Here are a few things I’ve discovered while owning the truck that I find weird. What are yours?
    • The back window has an up/down switch that isn’t automatic. My wife’s 4Runner back window is automatic.
    • The multimedia system lets you select the colour of your truck when it’s displaying it in the camera view. Lunar Rock isn’t an option.
Hoping that I’m missing how this works and someone can tell me that I’m just wrong! :D

When using android auto, the screen flips between day and night mode immediately if I go under a bridge or somewhere dark.

the back window on my 2015 Tundra isn't automatic either. Did they add it to the newer 2.5 gens?

When I go to park my truck sometimes the engine shuts off but is in auto/shut off mode. I have to hit the button to shut the truck off. Sometimes the engine RMP goes to 0 Like it is going shut off but revs back up. If I reverse into my parking spot and put it never does either. it just stays running with no change in RPM or attempt to go in auto/shut off mode

I think when in Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, it bases the day/night mode off the phone. Other vehicles have light sensors in them that turn lights on in dark environments which switches back and forth. When neither of those things are happening, sometimes it’ll assume it’s night time when someone turns their lights on.

Oh yeah, I’ve seen that as well. If you put the truck in park, and it’s able to, it’ll shut the engine off, but it seems like there’s some combination of things that stops it doing that in my experience. I wonder if the truck won’t do auto stop if it’s in reverse? I haven’t tested that.

I thought of another one thanks to person who posted in the new owners thread.
    • If you have a bicycle in the back hanging over the tailgate, sometimes the truck will realise there’s something there and disable all the sensors. It’s weird because you’d think it’d just disable one of them but it disables everything. When you’re driving around, you acknowledge the sensor warning but it just keeps popping up. Sometimes it’ll not realise that there’s a fixed object back there and beep at you constantly that there’s something behind you even though it never gets any closer, it’ll also engage emergency braking.

I don’t like that it does that in park. It was weird the first time it did it to me. Like you said, sometimes it stays off and other times it shuts off and right back on.

That would makes sense that it is using the phone's sensor. The rest of my truck doesn't seem to switch to night mode or turn the auto headlights on right away.

I second this. Mine has done it a few times. Not a problem for me by any means, but it is a quirky thing to have happen.

Also not sure if it belongs in here, but I find the spring loaded cup holder tabs to be very annoying. They work, but they take an unnatural movement to get it in. Feels like I have to tilt the drink on the right angle and wedge it in there. Hard to describe. Maybe others notice it too...or maybe it's just me LOL.

The stop/start system only works in D. If you put it in R or even S, it won’t work…

Just wait for the auto back window switch. Toyota will have a big release commercial like they did for the power seats on the tacoma. Only took them since 1995.

My 2019 4runner wasn't automatic up and down and I know a few other guys that didn't have it. Which can be an unwelcome surprise when it's cracked in the summer time and fills with mosquitoes.

You push the button up to lower the rear view window, and pull it down to raise it..drives me nuts

Intuitively backwards, yes, but I think there's some federal safety law that no power window can close by pushing on the button - in case someone has their head in the opening and the button gets accidentally leaned on.

This is annoying to me. Either the truck wasn’t doing this initially, or I did t notice it, but now it’s almost every time I park. Wife said I was pushing down on brake too hard. I think I’ll keep the AC on defrost setting and see if that prevents the park shutoff.

Seems like this auto start/stop would shorten life of starter?

Why would they have switched it for 22? I'm pretty sure in mine you push it forwards/down to open the window and pull it back/up to close it.

Why not just switch ASS off just before you park?

Most logical solution…thanks. I’m still learning the buttons and features. I’ll turn off ASS when I start the truck, no issue then.

Not exactly on point as mines a 2021, but every time I go by a gun store my truck automatically steers into their parking lot. Weird….

Big difference between a cold and warm start when it comes to wear and tear on the starter.

Plus, vehicles with the auto start crap have a special type of starter and other components to handle the system turning off and on constantly.

I wouldn’t worry about wear and tear.

But the more it cycles the more wear there is. So yes it will get worn out faster the more you use it.
