Honestly, I would stick to Kenwood, Sony, Alpine, Pioneer, etc. Boss does not have the best reputation.

Those Chinese made units are full of bugs in the software and customer support is non-existent.

I did the same thing and I couldn't be happier! Kenwood 1057xr head unit,2x Audison Prima APK 165 components front/back doors,2x Audison APS 10D subs, powered by an Audison SR 5x600 amp. The Audison stuff is a little pricey, but is sounds so incredible.

What kind of cost would I be looking at for something like this?

I have a 2017 1794 w/ JBL package...want to change out display so I can use Apple car play for work, and maybe upgrade audio while I'm at it.

You are looking at 3k for the headunit speakers amp and subs...Call James at tech12volt. You would be much happier just gutting the whole thing... I kept the HU and did a dsr1 and later did the headunit because of carplay and didn't quite like the sound. Wow what a difference the kenwood headunit made.

I have the Kenwood DNR1007XR (plus a front facing camera to help with parking that beast) installed since DEC '21, in my 2021 TRD Pro. I give it very mixed review.

    PROS
-GREAT Sound (MUCH better than the stock unit)
    -Lots of options, gauges, etc
    -No glare screen
-Nice haveing a large screen for the cameras (front & back)... when they work...

    Cons
-Android Auto drops out A LOT!!! I don't think I've had one trip, even short local trips, where it hasn't dropped out at least once. and yes, I've updated the firmware on 3/27/22
-Front camera does not always come on at slow speeds (like when parking)

As someone who, like most of us, lives in our phones, the Android Auto drop out is a big issue for me. I like using Google Maps for navigating, and having the apps on my phone available while driving. Having paid $1500ish for a top of the line premium head-unit, I am disappointed.

I've heard that Apple Car Play does not have that problem, but having to switch from Android (which I've always used) to an Apple phone (which I've never used) just to have my audio system work AFTER paying $1500 seem ridiculous.

Anyone have the same issue with Android Auto? Any ideas?

Plug into usb...I connected the dash usb to the back of the unit. Carplay for me works wireless too without an issue. I have the same unit but no front camera which I would love to have.
