Permanent or temporary? Temporary, a simple ratcheting tie down strap to the bed anchors.

Ratchet strap to bed anchor and thru handle. Same for propane tanks, coolers etc. I have tried the wood system but always seem to be taking it out to use the bed so I gave that one up.

What would be cool is if the manufacturer would integrate a flat-folding panel in the floor of the bed…raise it up and lower it when not needed. I know, cost. But hey, the domestics have tailgate step ladders and integrated bumper steps, and yet Toyota seems to be going the other way with the new ‘22. Oh and that janky looking, hang down, under the bumper step is a no go.

I use a piece of #6 ground wire that I run through the handles of the cans and then back to the bed rail tie down. Keeps them from tipping over or moving around even on the woods roads I hunt on.
Also use a similar wood rack for the 50# propane tanks to tilt the neck/relief valve up and keeps the tank from rolling around since I have a cap and can't stand them up.

    !!! ignorant moron alert !!!!

I have a dumb question: if you need to fill your truck from a regular gas can, do you need some kind of attachment to get the gas in the filler?

    thank you for your patience.

Depends on the gas cans. A lot of them have stupid safety devices which cause more problems than they fix.

In my experience, I'm a big fan of the VP cans but their legality as a gas can is questionable in some jurisdictions. A filler neck like the one pictured below will fill your truck without making a mess. The filler neck is easily replaceable with bulk hose as well. When it slows down emptying in your truck, open up the vent.
