Bought it the other day, 1st truck I've ever owned. I have owned XJs and Outbacks all my life and always loved these 1st gens. I searched for about a year, drove hundreds of miles to look over possible buys and each time uncovered major issues, mainly dealers trying to paint over rust. This frame is gorgeous, was the main reason i bought it.

Modest plans for now. I spend a lot of time on forest roads for my day job (and fun) and don't need the 2" leveling kit, so that'll be the first to go but eventually a mid rise topper and sleeping/work buildout in the bed is the goal. It's at 175k miles, so plenty of life to go. 1st limited trim I've seen with no sunroof, no heated seats, nothing but leather and power driver seat. no gripes, just 1st time I've seen that.

    Initial repairs:
    - CV boots are split wide open
    - valve cover gaskets leaking
    - power steering rack (possibly)
    - replace rotors and pads (I should research on how to upgrade them)
    - repair driver seat and condition leather
    - headlight restoration
    - repair/replace power side view mirrors
    - remove leveling kit, alignment

    additions:
    - tint windows

not concerned about the body damage (sizeable dent on right rear panel above wheel well), the previous owner had a quote for $2200 to replace the rear panel and other dings, but i could care less

tires are great, major repairs have been done around 120k.

This is my 2002 Tundra. Bought it brand new. It is used for light utility work for our rental home business. The interior has had seat covers since it was new, the one on the passenger seat finally fell apart. Seats are still like new. It has 106K miles and is a very nice truck. I have never had a problem with it in the last 20 years. The only unfortunate thing is that frame is rusted real bad:/

Frame replacement is covered by Toyota for 2000-2002 if you live in northern states

Need to jump on getting that frame rust dealt with by Toyota.
Go to your local Toyota dealer and have them inspect. Had mine replaced 7/2021
Another member had his done sometime around November last year as well.
Can you grab some pics of the mounting points of the spare tire crossmember.
Near this area at all 4 corners of the crossmember

Here's my 2000 Tundra AC SR5 (173K miles) purchased brand new in December 1999. 16x8 OEM wheels, machined and painted black with Milestar 265/75/R16 M/T tires.

New weekend rig/ daily until i get around to getting a new car for work in the next couple months. Bought new by my dad back in late 04. Its a 2005 with about 160k on it. Definitely has some cosmetic stuff that needs to be taken care of but not a huge concern for me right now. Have all new suspension ready for it. Just waiting on shocks and time to install.20220213_102945.jpg 20220213_103204.jpg

Beautiful area. Which vehicle would you keep if you had to get rid of one? I've wanted to get a GX for a few years now.

Montana is definitely beautiful! If I had to get rid of one and keep one, I think I would honestly keep the GX. I say this because it suits me and the things I do very well plus it’s super comfortable and capable so that’s a win
