You will notice that the husband died over 65 years ago (And 6 years before the mine fire started), but the wife doesn't have a birthdate or a date of death; There were several headstones where one spouse was likely not buried due to the town being vacated...

 

The gate had a sign clearly listing the hours the cemetery was open, but at the same time, there was a "NO TRESSPASSING" sign on a tree inside the fence; I was a bit confused...

 

Went to the Bar Louie at the Promenade with my cousin for dinner and saw this sweet Lamborghini Urus in the parking lot!

 

Never experienced dirt buildup quite like what I picked up in Centralia; Is this what happens when you drive through coal country?!?!

 

The three pictures of the Lamborghini were the last I took with my circa 2019 Nikon D5600; I brought the Nikon to Cardinal Camera where I bought it, with the intention of getting the problems with it fixed under the "Shit Happens" accidental damage warranty. These problems included a busted SD card door and intermittently functioning movie mode, plus the camera was just beat to shit because let's face it, I use my cameras! Imagine my pleasant surprise when the camera decided that it wasn't economically feasible to fix the D5600 and opted to give me an almost new D5500 off the shelf! It is a slightly less expensive model than the D5600, but I couldn't find the differences and neither could the lady at the camera shop; I honestly don't care, because I've got a new camera body for free and only had to pay $160 for a new 3-year "shit happens" warranty!

 

March 5th, 2022:

I went to a car show in Hamburg that ended up being a mere swap meet, and while I got some great pictures, I wanted to make a legit road trip out of it; I checked the GPS and found out I was less than an hour from Centralia! As I said earlier, I am likely not going to be able to afford spontaneous road trips anymore due to the rising price of a gallon of gas; It was a perfect day today, so I decided to get my "spring" trip done a little early. I have every intention of going back with my two best friends sometime before this summer!

As with the trip a month ago, iPhone photos posted first, and SLR photos later (With the D5500 this time!)...

 

Heading around the bend into Centralia...

 

Hard to believe that about 30 years ago, there were buildings here, and this place had still had like over a thousand residents!

This road was covered with snow a month ago, and I didn't take the risk...

 

The time-honored tradition of leaving your mark in spray paint is still alive and well!

 

I can't wait until the stupid door is replaced so I can roll my window down all the way again!

 

Beautiful view of what was once downtown Centralia from where I marked the guardrail...

 

My truck's A/C had to be evacuated and disassembled during the frame replacement last November, but it got pretty warm today and I am happy to say that Thompson Toyota did a good job of putting it back together again and getting it fully operational!

My truck and a dead deer; My theory was that hunters skinned the deer and left the remains behind, and my buddy concurred when I texted him pictures of the carcass to get his opinion...

 

My truck did surprisingly well off the beaten path, no doubt due to the 2" lift (more pictures later), though is what resulted in the minor boo-boo on the crossmember...

 

I was afraid of warping my new brake rotors (AGAIN; The first time, the manufacturer replaced them under warranty), so I didn't bother crossing this huge puddle...

 

Now begins the batch of pictures taken with my Nikon D5500!

 

The original "Graffiti Highway" was closed back in the spring of 2020, because people saw visiting Centralia as the perfect social distancing activity, and visited the highway by the hundreds; In an effort to force people to social distance, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania dumped large piles of dirt. In response, visitors to the ghost town created a "Graffiti Street"; Not as grand as the original, but still pretty cool in my opinion!
