It's been two months since the last update to this thread... I guess something should be said...

It'll be for sale soon-ish (think Late Spring/Early Summer). With a bit of luck we'll be travelling for longer stints later this year, and after less than 18 months, it's time for the Tundra to find a new home. Exact for sale timeline will be solidified once its replacement arrives (which should hopefully be in the next few weeks, as it is on the way from the port to the dealership). At that time I'll figure out a price for it as well.

Sad to see it go but i can understand wanting to upgrade given your needs and application. Has been fun following your build especially since you're local. What are you moving to next?

There are still a few things that need to be finished up on the Tundra before it goes up for sale. I still have some parts in the garage that have never made it onto the truck or that need to be replaced.

The replacement will be.... Surprisingly, a '22 Sprinter 144 4x4. We're planning doing the interior build ourselves, and hopefully will be in "travel worthy" condition within the next 2-3 months. Assuming it doesn't break any rules, I'll link to that build thread in here whenever it starts

Hah, the same thing that initiated the switch to the Tundra from our 4Runner, ordering our RTT, and going to our AT Atlas... Contemplation on long drives. To preface this, my girlfriend said the Tundra would be sold within 2 years when we bought it, I said it might be longer... She was right, but the actual timeline will be around 16 months.

As a package the Tundra is, in a word, amazing. It has sauntered through off road sections that other (smaller) trucks had issues on, it has a ton of room, it looks fabulous, drives great on the highway, etc. The vast majority of our long term trips aren't serious wheeling trips (because it sucks to really break something 3,000mi from home) and don't use the truck's abilities to anywhere near its potential; additionally, while we've found the Atlas is cozy and supremely comfortable (even in well-below freezing temps), getting in/out through the tailgate starts wearing on you after a few weeks on the road.

Over the past year we've spent a considerable amount of time on the road, in literally every corner of the lower 48, and seen more setups than I can even begin to count, but we keep coming back to wanting a driving/living space that is easy to move between and doesn't require any setup. We were pretty set on a F350/Ram 3500 with an AT Aterra XL or a custom built composite box, but really liked the connected space the Sprinter offers for a similar overall cost (a pass through is possible with the custom route, but really adds to the complexity and timeline). Keeping the overall length as short as possible was important for those mountain roads that limit vehicles to 21', and having "decent" fuel economy was ideal. The Sprinter is the final year of actual 4WD with low range, and recently had one go through the intro & recovery courses at OEX with impressive results. Additionally, the "single fuel" concept of the Sprinter seems ideal, as it'll use diesel for everything and won't need to worry about propane.
