'm told it's easier if you pop off the rear bumper trim piece (that chrome one that everyone hates) so your hands have more room. Then it's three bolts to the bumper area. Then the two bolts go into the bracket from the top and then it's tightened down. I'll report back after I get it on.

Awesome, looking forward to the result.
Shucks, i had already popped off the chrome trim pieces to plasti-dip them black, if only i had waited to knock out the step install altogether. FYI, taking out the chrome pieces is kinda a pain. Here is my related post explaining where the push clips are if it helps in any way when you're installing.

I will be watching for ARB, Toytec, etc. to come up with some suspension kits to handle the extra weight.

Amp Research emailed back that Bed Step for 22 Tundra is on their list but it will be a ways off and to check their site for updates re: new products. I checked with my dealer today when I was picking up some touch up paint and he said that the factory was still not letting him even place an order for a bed step. I feel lucky that I was able to get the TRD running boards.

Agree 100%! This was either a colossal blunder, bad market research or an effort to nickel and dime customers. "Oh, would you like wicks with your candles?"

I hope that the electric bed step will be available as bolt-on accessory or that for 2023 they just include it on all models.

I was thinking this too, but was told by the service guy it might not be depending on the wiring harness and exact length for when they retract and extend etc..... Might not be exactly the same.

    That looks really good actually.

I’m one of those that like the front end of the truck (especially in person) and this maintains that but adds functionality.

Alright. So the bedstep install isn't bad if you have instructions. I could probably do it in 10-15 minutes now that I know.

You'll need to remove the bracket circled. It's a 10mm nut up top and a pop rivet on the bottom.
The bracket slides into the bumper channel and three bolts to secure the bracket (14mm)

Then the step itself mounts to the bracket with bolts from the top (15mm).

Anybody have torque specs on the bed step? I went in to the dealership yesterday to the installation guide, but they couldn't find it.

Seems like Toyota needs to train people more. If they had access to TiS. They should be able to look it up. Or they didn’t want to give it out so they can install it for a price.

I am probably not the first to do this. This topper was made for an F-150 (I think) so it was a tough fit on the Tundra's wider and longer bed. Had to remove the side Toyota utility tracks as I didn't have the optional utility clamps.

It works. I'm 270lbs and it didn't feel weak or anything. Had an AMP one on my Ram previous to my Tundra and it looks almost identical.

Question. I tried ordering the actual 'step part' of the assembly from Sparks Parts but they cancelled it saying it wasnt available. Where did you order yours?

Here is what the drains look like. They are in the front of the bed and block the 2 inner most drain holes and prevents the water from draining. I also included a pic of the rail. To install the cover, you remove the rail and the cover brackets use the rail bolt holes. Then the rails attach to the brackets of the cover. This lowers and moves the rails out a bit. So far I like it. It is not 100% water proof, so don't keep your important documents back there, but normal back of the truck gear will do fine. I tested and it is really easy to open the cover if you know where the release cables are located. It just takes an old hanger or a locksmith slimjim. I didn't attempt prying it, but its probably not to difficult to pry it open. The only issue I had was the side release buckles were broken out of the box. The Toyota dealer I purchased the cover from replaced them without issue, but they look really weak and are likely to break easily. They are used to hold the cover in the fully folded position.

Just checked with the Bestop site re: the TrekStep for the 2022. Chat rep said they are testing it next week and thinks it will be available in about one month. The TrekStep for the 2021 Tundra is $220. Does anyone have experience with this brand?

thanks for the info! Does the top have a glossy finish, matte finish or more like a bed spray-in liner finish?

The OEM top has a smooth Matte finish…not the rough spray in bed liner texture.

I believe Rough Country’s 22 Tonneau has a more glossy finish and the MX 4’s used to have both options available for the 2nd gens I believe…not sure if that choice is available for their new 22 covers

Has anyone ordered running boards from go rhino yet? Website shows rb10 and tv 20 available but every other rep I’ve spoken to has said they aren’t available and it’s a glitch in the system. The other half says ready to order and will ship end of the month.
