When we test drove the '22, they tossed us the key fob and said "see you when you get back!". We were gone for well over a hour and took it on the highway, down some gravel range roads, through downtown on the tighest roads we have and brought it home to put it in the driveway. Same deal when we bought The Woman's Corolla from them a few years ago and when they had a 1st Gen Tundra I was eyeballing at the time too. An overnight test drive would be awesome though.

Both Ford and GM here in town won't let you so much as look at a truck without a salesperson holding your hand.

Damn. The first truck I drove was a Silverado RST and he said "how many days you need it for" I just said like 2 hours lol. The first 22 I drove was a red platinum and I got to go down the outer road and back.

Ford 3.5l TTV6 is consistently 2MPG better than the V8's for average MPG. Each of us will have to decide if 2-3MPG better average is worth it for whatever vehicle. The added complexity is a factor for me. GM's complex cylinder deactivation is goofy. I saw a video yesterday where Tim Esterdahl grilled the GM engineer about the 3.0l Duramax diesel. That's a very complex engine also.

I'd love to get superduper MPG's but I'm not seeing it right now. And our old Yota 4.7's and the 5.7l are chugging along fine.

The way I use my truck - loaded (bed and cab) and going up and down hills I don't think the V6 Turbo will be much better whether Ford or Toyota.
    Today I was thinking.
My truck has a 144 liter gas tank and gas went up 10 cents a liter overnight. It will be $2.00 a liter soon.
$288 to fill up from empty which none of us do- I don't think. I fill up from half. My son fills up from empty to half - go figure.
So I was thinking of how many tools and "things" I can buy for $288. Quite a lot.
I was thinking that way right after I borrowed my wife's keys....again...to her Outback (30mpg - 7.5 Liters/100kms) to go into town for some stuff.

In the last video I saw of Tim's he had 4 trucks - Tundra, Ram, Ford, GM and it was about towing. The part of the video that stuck out to me was not that the Ram came last for mileage in towing. His comment was that he always looks forward to getting into the Ram the most now with its 5.7 engine, because it is the most fun to drive because of the V8.

Excellent post. I mean, for me, I might go into the office 1x a week as of right now; and when I do, it's a 30 mile round trip. So I *MIGHT* need 2 fillups a month, maybe a bit more if I need to drive more.

I mean, 2MPG might be nice, but honestly it wouldn't save me much $ at all, especially considering my truck just got paid off. Hard to justify another loan for that.

    stay tuned.

ok, I got to test and take home and garage fit test a white platinum crewmax 4x4.

I like the redesign much more in person than the photos, the front isnt really as bad in person for some reason, the mustache color match and it should be good.

it fits in the garage, I will likely remove the support bracket from the door to gain some margin for error so its not so much of a PITA.

The tundra drives and rides WAY better than my current tundra, it was much more quiet and rode much smoother, this truck had air rear and AVS and I found myself liking the "comfort" setting while just normal driving and especially on the interstate portion of the test, it also seemed to smooth out the shitty side roads around here where my current truck rattles your teeth even with sand in the back. One thing though, as you can see in the pic below, there isnt much room until the bump stop. I went over a railroad crossing and it bottomed out. I told them about that.

I think what's going on is some early QC issue in that this truck sat perfectly level, normally there is a touch of rake. I think the setting on the rear air suspension needs a slit tweak up like others have documented here, that would allow more travel before the bump stop and have just that touch of rake you normally see stock.

The transmission is nice, its smooth and fast, especially for a new truck with only 230 miles on it. I would expect another great aisin Toyota trans, should be good. none of that clunking around like the ford, is didn’t gear hunt as much either especially in sport mode. Pretty good for new and not many miles on it. Part of this may have been that this was a non-hybrid and the Ford was a power boost so they have to integrate those systems. I have no interest in a Toyota hybrid, you just don’t get the nice things you do with the ford.

The power running boards and tailgate step where really nice, worked well and held me fine (6’3” 285). I love the tailgate button on the side of the taillight, prefect for when your hands are full.

I measured my cooler (lifetime made in USA 55 quart) and depth of the new bed and it will still fit fine even with the loss in bed depth vs the 2016 I have.

Apple car play works great wirelessly, no problems at and Toyotas interface is super snappy., huge screen is nice, really sharp. The wireless charging needs work, it constantly drops out for some reason, I tried holding it in place a little but it just doesn’t seem to want to stay connected. I think they have a pretty small area of charging that you really have to have it in the right spot and stay there. I would have to mod this somehow, maybe as simple as a guide on the other side to hold it in place.

The transfer case has really been improved, it shifted into and out of 4 hi much faster and smoother than my current truck, ford was also smooth. Toyota does not have 4wd auto, ford does. I had it in my ram and toyota should offer that but they don’t. Not a deal killer.

Im not a fan of 20” wheels but they rode better than I thought, I liked the grey more than I thought I would and the tires were bridestone HT I think. Not the best but they were super smooth and quiet. I would likely want more of an AT maybe a small notch up in size.

The blue accent lighting is pretty nice, I like that. The interior lighting is really more focused and dimmer than Im used to, its just OK, I can see how people want more, nowhere near the Vleds I have now.

Leather is pretty damn nice again in the platinum, seats are very comfy, no fitment problems at all for me. I did kinda want the steering wheel to go higher up but it was at max height, I tweaked my seat a touch and it was fine.

Now, I certainly see some QC issues, there was too much wind noise in this truck, near the windshield there was some type of howl. The weather stripping is total cheap shit in these trucks, it doesn’t fit right, and looks warped in other places.

Toyota left the interior door area kinda lacking, you see the paint color of the door, and the weather strip all warped and that’s your view from the seat, not ideal.

The fake engine noise is really too much in this truck especially the platinum. that would have to go. I either want a real v8 Borla throat or I want it nice and quiet, that is just weird, it seems totally out of place especially on the most refined trim.

Again, mixed winter driving on winter blend I got 16.7 according to the dash, so nowhere near the Ford, but that was the powerboost as well. I did WOT a time or two to see what she had and there is a touch of turbo lag on the tundra but not too bad, once she’s rolling I think it would dust my v8 tundra I have now. My gut is telling me all things considered likely 3-4 mpg better than I have now, if that.

So in total, I think I liked the tundra better for now, but they have to get the QC issues ironed out before I would buy one I think. They are going to email me a trade in offer, I have no idea what to expect on that.

So Toyota is saying that truck weighs 5975 lb (7285-1310) empty with a full tank of gas. That's 15 lb more than my '21 bone stock.

I'd be curious what that truck weighs on a CAT scale full of fuel.

Ha! I was about to quote your previous post where they were denying you..... "Wait until the dealership realizes $5/gal gas is coming, they'll let you take the truck for longer" seems they got the memo!

ya, close, I think I would have to remove this support bracket from one side of the door, or maybe just the entire thing, that thing sticks out 2-3" so that would allow for some margin of error parking.

ya, you have to pay attention thats for sure, even with what I have now. But Im not going to let parking carefully stop from owning a fullsize truck, I don't want a tacoma, those suck.

its not all the bad once you get used to it, this will be a little tougher though than now.

while not ideal, there really isnt many better options, no way Im parking outside when I have a fully insulated and heated garage, I don't like smaller trucks either, so I just have to work with what I have.

like I said, think I will have to remove that support on the door, that will make it not so bad.

ya they came around. they told me they are not allowed and cant order parts though as far as a color matched flares, rear piece or mustache off the TRD Sport in blueprint.

so I guess I would have to be on my own and talk it over with Roman @ cool springs should I decide to get one of these things.
