Other than the additional $5K of SET options (all of which you don’t need but don’t break the bank either like tire rotation, etc) it not too bad. The Tonneau cover, TRD steps, blacked out badges, etc will all be included for you so that’s a plus.

There is no obvious dealer markup I can see…(ticky tack additions though) so if you are comfortable with it then go for it.

Dig this video. Those million mile trucks being pushed above their ratings is why I bought a Tundra. It’s cool Sweers explains how what they learned informs the new truck. I think it’s highly likely I’ll end up in a 3rd gen some point down the road.

I knew that packages varied by country (USA v CAN), but it's disappointing to discover that packages offered by Toyota NA vary by region within the USA. The following package is available on the west coast, but not in the east. Not getting this option may push me to a 1794 which I really don't want to do for several reasons.

Trying to decide if I want the pano roof in one of the Crewmax models. Does it have a "tilt" function in addition to being fully Opened or Closed, or is Opened or Closed your only options?

EDIT: So I was reviewing the specs online again and saw "Power tilt/slide panoramic roof with power sunshade" listed for Crewmax bodies, so got that question answered. However, I'm curious if anyone has used the tilt feature much and has an opinion as to whether it is a must-have or a nice-to-have.

The '05 Tundra I bought used the bed looked like Victor Sheppard's after I pulled the plastic bedliner out. There was a lot of debris trapped under it and would have caused rust but it was a New Mexico truck so the dry air helps. Composite bed is ok with me, can't hold D-rings like steel and tend to spread at the tailgate though.

The pano roof was a must because my wife wanted it. When ordering I was not such a fan. But I’m very happy with it. It’s very nice however I could “feel” the heat from the sun through the factory glass. 50% ceramic tint on the pano fixed that.

I would deff order the pano roof and recommend it.

Sorry but the factory allowing a distributor (a "distributor" is ludicrous in itself, WTF???) to add valueless bullshit options is offensive at best. Pass on that shit show. You'll be doing yourself (and the rest of us) a favor.

The tri fold cover is like $900 installed at a dealer, the TRD boards are $850 shipped. The black overlays are like $100, floor mats are like $250 and the toyo guard and paint protect is just a ripoff.

I guess it varies by state. I have three Toyota dealerships near me and all of them sell the tonneau cover for $1200ish and all require it to be installed at the dealer for ......$292!! Talk about a rip off. Not one dealer will allow a Tonneau to be purchased and self installed, at least near me.

Thank you for the valuable feedback. And the ceramic tint is a great suggestion that I'll definitely keep in mind.

At the point of all those add-ons and packages, I'd rather get a limited on up ! Resell factor for one, and insurance you get proper replacement if totaled in an accident.

Years down the road, all people will see is SR5, not SR5 with lotta upgrades so worth what the Plat/1794 is worth.

That's an excellent point. Years down the road someone will be looking to price that truck up and not realize that is an upgrade versus what they may assume came standard on the SR5. Going with the Limited does seem to be the better way to go. However, like so many things in life, if you just love the truck AS-IS and, like me, keep your vehicles for 15+ years, then go for it!

SR5 is really the worst value if you want leather seats. Every time I've built one in order to get leather and a 32 gal tank it's within 2k of a limited. May just be the packages available in my area though

Well, I've been having a real tough time trying to nail down exactly what model/packages I want in my Tundra. Then, someone on here started talking about the hybrids available in the configurator only to discover that applies only to west coast zip codes (e.g. 91732). Anyway, I forgot that I had changed the zip code in the configurator and thought I was settled on the Platinum with the following package:

    upload_2022-3-11_20-22-55.jpg

Unfortunately, that option isn't available in GA. There's 5 available packages in CA; 3 in GA. WTH?! Is it possible that package availability increases over time as production gets ramped back up? Damn, at this rate it'll be 2025 before Toyota re-swizzles the packages/options that suit me. This is where the Big 3 shine:

Ford/GM/RAM: "you want that truck with a side of fries and a shake, no problem."
Toyota: "you can get that truck with one of two options if you live in PT zone; otherwise you get one option (and you'll like it!)"

I do understand that with all the flexibility the Big 3 offer with respect to configurations comes with trade-offs - particularly with respect to quality - but if Toyo offers a model with X number of options, you'd think those would be available to everyone, at least in the same country!

    Rant over ... for now.

Dealer is offering $750 off a 2wd platinum with a few extras would be $60.5k.
    But just can’t do 2wd

Been there, done that! In 2007 I was in the hunt for a Taco 4WD but nothing on the lot (or the area) that appealed to me. However, the sales guy brought the GM's Tundra TRD OR 2WD around for me to see. I couldn't afford a brand new Tundra 4WD and the fact that this ride had 2300 miles on it, I was able to get a good deal. BUT, I've been needing 4WD ever since and won't settle for less ever again.

I am still surprised Toyota offers a 4X2 Tundra or Tacoma. Just drop that nonsense, streamline production, crash testing, and EPA certification and pass on the savings to the consumer.

Steel beds expand on the sides as well: if you put a topper on or a bed rack. That's why they recommend adding bed channel supports. Composite won't permanently bend like steel will after the weight is removed though.

You can buy any package you want, they would just have to swap allocation with a dealer on the west coast.

Can't post the link but if you got to The Fast Lane Truck on YouTube and click on Community. You'll see what is most likely the Trail Edition trim being tested by Toyota.

Cali taxes may sway you from this, but if there's a package you really want it can be worth a road trip to go get it. Get what you want and then a little holiday road trip on the side. Heck for a while I was considering buying a US TRD Pro but the CAD dollar went up then suddenly Canadian trucks were the cheaper option - although we would miss out on a few options.
