But keeping this good boy on a low floor just would not be fair. He needs to be able to get his head out the window!

But then he is able to jump out of the back rear window which is usually kept open (just to piss off the owners of Big 3 trucks )
and out onto the back tonneau cover he goes.
He is actually able to reach the side rear window from the floor.
I have to keep the drivers window lock button on.

You need one of those lanyards with one end that clips onto the doggy and the other onto the truck's LATCH point. Give him just enough slack to get to the window but not out. And not enough to lick your head. That's how we roll with our dog.

Does the Gen 3 have a full rear roll down? Tell me Toyota at least got that right by keeping it?

Looks are subjective to the individual and the V6 turbo vs V8 can be debated to death, but I don't understand how anyone could buy a '22 given how much smaller the cab is and the reduced turning radius. Most Tundra owners I know (myself included) bought the previous gen based on reliability and size and I'd often hear comments on the turning radius as well. I'm amazed that a big touchscreen and 1-2 mpgs would make someone switch.

Not sure if Toyota stops being Toyota. They seem to be completely out of touch with what alot of people loved about the truck. I've owned 4 Tundras and the new ones are a joke in so many areas it can't be defended. I loved hearing Ford and Chevy guys comment on how much room my '14 and '17 Crewmax had when they would get in it. No one that buys a '22 will ever hear that. But hey if people love paying more money for a touchscreen, turbo V6, with a cool tailgate release brake light that has less room and can't park for squat then it's a free world and more power to them.

On a side note I'm thrilled I was able to sell my '17 for more than I paid new and now own a paid off 2004 Tundra DC that should last me a while.

there is an epic tug of war battle going on "right now" with someone (truck hat on) owns a 2018 (ATF cooler) loves the truck, has been through a lot with it and that same someone (business hat on) can make $7-8k on it after 4 years of ownership.

If you go with the 6.5 bed it makes up somewhat for space utility lost in the cab.
I drove one this week. You are correct about the turning radius. But there are 2 other aspects previous gen owners need to consider.

I think the used prices for these trucks is cooling rather fast so I wouldn't be so sure on selling for that much.

for grins I just did a caravan offer and they only offered 34K,

thats really stupid, show me where you can get a tundra like mine in great condition for 34k, lol. ya right.

because some of us didnt come from the v-8 so we dont have the cabin size to compare it to. and also, some of us are shorter than 6 feet so the cabin doesn't have to feel like a 3 story mansion inside. and I dont get the turning radius argument. I turn just find in mine. when I hear about the turn radius I picture you guys doing round abouts or donuts somewhere.

I have a 2016 and just test drove a 2022 platinum crewmax and the smaller cabin in the front is being overblown, I get get in and out easier on the new one, you don't have to fold in half as much.

that said, they rear seat is where you can tell its a touch smaller, its not as raked and the head room is less for the models with the giant sunroof, but that is to be expected for the pano roof, which I thought was really cool.

Im 6'3" 285 and the front seat was all the way back and I got in the rear seat and fit fine.

I think there is a little exaggeration, yes its a touch smaller in the rear, but its not a tacoma size fellas.

I agree. I sold my '17 about 6 weeks ago and I feel blessed because I think I hit the market peak. Barely got my wife's Armada sold before prices started tumbling.

My 2.5 has a hump in the back so it's not like you're losing a flat floor if you switch.

2.5 has a small hump - lets call this a small wall in comparison. you need to go see it.
the bigger issue anyway is the frame that holds up the seats. the frame on the 2.5 back seats folds up with the seats out of the way.
My problem - I would need to remove that frame to make it flatter.
No one has ever sat on my back seats - it is used as SUV like storage.
    Again my issue.

The only two reasons I’m not in a gasser GMC HD are 2nd gen Tundra reliability (the upside of an ancient platform) and the wheelbase/turning radius of an HD truck. The short nose and tight turning of the 2nd gen are extremely valuable to me. I bought this truck to be a dependable daily driver that is super easy to maintain and because it is the easiest full-size truck to maneuver on trails and for off-roading in general.

I hunt, backpack, and take my family of five and our dog on remote/dispersed camping trips. Reliability is paramount to me. And the way this truck handles and maneuvers off-road and it’s visibility feels more like a midsize in my opinion.

when I test drove the 2022 crewmax, I didnt notice turning radius problems in just normal driving and I did a circle in the dealer lot

what are the actual number differences ?

two feet difference. outside of a tight turning trail take it on a narrow road, and try a three point turn.

I think the whole argument from 2.5 owners against buying 3.0 is silly. If you don't want a 3.0, don't buy one. Keep your 2.5 and run it 500k or more. But don't bash those that buy 3.0. You don't see guys that bought the 3.0 on here posting negative things about those who choose to keep their 2.5. And for the record, I don't have any skin in the game because I traded my 2.5 truck in for something with more payload which means I had to leave the Toyota family. I would have loved to stay a Tundra owner, but neither the 2.5 or 3.0 had enough payload for my needs. Could it be that both the 2.5 and 3.0 Tundras are both good trucks? Different but good in their own way?

    for me
this thread is about 2.5 and prior owners throwing out as many cons as possible to see if the pros outweigh the cons.
to make an informed decision. there is no perfect truck.
public chat forums are about sharing info.
If I had made my decision like you, I would not be on this thread.

ok, for me that means nothing, I don't drive trails, etc anymore.

Im more of a use my truck for busniess and pleasure and be able to haul things around I buy so its fine.

I would actually gain several hundred pounds of payload by going with the 2022, mine now is only 1100 and I ahve to haul 320 lbs of sand to calm the axle hop on these shit ass roads here.

I came from an '09 Tundra. I like the '22 better overall, but it does have some shortcomings compared to the Gen 2s.

If I had to do it again, I'd still get the '22. But there are a lot of aspects of the '09 that I miss. Hopefully, aftermarket will address some of that.

I think they are both good trucks. Just because I haven’t denounced my ‘21 as inferior in every way and hopped onto the 3rd gen train right away doesn’t mean I won’t buy one when it’s time to replace mine. It has gone forward in lots of ways sure; but it has gone backward in others and as of yet unknown in others still. Biggest deal for me is simplicity and reliability over the long term.

I’ll probably end up in one down the road.

I realize this isn't meant as a blanket statement against all 2.5 owners...but not all of us justify keeping our 2.5 by listing all of the cons of a 3rd Gen.

    For me, it's pretty simple:

    1. My 2nd gen is paid off
    2. 2nd gen is proven to be very reliable.
    3. To get into a 3rd gen, I'd owe at least 10-13K to get the same truck in a 3rd gen.
    4. Given that a) I don't tow tons, and drive maybe 25 miles/day IF I go to work physically; and b) 3rd gen MPG isn't tons better than 2nd gen, the gas savings aren't astronomically better for me.

Honestly, that's about it, pure and simple. Sure, I can throw out other facts about wastegate this and front-end that, but at the end of the day, the thought process above is why I'm not upgrading at this time.

I sold my 19 platinum in November for more than I paid for it, have been kicking myself for not keeping it until the peak, could have made a few k more. But you are right, prices are dropping fast. My wife has been looking at dumping her 4runner and in the past week it has dropped almost $9k in value on carvana, carmax, vroom, etc

Want to talk about cabin space while wearing a full load? At least in 2001 I had a panoramic sunroof.

thank u for your service US and Canada.

There will never be a situation again where one can drive their truck for 4-5 years, trade it in and get more than they paid incl taxes.
Only you can decide if it is worth it for you.
You are still here on this thread because you are still - in the back of your mind - probably thinking about it. 8^0

    @DexterL
the dealer this morning confirmed the trade value of my truck as he did in Jan. But I had not done enough research.
he can guarantee the price for 30 days from committing. I realize the window is closing.
