There is like an 8 to 14 digit number stamped on my receiver bottom driver side not sure if that means anything might be something you can check out

Yep that’s right, I was looking in the wrong spot and looked like it was integral.
This is what the hitch looks like.

As a follow up to this thread - I did some "involuntary research" recently with my '23 Tundra's "Class IV" hitch. The lobster claw hitch on my rusty old trailer failed - popped off the 2" ball when I hit a bump - and proceeded to rip one of the flimsy safety chain loops off the side of the receiver. The other loop is badly tweaked and nearly came off too, which would have been a disaster.

The trailer was unloaded thankfully, weighs about 1000 lbs, and I was going about 45 mph on a blacktop road when it happened. When the loop ripped off it took out the bottom corner of the receiver tube. Luckily there's a reinforcing band around the front and back of the receiver tube, otherwise the entire tube would have come apart.

I'm not sure how to report a serious safety issue to Toyota, but this design flaw is certainly inconsistent with typical quality Toyota Construction.

Anybody have a recommendation for a direct fit, aftermarket replacement for Toyota's stock class IV hitch? I'd like to upgrade to a class V, but all I can find are "Universal fit, some modification required" models.20230813_131750.jpg 20230813_131824.jpg 20230813_131750.jpg 20230813_131824.jpg

A placard should be on the hitch somewhere in conjunction with the owners manual.
