Is a 2019 too late to debadge without damage or leaving severe ghosting? I have searched and read all the posts on how to do this and it seems like there are some mixed results. I am wondering if the adhesive damages the paint and clear coat underneath it or if it actually protects it. My truck is MGM in color if that makes any difference. What were your results of debadging and what age was your truck when you did it.

I am nervous about potentially removing the clear coat or having the paint damaged like in the pic below (This pic is not my truck and my paint is in much better condition.

I debadged an 08’ in 2016. Heat gun, fishing line, goo gone, clay bar, high speed polisher and zero residual ghosting or marring. You’d never know.

I just did my 2010 with approximately the same steps you did. Came out great20211121_142932.jpg 20211121_143251.jpg 20211121_144428.jpg 20211121_144751.jpg 20211121_145005.jpg

I think I will try one of the SR5 badges on the rear pillar and see how it turns out. I guess I could always replace it if it goes poorly.

Bed side decals were the worst. Took alot of heat and elbow wax to get all that off. The badges were nothing compared to those.

I concure. The adhesive they use for the bedside decals is straight military grade crossed with Nasa engineering. I ended up pulling out the Xylene but even then it became this gooey mess that stuck to everthing.

Will it mar or mess with the paint or is it just like everything and use with caution.

Used it on a ton of vehicles, never hurt one. I understand the apprehension, I had it too, just natural when you love something.

No kidding, just removed mine over the weekend. Ended up using goof gone. I was a nervous I was going to damage the clear coat so I made sure to remove it before it dried. Lot of elbow grease, but it turned out great!

Just curious what is it about the badges you don't like? The chrome look is dated? Genuinely curious.

Imo badges take away from the vehicles aesthetic. I don't need 7 badges telling me I have an engine, or a toyota, or a tundra. Remove all that shit and you get nice sleek, sexy, clean lines. It's one of the smallest details but makes it look so much nicer.

Just make sure you clean the grit from the area first and you'll be fine.
Without grit this is a big soft eraser/rubber wheel
With grit you turn this into a sanding disk.

Just did our 2018 on the one day we had over 40 degrees. No ghosting, no issues.

Now the damn dealer sticker is another story, some chrome super stick letters that I couldn't make a dent with.

I second that 3M wheel for taking off badges. Works great.. just don't lean on it too hard.

I agree. And it's much easier to clean without the badges. I just recently debadge my white Tundra after 12 years and it wasn't pretty. I posted pictures earlier in this thread. That said I immediately debaged the Tacoma when I bought it

Amen. Doing it while it's warm and in direct sunlight helps too (not sure if it was mentioned yet). You can even use a heat gun to warm it a bit. In my experience, you can avoid the wheel if the badge is new enough. Most of the time, I'm good with some 10 pound test, shop towel, and goo be gone.

I did the job this AM and it was pretty painless, thank you to everyone for the advice. I only had 5 lb fly fishing line so I ended up using upholstery thread and it worked great. The eraser wheel saved my fingers and 6 hours of work. I still had a slight outline of the badge after cleaning with WD-40 so I hit it with the orbital polisher and some Griots compound and it dissipated. I like the clean look much better. I didnt do the TUNDRA one on the lower doors but I am considering it.
