There were a LOT of people heading to the top on Sunday.

 

Sad, I think two people had injuries and one was doa.

 

Just looked - was a late call (5PM) on Sunday. We were already home by then. They couldn't reach them Sunday night because weather had moved in (you could see it coming when we knocked off about 3pm), so they had to go back Monday morning. Looks like they left the deceased on the mountain due to conditions, and then we've had a bunch of precipitation today.

We had high winds over here last night and then it snowed on us all day today.

 

reading a little more - looks like they got close Sunday but turned back due to avalanche conditions. A new team went in Monday morning, but they weren't able to do a helo extraction due to high winds and had to sled the injured climber out to where they could get to a snowcat from Timberline.

I keep talking about getting my ass back in shape and joining SAR. In 2020, my wife and her friend encountered a lost and hypothermic hiker on the PCT near Glacier Peak. They contacted me on their inReach because they didn't want to freak everyone out issuing the SOS call on it. I started out getting vitals assessment and what information I could from my wife (not fun or easy over inReach text messages), then worked through the emergency system to get in touch with the right COUNTY and AGENCY to even start relaying information. From there, I spent several hours relaying messages between my wife on her inReach and Snohomish SAR to pinpoint location, and work on possible ground extraction routes before they were able to get cleared to put a bird in the air and find a landing spot near their location (their Huey was in for service, so they had to send in their small bird that only has room for pilot, medic, and one passenger). Apparently, because they didn't initiate SOS, the SAR teams aren't authorized to contact directly, so I played coordinator the whole time - it was an interesting experience. Afterwards, the SAR officer contacted my wife and suggested I look into it.





Anyway...news stories like this get me thinking about signing up.

That would be cool to get back in to, I've thought about getting involved in our local snowmobile SAR.
