Wait for Iforcemax or settle for regular?

In a bit of a pickle here folks and need some help. I sold my 19 in November for a pretty penny and have been waiting for the 22 hybrid to come out in platinum or 1794 long bed. My family puts a lot of miles on our trucks- we are overlanding/ camping every other weekend spring through fall (3.6k wet weight), I tow a jet boat (2.6k wet) all around Idaho and or a small fiberglass drift boat. I use my truck to run errands in town, so hybrid is appealing.

My truck will have a lightish set of 35x12.5x17’s on it, a small lift, front and rear bumpers, skids, decked system a topper.

I have a deposit down on a black platinum long bed (hate black vehicles, but I looks really sharp) non hybrid that will be available end of this month.

I was really hoping we would start to see hybrids allocating this month (nothing on the first allocation, second allocation is next week). My issue is this- if hybrids start allocating Mid April, that means realistically trucks are showing up in the PNW in late May early June.

What I am torn on:
-fuel economy is obviously a huge concern for me first and foremost. The hybrid is marginally better, but my hope is city driving it negates the mods I have made and on the highway it breaks even with stock non hybrids.
- no truck from now through May is manageable, but come early June I need a rig.
- I am worried rising interest rates will push the cost of the truck into an uncomfortable level (2.99% vs 4% is a good jump and what I am expecting)
- cost of hybrid vs fuel savings has been talked about a bunch, I see the benefit in mild mpg increase and more power.

 

Don't settle, get what you want..
No reason to spend the next 10 years regretting not getting the Iforcemax you wanted.

Maybe if wait, you won't be stuck buying a black one, THAT is settling.

If you can afford the price difference, then get what you want. Don’t settle. I just still can’t believe that the 2022 trd pro is basically $17k more that the previous year and almost the same difference between a limited w/trd off road non hybrid.

 

I don't see the benefit of the hybrid unless your towing on the upper end of 1/2 ton duties.

plus the QC problems will likely have another full round with the new hybrid model and you would be a super early adopter.

for me, Im passing on the hybrid, at 3500 bucks and no storage, hardly any fuel gains, I just don't see it

I test drove a non-hybrid tundra and it has plenty of power, more than my 5.7 feels so thats enough for me.

 

Don’t settle and definitely don’t try to find a justification for why you are settling.

I understand the need for a truck for mid year but is there any way you can rent one for your particular needs?

Simply put you may regret getting what’s available at the moment. Hold out if you can at least to get a color you prefer. That a s$&t ton of money to spend on a color you hate. IMHO…

 

Thanks everyone for talking some sense into me, find out today if the 2 dealer I am working with have any hybrids on this allocation, fingers crossed for 1 in my configuration. I am first in line at both, so hoping today is a good day!

 

I'd say get what you want, but if you need a truck soon...don't be afraid to pull the trigger on a regular TTV6.

I drive a lot as well (~500 miles a week) and I toyed around with getting the hybrid. However, once Toyota came out and said they "didn't build the hybrid for increased MPGs but rather for increased torque & power" I shifted gears and just got the normal TTV6. The regular TTV6 has plenty of power for me (I might tow a small teardrop from time to time). Since the MPG gain wasn't enough to justify the increased price tag, it didn't seem to make sense fiscally for me.

 

Depending on price and trade in, I may go max. I regret not waiting and jumping at the first truck available in this area. I don’t even tow, I just do enough mixed driving that the mpg should stay higher than the 15-16 I get now. Who knows, time will tell for me. I’m more or less waiting on the all electric, diesel, hybrid diesel, whatever they do next. Fuel efficiency is coming in time so as for now, I love my truck.

 

Initially, I wanted to wait for the hybrid but after seeing the numbers, I'll wait a few years to see if they can improve it. I see Toyota tweaking the hybrid to be more efficient if enough consumers complain. I've already put aside money to put towards the extra cost for the hybrid when I decide to "upgrade." Also, if you're worried about interest rates, get a preapproved at your local bank or credit union. My preapproval from Navy Fed is good for 90 days, which in your case, will still be good if one becomes available between now and early June.

 

You will never get a lifted truck on 35’s even This hybrid to match mileage of the stock non hybrid. You should forget about gas savings in your equation. Specially considering the added cost of the hybrid. But you should get exactly what you want. Your spending to much to settle.

 

Most MPG loss is in city driving with the big wheels and tires so hybrid should help to solve that- eclectic up to 18mph and at cruising speeds, so technically it could/ should offset the wheels and additional weight. MPG is important, unfortunately so are all the other parts on the truck, a stock vehicle would get destroyed the places I take it.
