HELP: ODD Request to order Catalytic Converter

Hi everyone!


I have a odd request. My catalytic converter was stolen back in Dec. Toyota parts are backordered. My shop is trying to order a high flow Catalytic converter but they will not ship to California. We are doing it this way so I can get my truck back faster. Toyota has no eta on parts

update: just going to wait for stock cat.

Alot of guys are getting check engine lights with aftermarket converters.

 

Yea, But I’ve been without a car for 3 months now. Starting a new job soon that I will need to drive to. Sucks but I have to do what I have to do.

Did you take the truck to your dealership?
Mine is paying for rentals for those waiting on cat parts.
I'm in one of their rental Tacomas, have been since 11/16/2021.

A friend shop. My insurance only covered 30 days

 

My insurance on covers $1500 per claim, about 32 days with this rental agreement.
I'm on day 112, Toyota is paying for the rest of the rental.
When they ran out of loaners, they started putting people in Enterprise rentals and covering whatever the insurance didn't pay.
Last I checked a few weeks ago, they have 22 Tundras and Sequoias waiting on cat parts.
Only had 7 when I dropped it off in November.

Maybe see if your dealership will do the same for you unless your friend wants to pay for your rental..
They might not since you already reached the claim rental limit.
But I'd ask, the only thing that has kept me sane the last 112 days is I have something to drive and Toyota is paying for it.

I researched aftermarket cats and most said they not only gave CE lights, but only lasted a few years.
At least that is what I read..

A total insurance claim is $7500 for OEM parts and labor with 32 days of rental.
That is why I have insurance.

Might keep this in mind as well;
According to a couple of articles, your truck won't pass inspection with a high flow Catalytic converter.
Probably why they won't ship it to CA.
At least it won't pass a visual inspection, do they do that?

Yes, Taxifornia doe a visual inspection with the required state smog inspections.

 

Not all dealerships are bad nice of them to pay for loaner.

 

@typerlegend if its just temp you could always put turn down where they cut and drive it just to keep new job. Unless they cut wires as well.

 

Are you not even going to give aftermarket cats a chance? Magnaflow will trigger lights but will clear eventually.

 

I would but can’t get them in CA. Just waiting for stock cat from dealership now.

Yup, might get it end of month. I just straight piped for now so I can drive. Only cruise control doesn’t work which is weird.

 

Cruise control doesn’t work when the CEL is on.

 

Ahhh, thank you. I checked all them fuses and everything and was like, it probably has something to do with my missing cat. Thank you for saving me $250 diagnostic fee from dealer.

 

I checked every fuse too. My truck is straight piped as well, so had the CEL on because the O2 sensors were missing. Cleared codes and cruise control started working but of course CEL would come back on, and cruise control disabled again. Now I have O2 sensors and spacers, so no CEL and all has been good for a few months now.

 

Sick, I’m going to do that if I don’t get my part at the end of the month. I tried clearing the CEL but it would come back on right after I start the truck.

Magnaflow shows carb compliant converters for California. Did you check those ? I got the cats on my truck a few weeks back and have had no problems, so far.

Where abouts in North OC? We have the same truck, except your white and I'm red. SR5 TRD Sport with Kings all around.

What dealer are you waiting on to get the cats? I had mine stolen a week ago. Toyota is paying for my rental.

 

Fullerton. I took to my friends shop, big mistake. Our friendship has suffered over this. Should of just took it to dealership. Still waiting for part, it’s supposedly coming very soon. I heard that before though. How long did they say you had to wait?

Placentia here. I’m still waiting, it’s only been 2 weeks since they were stolen. They broke into the body shop that was repairing some minor bumper damage. Really, you were told “very soon” at some point? Some guys have been waiting for over 200 days….that’s a long time to be driving a Ram
