    Hey fellow Tundra Fanatics,
I’ve been scouring Tundras.com for the past several months and thought I’d share with you the project I’ve been working on. I bought my Tundra SR5 Access Cab 4x4 in March of 2002, just a few months after 9/11. Only putting 5k/yr on her. I passed the truck on to our son in 2017, after 15 years. He’s currently serving in the US Army with 1st Battalion 34th Infantry in Iraq and we’re keeping the Tundra while he’s deployed.
For the Tundra’s 20th birthday, we we decided to give her a facelift and surprise our son upon his return:) I essentially started from the top with a “chrome out” package, all new replacement parts, paint and body work:
    1. Matte black OEM front bumper, matte black grille, fog and headlamp assemblies
    2. Weather Tech hood shield
    3. Windshield and wiper blades
    4. Matte black painted OEM wheel flares
    5. Matte black painted OEM door handles
    6. Matte black painted OEM side mirrors
    7. Matte black painted rear bumper
    8. 2021 Taco wheels
    9. Raptor 4” side steps
    10. Bed rails and tailgate cap
    11. Access tonneau cover-purchased replacement vinyl for the original 2002 cover! USA quality!
    12. Line-X bed liner, new bed bolts and bed tie downs.
    13. Bilstein 5100s with 2” leveling lift
    14. Borla exhaust
    15. Nackamichi receiver with Alpine speakers
    16. Complete ADM Star LED bulb installation inside and our
    17. Weather Tech floor mats
After three months, the project is close to being wrapped up. Huge props to Coal Creek Paint, Johns 4x4 and Line-X Boulder for making our son’s 1st Gen Tundra better than new!

    Very nice!

My father recently surprised me by giving me his 2001 AC Limited 4x4. it only has 47k miles. Big difference is the exterior has been neglected so I am now embarking on a similar and expensive facelift project with the intention of passing the vehicle on to one of my children some day. They'll have to fight for it!

I would appreciate it if you could clarify a few things for me.

    1. Can you provide more details on the LED lighting you installed? I'm looking to replace all lighting especially interior lights
    2. I looked at 4" Raptor side steps on the Realtruck.com website which states "Will not work with OEM Mud flaps" Was it an issue for you?
3 Can you share the model number and specs for the Taco Wheels you installed?
    4. Did you replace the stereo speakers

    Before:Image_7.jpg

    After: Stay tuned...

You’ll have a gem when she is all done! Here are the answers to your questions:

    1. Here are links to the LED bulbs I purchased on Amazon (based upon feedback from Tundras.com posters)

Headlamps-these Sylvania LED headlamp and fogs are decent for the money, $200 for both.

    2. I installed the Raptor side steps in under an hour. There was no issue with the front mud flaps interfering. About an inch clearance on my 2002 Tundra SR5 AC with off-road package.
    3. Here is link to the OEM Wheels (check eBay or FB Marketplace for inexpensive takeoffs for sale):

I had that led blinker assembly and it only lasted about a year for me. Went with the fancy diode dynamics one on the truck, and the cheap one on the car. Both work gud...

The one you have linked worked gud until it didn't. I thought I had a wiring problem it got so annoying! Intermittent worky work

Good to know and bummer! The relays in and I’ll post an update if/when it fails.

Truck looks real nice. Getting a nice refresh. Welcome to the forum!
How many miles on it now?
I also bought one of the cheap ones for my Lexus (almost identical part as tundra) only lasted about a year for me as well then stopped flashing. Go diode dynamics.

Thanks! She has 167,000 miles and turns 20 yo on March 17th. Will keep the Diode Dynamics in mind when this relay goes…

    Thanks for that info!

I have another question. When your OEM door handles were re-painted, were the backing seals/gaskets still in good shape or did they have to be replaced? My door handles are in good shape and will be re-painted as well but the paint shop I'm using has raised concern that the backing seals will be either cracked or brittle. I don't believe the seals can be purchased separately so I'm considering buying a full set of aftermarket door handles for roughly $50 just for the seals.

You bet! door handle seals were in good shape and we just reused them. That’s a good idea to buy the aftermarket handles JUST for the seals. We replaced the tailgate handle a few years ago with a $15 cheapo from eBay. Waiting for it to completely fail so I can install the $150 OEM handle. That’s one area I know not to skimp on.
