Just picked up a 2007 Tundra 4x4 with the 4.7L and 80k miles. Based on the age of the vehicle should I go ahead and change the timing belt now? Thanks!

Since it's an interference engine I would.

Watching the first 20 minutes or so of this video-not something I would attempt! Very cool to watch a pro do it!

Yes it's overdue on age. Easy to swap, get the Aisin kit or Toyota OEM anything else is trash. 2UZ is one of the easier timing belts to do, with experience can be done in 5-6 hours.

Is it a 4.6L with timing chain? Or is it a 2006 model year? Or did I miss something?

Didn’t realize the 2nd Gen ever came with a 4.7… looks like it did for a couple years. That’s a gem then!

I mean it could be argued which one is better.. I know at least in the 4.7 the engine core is an iron block. I believe the 5.7 is aluminum. Somtimes those things make a difference... but if taken care of either one would go 500,000 no problem.

OOh also to the OP. @AreJay1962 the timing belt can be done on the 4.7. Its not hard but not a walk in the part. It can be done in one weekend if you are going slow and trying to take your time. Look for Ofram videos on the 4.7 timing belt.. here's a list of part you may need to do the job well. mind you this was for a 1998. for a 2007 with a VVT you may need some additional parts.

    https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/re...radiator-help-with-parts-list-please.1277809/

Also iirc the timing marks for the vvti are also slightly different.. those are the major things you want to keep track of while doing the timing belt. But its very doable.
