Kenwood eXcelon Reference DMX1057XR

Had one on order since first week of November. Just had them cancel it two days ago since they told me they had zero update or eta on the order.

No warranty through Kenwood when ordering through them btw. Ended up just getting a 1037s via bestbuy.

 

Yeah I cancelled thru them,day before Christmas crutchfield had one on the scratch and dent(outlet)got it from them to see if it was dent and was really surprised with the item.save couple hundred dollars

 

They say ships in 1-2 weeks (special order item). Good luck with that.....I think the Kenwood authorized distributors will be getting the first incoming shipments

 

For those looking to get one. Amazon just shows 3 available. Crutchfield also have some in stock. Better jump on it if you wanting one.

 

Dang. The price has jumped significantly and it's now $1600. Guess I'll stick with the stock head unit.

 

Just installed mine today and I'm finding that in the most inboard horizontal position and top most vertical position the screen shakes when my truck hit bumps. Anyone else experiencing this?

 

Not sure if mine is in the same position as yours, but I don't get any shake at all. Even on gnarly, logging roads.

 

Do you have the gussets installed?

 

I don't know. I didn't install this unit myself.

 

I’m using the 1057 with the stock jbl amp and speakers and volume during calls is really low. It’s set at max but it’s still very hard to hear people. Sound from everything else like Sirius and Music through CarPlay is fine. Anyone having this issue?

 

I have the same issue. iPhone volume is turned up all the way but really low to speakers on call or when CarPlay reading text messages.

 

I wondering if upgrading the amp to an aftermarket will fix this issue?

 

No, not at all, mine is absolutely rock solid.

 

Had it for over a year now.

- When it works, it's great
- In certain areas it crashes hard. Either the software crashes or it loses data connection with my phone, not sure which - but it restarts. Seems to be related to phone data connection handoffs between base stations. (ie. certain parts of town it will _always_ crash regardless of what I'm doing.) On some all-day drives it can crash ten times. It's not particularly stable and there are no more firmware updates.
- Android Auto must still be started manually
- The annoying 10-second splash screen is always there on a fresh start

Audio quality, audio options and the screen are all good but in terms of software it's a clunky system. I'm going to get the Motorola wireless Android Auto unit and use the DMX1057 in 'wired' mode and see how things go.

 

Have someone send you a very long message. When the message plays, crank up the volume. The volume you set during the readback will be the 'message volume' thereafter.

 

Thanks for your review. I would not want to spend $2000 on a stereo and have issues with disconnecting and restarts.

 

If I were to do it all over again I'd probably go for the big-screen Pioneer models. No volume button but the Kenwood/JVC systems are definitely not stable.

 

I had the Pioneer 8600 for a few weeks and ditched it for the DMX1057. The lack of Volume knob and Camera button made it an absolute dealbreaker for me. I don't have any issues with the Kenwood.

 

Man it’s always this way when you read reviews like a hit or miss when you buy these fancy headunits. Some like the pioneer WT8600 and some like the Kenwood 1057 XR. I’m deciding on one of these but no rush to buy one.

 

I ended up pulling the trigger on the DMX1057XR. I really like the headunit. It crashed on my once, when I was in stop and go traffic and the smart features kept turning on the front camera to display thinking that I'm parking.

 

That's normal. When you're going very slow and starting and stopping it thinks your pulling in to a spot and activates the front camera. Unfortunately there's no settings to change how this behaves.

 

There is, under OEM settings and Maestro. I was trying to say I think it crashed because the software was activating and deactivating it so frequently. I really like the feature.

 

Anyone put a screen protector on this Kenwood? Been searching.

 

I had a DMX906XR and now have the 1057. Both are rock solid & I love them.

 

No, I haven't but I have thought about it. It's been in my truck for 2 years now and no major scratches. I was in Korea for a year of that though. I'll post if I do find something.

 

I have a 2018 Toyota tundra I put the Kenwood
DMX1057XR.

It has a mirroring option I love. But I let Toyota install a keyless remote start and when they gave it back to me it wouldn't mirror anymore. It gave me the message on the screen parking off. I tried using the HDMI port and it gives me the same message. Very frustrating. I'm at a stand still. The tecks at my local car audio instalers are stumped too. So frustrating. Please help. Had a set back last week with my installer adding my new Kenwood 1057. Apparently there is 2 different maestro plugs for our truck to hook up with the Kenwood headunit to control your factory buttons on your steering wheel. The owner accidentally order the wrong plug so when my installer pulled the radio and found he had the wrong plug he put the headunit back in. No big deal just a bummer so I rescheduled my appointment. Not sure if others know there are 2 different maestro plug wires to use.
